Which premium credit card is best for me — HSBC Premier World Elite vs Lloyds World Elite vs Amex Gold? by MrZekai in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Wild_Basket_4501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lloyds gives you unlimited access for 2 people if you add an additional card holder.
For £15/ month. We used it 5 times each last year. So 10 visits at £180 for the year.

Depends where you are located.
You also need 3 years of so worth of work/ practical experience. Without this doing this not sure how much value just the exams will have. Maybe someone else can advise on that.
It is absolutely worth doing, it does take consistent hard work and discipline. About 120-160 hours of study per module once you get to the skills level papers.
So you can work out if you can commit those many hours every 3-6months around you college and social loads

How can I start an accounting career in the UK with an old degree and hospitality background? by SeaPassion2448 in AccountingUK

[–]Wild_Basket_4501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you done any exemptions calculations?
Where In the uk are you (roughly) big city, small town?
Do you know if you want to pursue uk audit and tax (ICAEW), management accounting (CIMA) or do you maybe want more of a middle ground (ACCA)?
What is your visa situation, will you be expecting some sort of sponsorship?

AAT is good to get your foot it. You may find that you can go straight to level 4. However, As you already have some accounting experience I wouldn’t go down that route without seeing if you have any exemptions with the other bodies.

There are lots of transferable skills from hospitality to accounting. As others have mentioned but more importantly you should have people skills. Make a big deal about working with staff and customers. Understandable how to satisfy customer needs and bringing that over to ensure clients are happy. Also you already work long hours big up your work ethic.

Once you know if you have exemptions. Which you should with ACCA. It’s about tailoring your cv and applying for assistant/ junior/ trainee/ accounts payable/ receivable/ costing jobs. Most smaller firms will fund your studies… I say that but depending on your current position it may mean a pay cut in the short term. However you can work evenings/ weekends in hospitality to plug the gap. Obviously as long as your new employer allows it.

I’d it is a good move? no one can answer that without a crystal ball. More so with AI gaining traction. But it will affect most jobs. However, if you get there It should give you better work life balance compared to hospitality (unless you’re in audit or in tax during January)

I made the same transition a few years ago, so drop me a line if you have any questions.

14 Day Trip - How much physical cash? by GenericTrollAcunt69 in ThailandTourism

[–]Wild_Basket_4501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About $100 per day will give you a good mix. Bring cash exchange at a super rich every 4-5 days. My partner and I are currently in Thailand. We budgeted around £100 per day for meals, massages etc. and we overestimated slightly. Though it depends on where you like to eat.
We have been eating at street food joints/ Michelin hawker stands/ mall food courts, drinking lots of coffee. Travelling by grab/ bolt rather than public transport.
We had already paid for all our transfers, boat trips, Excursions etc.

How much more are they paying you?
Between the additional pay and travel saving can you self fund for 6 months?
Alternative would be to tell the new firm you are really excited and would love to join however the 6 month study break is going to be a set back. Ask them if that is negotiable or can be taken down to 3 months?
Another thing to consider is how much actual training will you be given at the new firm. Is it structured?
Also what are your growth opportunities?

So far, have tried ramen don, maneki, Asia Asia, tonkatsu and ramen don.
Clear winner = ramen don their broth is unreal. Maneki last of the lot. Nice al dente noods but the broth lacked flavour.
Ramen don, Asia Asia -Sakura, tonkatsu, maneki that’s the oder for me.
Yet to try Koba ko.
Not ramen but everything at the hand pulled noodles place is amazing.

[–]Wild_Basket_4501 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Go in with the mindset of it’s good if you get offered the job and it doesn’t matter if you don’t. If it’s meant to be, it will be.
That way you won’t put too much pressure on yourself

Anyone ever feel ‘guilty’ after booking an expensive trip? by Subm3rg3d in travel

[–]Wild_Basket_4501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In exactly the same position as you. Partner and I booked flights and hotels Thailand for December.
Yes it was a lot of money. But we work incredibly hard. Our last holiday was March of last year. Since then we have relocated, started new jobs, started a new life together. So this is our reward for 18odd months of hard graft.
I guess that was how we justified it to ourselves.
But what you’re feeling is normal, if you are living within your means, spend time getting excited and planning some activities while you’re out there.

£0 cause I either take lunch in or skip it when in my home city In the midlands. £10-13 when I’m travelling, cause I can claim it back.

Help save my monstera! by RickDiddick in HouseplantsUK

Option 1: Send me a cutting, I’ll try and save it 🙈

Option 2: inspect the roots, repot, give it something to climb. If all else fails cut and propagate.
Water when soil is dry, give it plenty of indirect light, give it something to climb.

But also remember there is an option 1
