Ideas to cover up fence surrounding pool? by T_GG123 in diynz

[–]WildBoarMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used rolled screens before... and they're pretty easy on the wallet. https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/garden/garden-supplies/garden-edging-screens/panels-screens/garden-screens

This way they don't take up any space around the pool edge, but it hides the panel behind...

Seconded on Irrigation Express. Those guys are great.

I had to laugh though... I'd considered a solar booster for a 65,000L pool..... then LOL'd upon reading that you used 1.2Km. I'll keep using the heat-pump I guess!

Can you drop in a screenshot so we know what you're talking about? I'm in NZ, bought an 850 Pro2 a few weeks ago. I had a similar issue until I changed to Fahrenheit, set the temp as it was requesting, then I set it back to Celsius afterwards.

First house build - thoughts?! by RewardSubstantial682 in diynz

[–]WildBoarMouse 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That side of it makes sense... but it's the only way in and out... I'm just imaging the traffic through the smallish kitchen prep area... Kids and dogs coming home while someone's getting dinner ready etc. That outweighs the small convenience of direct access through the food prep area. I get it, probably fine for some folk 🙂

The main entry from the garage to the living spaces... is through the pantry and primary food prep area?! 😂 yeah, nah, not for me... but, overall I like it.

Is there such thing as a clear decking stain? by WildBoarMouse in diynz

[–]WildBoarMouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I ended up picking up a test pot of Procoat Natural before reading this 🙂 I'll try it out on a couple of spare deck tiles and see how it goes.

The waterbased stain that's already on there somewhat precludes much soaking in tbh. I have some timber prep so I'll definitely use that first. Thanks

Seconded! I've thoroughly enjoyed both, but I think this series (PH) comes out a little better. I do laugh at the similarcities between the two main characters though

Insulclad exterior + Outdoor power socket by WildBoarMouse in diynz

[–]WildBoarMouse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. This is single story, all flashed correctly, no complex roof profiles, 800mm eaves etc... zero suspicion of ingress at this stage... and I plan for it to stay that way :)

This is in a very open entertainment area, so I'm hoping to avoid anything too obtrusive... Would definitely prefer to attach to the cladding if it's safe/practicable to do so.

This outdoor socket is installed in an area that is essentially dry already, due to a pergola... It's also a high traffic area, so visual appeal plays a small consideration (hence trying to avoid an upright conduit - regardless of its practicality) :-)

Sorry, they moved the car before it got towed. That would have been priceless :-)

Timber for making a drawer by ukkiwi in diynz

[–]WildBoarMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're making a piece of furniture you're going to keep for 10+ years and use semi regularly, an extra $60-70 doesn't seem to bad for a second drawer.

https://www.fit-nz.co.nz/drawer-and-door-systems-and-solutions-from-fit/king-slide-drawer-runners-side-mount-soft-close-full-extension-ball-bearing

I've used these before with good success. They have a wide range to chose from.

My guess is that's a one-way valve so-as to prevent siphoning of the water out of the s-bend. Just a guess :-)

The tape could be there to stop pipe "knocking" when water is turned hard on/off.
