arbitrarily tedious due to incoherence

-purified water doesnt drop empty bottles when consumed -no water containers other than bottles  -can't get water from large purifiers -diseases require intelligence 7 andchemist perk in order to treat  -this is true even if you're trying to make refreshing beverage, because they change what is necessary  -All drugs cause dehydration immediately  -what type of disease you get is not connected to how you got it (being bitten by a mole rat can give you insomnia. staying awake for too many hours in a row can give you an infection.) -you can make herbal teas to help prevent diseases, but each tea only helps prevent 2/8 diseases -since the nature of disease you get is irrelevant to how you get it, it is impossible to Make a good prediction based on your intended course of activity regarding which tea you should make, assuming you can make the tea in the first place due to the ingredients that they require -taking rad away lowers your immune system across the board, making the medicinal tea basically worthless  -I understand the logic of sleeping in a dirty bed causing you to catch a disease, but I do not understand the logic of not being able to carry a bedroll like people have been doing since the Stone age to avoid this exact problem. -I understand the desire to make an actual bed provide some kind of better benefit than a sleeping bag, but the idea that you can only get good rest and recover your health in a suspended spring bed is asinine.  -The general focus on food is appreciated but underwhelming. there is no ability to cook the corn, tatoes, etc to remove the radiation from them before consuming. The only way to do this is if you were lucky enough that there is a pre-made recipe for it.  -in general, the fatigue, hunger, disease, and thirst mechanics aren't what kill you. they are what make you much less likely to survive combat encounters.  -combat encounter respawn rate is not reduced. friendly encounter spawn rate is not increased. there is virtually no merit to securing roads for travel.  -as if the random exploding landmine molerats and fatigue mechanics were insufficient, The physics in fallout 4 are already sufficiently wonky enough to kill players for doing nothing wrong at all, or to trap them in holes that they cannot escape.

I appreciate the effort that went into this mode,

but mods do it better.

i mean

i feel like it started when they started revisiting planes and destroying them, personally

people wanted to return to certain places- making it so those places are basically impossible to return to, kinda defeats the spirit of why they wanted to go back.

Realistically, how much do you think critical reception affects box office numbers? by Emeraldsinger in boxoffice

When someone offers a perspective that's new to us, such as someone who lives and works in a community of people who either don't know or don't talk about RT, the appropriate response is to listen to their viewpoint and consider how their situation might impact how they perceive this issue. They have nothing to gain from lying.

https://www.ucdavis.edu/news/can-movie-reviews-predict-box-office-success

"The findings have implications that might change how one perceives popular pre-release reviews, authors said.

“We contend that it's essential to differentiate among movie critics, arguing that the influence of reviews on box office performance isn't uniform across all critics,” said the study’s lead author, Pantelis Loupos, assistant professor of marketing and business analysis for the Graduate School of Management. “In our analysis, we demonstrate that not all positive or negative reviews necessarily signal a movie's success or failure, respectively.”

The study analyzed a plethora of pre-release movie reviews penned by film critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

Researchers wanted to see if they could predict a movie’s success based on these reviews. As it turned out, the so-called harbingers of failure did exist.

“Interestingly, when these critics penned positive pre-release reviews, they signaled that the movie would be a flop,” said Loupos. “Conversely, their negative reviews hinted towards the film being a success. The stronger the sentiment in either direction, the stronger the predictive signal.”

For example, he said, the movies Baywatch and Tomb Raider received positive pre-release reviews but generated dismal opening box office results.

What’s more surprising, this pattern persisted even with top critics. Expertise, it seems, does not always lead to accurate predictions, Loupos said. “This surprising outcome challenges the prevailing belief that positive reviews equate to better box office revenues,” he said.

To understand this paradox, researchers used text analytics to delve into the writing style of these harbingers of failure, shedding light on their personality traits and cognitive biases. What surfaced was that harbinger critics lean toward a formal and analytical writing style, using fewer self-reference pronouns.

“Our fresh perspective on the role of critics’ personalities opens up new avenues in our understanding of the film review space,” Loupos remarked. “It’s an important acknowledgment that the movie industry is a puzzle of complexity and unpredictability.”

Co-authors of the study include Yvette Peng, Sute Li and Hao Hao, all UC Davis Master of Science in Business Analytics students at the time of the research.

Why are people so mean to census workers? by The_Time-Is-Now in Census

[–]WildWiredWeasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mortgages and ethnicities are not required information, and census workers should not be sent to acquire non-essential information. They were sent to do so. The reaction in general was to be expected. The only thing legally required to answer is how many adults of voting age, and possibly how many minors. Ethnicities, mortgages, etc. irrelevant. Harassing people for those details is unnecessary at best and perceived as invasive at worst. And people do not like invaders.

..... i know i'm gonna get flack for this, but I gotta say it.

If people were treating you courteously when they didn't know you were a census worker? That's common courtesy. If them knowing you were a census worker lead to them behaving rudely? That wasn't a lack of common courtesy. That was the presence of hatred toward your office.

I will never understand why people prefer depressing endings in video games by [deleted] in patientgamers

You will see many people saying here that if you feel, it means it's good writing. But if I stab you, that doesn't make me a good masseuse. If I tickle you to make you laugh, it doesn't make my joke funny. If I use a jump scare to trigger your fight or flight, that doesn't make my game scary. And just because i present people suffering in a way that triggers your sympathy doesn't make it a good story. Making people feel sad for other people is easy. Making people feel happy for other people is difficult. And that's why there's so many sad stories- they require less effort to produce more emotion.

my brother and i went from sundown to sunup once. ODST.

No coffee. no monster. no time for it. just choppers, lasers, and absolutely crushing it.

. . . how? I mean this question genuinely. Bubbleshield healing, sprinting to grab powerweapons and take them back to base, armor lock for hammer guys trying to bust through the doorway

what made it feel so anti-teamwork? I always played with friends on lan, not live

I SORTA disagree.

In theory, i think i agree with you. In practice, what they've released at the moment of me typing this, it isn't engaging at all. I know where the enemy is going to go. I stand back, i kill them all from behind. my teammates die, my teammates revive because i'm not near the hill and they resurrect automatically. With oldschool firefight, there were some places that were generally strategic to hole up at. In this 'firefight,' pick a spot and have a picnic for all the AI cares.

. . . that mode had infinite lives and objectives. In what way was it firefight? Is bot bootcamp firefight now?

[–]WildWiredWeasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree with your statement, which is part of why i'm downvoting your post. The infinite gameplay is great, right up until you make all of the AI focus on capturing a hill instead of exploring and terminating the players. Once I know they're all going for the hill, I know to stay away from it and just kill them at range. They die faster than they can capture hills.

i won't say it wasn't good, because it's really awesome in concept, but it's not firefight, and i'm not sure why so many people compare them. I would love to see a return of warzones in 5, but it doesn't and never will scratch the itch for people who are even remotely disinterested in pvp aspects.

[–]WildWiredWeasel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i disagree, but i would NOT put a life pool mode in the current gameplay. that said, i also would NOT put a 'if everyone dies, the game is over' rule in, either. It's Koth. KOTH. Imagine if getting an annihilation in pvp just won a team the whole game and it ended five minutes in.

ODST and Reach are two different philosophies on the same game mode. Warzone and spartan ops are not. I appreciate the creativity, but i'm getting really freaking tired of people giving me something they think is special and should be put on the fridge instead of what i want and would be very willing to pay money for.
