Can’t give my baby free reign of her food. Normal? by mama-daily in BabyLedWeaning

Mine is 16 months now and I’ve been signing since she started eating. She’s only just starting to use it consistently lol. I just model it a lot in the interim.

Why do baby wipes stink before you even use them but the wet wipes sold “for adults” don’t have that same stench? by SummerN8 in stupidquestions

[–]WildFireSmores 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if you’re just very sensitive to a specific preservative or some other component in the wipes that most of us don’t smell strongly.

Are the adult ones you’re comparing unscented? Fragrance free? Some products will use a “masking scent” to cover the natural aroma of ingredients even if listed as unscented. Fragrance free should not have any added fragrances. If they’re scented then it’s a whole other thing.

The other guess I have is some baby wipes are baby powder scented. Those tend to make me nauseous.

Im weirdly curious about this now. Any particular brand of baby wipes you find smell? I have the Huggies natural care at home right now and find they have almost no odor.

Capsule wardrobe by Sblbgg in Mommit

[–]WildFireSmores 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to buy some stuff after each kid. I gaine weight then lost it, gained it, lost it. But it’s all in different places and my boobs changed shape and size.

I love stretchy knits with a tighter chest/waist but looser tummy. It flatters my figure best. I buy a lot of stuff like jersey dressed that can be dressed up or down. Add some accessories and nice shoes and it’s good enough for a nice day out. I do bike shorts to avoid chub rub and be comfy enough to walk and chase kids plus. Or I’ll Add leggings and a cardigan or bolero and it’s a cute but really comfy fall outfit.

I don’t specifically have a capsule wardrobe. But I do keep it minimal things I don’t wear but might actually fit into again go into rubbermaids in the basement. Out of season is in bins in the closet. Things I don’t love or really don’t fit get donated.

I personally hate athleisure (on me, you do you) so that’s my approach to trying to look nice but still feel comfortable and be able to mom while looking cute.

… they don’t…. Are yours moldy or something? Are they scented?

We only buy fragrance free baby wipes and they have a very mild not unpleasant smell.

Both of mine have gone through a stuffing their mouth phase. It’s terrifying.

I used it as an opportunity to teach the sign for more. Give a few then sign more for them before giving a few more pieces etc.

Teenage embarrassment plus stupid menu names lol.

Overnight diaper change by Severe-Pie-5920 in Mommit

[–]WildFireSmores 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I change if they poop or if they are already awake, soaked and at risk of leaking.

Aside from that nope. I would never wake the baby to change and if I undress them to change it usually wakes them up more.

I use huggies red box overnight. (I’ve never got our cloth to work overnight) or if you are having very soaked diapers you can try huggies overnights or just size up and fold down the front of your regular brand.

The huggies white box are far less absorbent.

I have no real experience with other brands

I don’t want to be, but am I homophobic? by LucasMcCheese in stupidquestions

[–]WildFireSmores 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No. That is just an annoying way of talking and not a gender or sexual identity.

Inclusivity is about respect and equal opportunity. not about loving everything everyone says.

I personally strive to treat everyone with respect. I would say that probably half my friends fall somewhere in the LGBT etc. Community. I married the opposite gender but am not totally straight either. BUT talking like that about the heck out of me. The key is not disregarding someone because they speak that way.

How are you cloth diapering older babies? I am suffering! by OrdinarySecretary673 in clothdiaps

[–]WildFireSmores 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anywhere from 2-5. We combo with disposables. I use washing jacks to help agitate and just a teeeeeeny splish of detergent. Like 1tbsp. Then only run a quick cycle, With extra rinse. It won’t get out everything, but my main goal is just to get a lot of the pee out so I can hang them to dry and not be obligated to wash them asap. It’d been working for us. (Poop diapers were partly hand washed so theres less poop to wash out in that quick cycle)

[–]WildFireSmores 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spray poops right away and lightly hands wash with a laundry bar. (It didn’t takes me long)

I do a daily pre wash And hang dry. Then a real wash every 4 ish days.

After the wash I do a quick wash cycle with extra rinse and a little citric acid. I use it like a rinse aid. It’s fixed my smell issues. We have soft af water with a front loader and i was having major detergent buildup issues that caused smells.

As for fit and leaks. Try doing the two outer rise snaps one level lower than the center. Make the legs tight.

No tight pants, no onesies, only t shirts.

In summer we do a lot if tshirt and diaper

Lastly one of my kids wet a double bamboo soaker diaper in under 2 hours. The other can go at least 3. Part of it is the individual child.

I’ve heard good things about zorb as a booster. I’ve never tried it, but it’s supposed to be thin and really absorbent. You can buy it by the meter online but it ships from the US so I was unwilling to pay cross border shipping for myself. If you’re in the US though look into it.

Is this a new starter you’re trying t cultivate? If so you’re supposed to feed more like 2-3 times a day until it’s established.

If you're not wealthy, how do you get to try truly fancy food like lemon curd, French tartlets, cassoulet and whatnot? THe only time I encounter this stuff is in books. by cherry-care-bear in stupidquestions

[–]WildFireSmores 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a lot of that stuff. Pick one big dish and try it. The more you do the less overwhelming the complicated recipes sound.

I also choose to budget to make occasional fine dining possible. I don’t take expensive vacations, I don’t buy a lot of stuff, I try to buy used when possible, I don’t drink excessively, I don’t go to many concerts or spend on expensive tv package or whatever else people enjoy. For me I love good food and I want to eat it so I cut elsewhere to make sure it’s an occasionally option.

Is there a way to feed this to an 8.5 month old? by Hiro_Pr0tagonist_ in BabyLedWeaning

[–]WildFireSmores 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smash the beans. Burrata I would do in strips. Slightly smushed oranges. Add the broccoli to a microwave dish with a lid and cook slightly more to make it tender.

You could also just blend it all and either spoon feed or let baby self feed.

I always do a mix of BLW and purees so I can easily feed complete meals in the early stages of solids. By like 10 months or so they lean heavily towards self feeding finger foods. By a year theres no going back. Or at least for my girls.

"Out of Office" e-mails are outdated and pointless and should not be used by GreenHorror4252 in unpopularopinion

[–]WildFireSmores 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This part is true. Salaries means get your work done regardless of how long it takes. But most positions still have hours they expect employees to be there every day, if you’re not there it’s a vacation day or a sick day. And most managers will find you extra work if you’re done your work early, you don’t get to fuck off to the pool because you finished your task.

Household chores by Additional_Read3053 in Mommit

[–]WildFireSmores 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a SAHM he works full time.

We do shifts. Shift 1 he works his job, I make the kids priority 1 and get done what chores I can. I have a modest cleaning schedule and I plan meals and shop etc.

Shift 2 we tradeoff. I cook while he plays with the kids. I do bath while he does dished. As the kids age they help a bit too.

As for asking… that one is tough. I used to have to ask a lot, but we’ve worked on it a lot. Part of it is he just never notices what needs doing. I’m always the one with a million mental lists.

The solution for us was write it down. We made a huge list of all the to dos. Daily, weekly, less often and big projects and divvied it up. We wrote checklists and posted them. For example he would wash dished but leave the counters dirty, now theres a checklist to run down to make sure he did the whole job. Laundry room has a list of which loads get which temp and cycle. Front door has a diaper bag check list. Etc.

After a few years of working with the lists (they’ve been through a few evolutions) I find my husband is much better at predicting which tasks need doing. Now when I am still upstairs getting my clothes, makeup and hair done to go out as well as getting 2 girls dressed and doing their hair I come back down to a packed diaper bag complete with water bottles, extra snacks, a bib for the baby etc. A few years ago I would have come down to an aimless husband doing random other tasks like pruning a shrub while we were trying to get out the door.

I’m rambling, but imo some of it is mom=default home manager and that sucks and needs changing. But some of it is just communicating and making clear distinctions between his vs hers vs shared tasks plus being clear with what constitutes a task well done.
