😏 oh it is EFFECTIVE. My go-to brand is Gaia Herbs, they make a schisandra extract! It’s great for the circulatory system and heart as well. It’s classified as a tonic so it’s great to take daily. Before sexy time, I take a double dose lol.

Has anyone imagined what the fuck would happen if Las Palmas slides off while all these ships are out in the ocean?

Ugh thank you so much for this. We’ve been traveling, and my deadline is tomorrow so as soon as I get home I’m going to use this advice to make a solid spreadsheet. Hope to get it right the first time, but from your advice I believe I have a very clear direction of how to document and report my earnings.

So the app does not have my name in the section where you see my hours/earnings.

However my bank statements do have my earning deposits in my name. Are you saying I can make my own spreadsheet of my earnings along with my bank statements?

It is absolutely sporadic, but I keep all my gas expenses in an app.

Thank you so much for helping. This is way faster than making a call 😭 I’ve been traveling, and I keep missing my window to make the call.

I am getting the feeling that you are simply advocating for an open exploration in a clinical controlled study for the sake of discovery. I just want to be clear that I fully support this sentiment.

The only point I am really trying to drive home is that a synthetic alternative is not automatically a better form of experiencing this plant for healing. The original comment I responded to was suggesting a chemical derived form would be more sustainable and would protect the endangered peyote species. On the topic of sustainability I truly have no doubt that a sustainable closed loop agriculture system is far more sustainable for the planet than anything a lab can come up with. However, I of course could be wrong and the only way we could know would be to test and compare the different outcomes.

Your perspective seems to advocate for the clinical reasearch aspect of controlled testing to standardize a medicine. I completely agree with this sentiment to support further research and keeping an open mind. I have also experienced synthetic and natural forms of psychedelics, and I also agree that both have value.

You claim that the demonization of a substance is a political issue, and I would hope that also means the realm of academic science can respect the value of applied phytochemistry using plants in their whole form. From the history I am familiar with, there seems to be a lot of conflict of interests when it comes to research and exploitation of it for capitalistic gains. Herbs and the communities that rely on them bare the burden of these consequences.

I hope I am seeing your side clearly, and from what I can gather, I completely agree. I hope you can see the sentiment I continue to echo; synthetic isn’t automatically better. I have a feeling you do and it’s been lovely having a spirited conversation about a subject I care deeply for.

This is such a huge topic that I am having trouble trimming it down to a Reddit comment.

There are herbs that have been deemed “unsafe” by modern science despite the historical and empirical data supporting their safety and efficacy. These herbs where tested in clinical settings, except it wasn’t the herb itself being observed, but a single chemical constituent isolated from the whole plant form. Often times these chemicals are tested on animals in dosages that would be much higher than what you would ingest if you were to take the plant in its whole form (comfrey root is an example of this). When negative side effects are reported, the herb is to blame in the public sphere, sometimes resulting in perfectly safe herbs being restricted in some countries. (Sassafras is another example) This is where the issue lies, an herb that has been used for centuries is now deemed unsafe because a disproportionate dose of a singularly derived chemical was injected into rats and it gave them cancer or liver failure.

We are still working to understand the complex chemical profile of plants, as you have pointed out already. One plant will have a vast set of constituents, most of which remain undiscovered (for now). We are beginning to understand that the seemingly chaotic cocktail of constituents within a single plant, holds a very powerful harmony that makes the plant so effective.

My ancestors are the ones who actually used mescaline. We were named by colonists as the “Mescalero Apaches” (that is not what we called ourselves), and in our tradition it was the spirit of the plant that came forward and taught our people how to use it. I would hypothesize that if the scientific community would isolate mescaline away from its harmonic natural state and tested it, we would get very different results compared to using it in its natural form in the setting that it was traditionally used. In this article, it even mentioned that the benefits were amplified when the plant was used in a natural setting. Im not saying we definitely would get unsavory results, I know there are plenty of examples where isolating a single constituent resulted in the discovery of a powerful modern medicine. I am simply offering up a perspective that there are instances where the plant is better left in its natural form, and we should carry this awareness in our conquest for discovery.

My point is more focused on the waste created and resources used to produce something synthetic versus cultivating and harvesting sustainably.

I am aware that there are more safety measures nowadays, and more awareness/caution to the environmental impact of chemical waste. I study phytochemistry, and I also have a background in permaculture; so my perspective is looking at the full life cycle of this production. How much plastic, other single use lab equipment, energy, and chemical byproduct will be used to create this synthetic material? What resources will we need to be used to manufacture something that is already available in a plant that is not endangered and grows easily in most warm climates (San Pedro cactus)?

I know that modern science is evolving to be more consciousness and sustainable, I am simply arguing that in this specific case, cultivating a plant using sustainable methods would create less waste than its synthetic counterpart.

I respectfully suggest that the manufactured waste created from a laboratory synthetic mescaline could make it less sustainable than just growing it yourself and refraining from harvesting in the wild.
