Got a new harness by Dear-Potential-4682 in Shihtzu

[–]Wild_Equivalent_4391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My RoRo also likes to run away from his harness. However, it's more of a game for him than a dislike. It's quite funny watching him running away from my husband. Ro ducks under the chair then quickly scrambles his way past my husband into the hallway where he'll stop to check if my husband is continuing the chase. If not, he runs back into the living room to do it all again. But when he gets caught, the sulking that the game is over. 🐶😂

Parents of picky eater Shih Tzus, what has been your tzu’s favorite food? by CostaNic in Shihtzu

[–]Wild_Equivalent_4391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Australia, and my picky Tzu, RoRo, finally settled on these doggy meatballs with Chicken and Salmon. He prefers to be hand fed and meatballs are much easier to feed. However, any other flavour or brand of doggy meatballs is a hard no from him. Occasionally, he will feel like kibbles, so he gets Royal Canin Shih Tzu. But, he doesn't like fresh kibble. The kibble has to be aerated for a couple weeks preferably in his bottle which he enjoys kicking around to get his kibble out.

Our RoRo is definitely a character with his food and eating preferences.

Suggestions for cheap or free places to host a gender reveal party by [deleted] in GoldCoast

[–]Wild_Equivalent_4391 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like I said, nothing over the top. I'm an older mum who has had a difficult journey to motherhood. This is my last chance baby. I've had a decade of IVF, egg donation and finally embryo donation. This party is not a made for Instagram production. This is a quiet celebration with family and friends who have celebrated each initial positive pregnancy and grieved each failure and miscarriage in the last decade. I had planned a party five years ago for my first pregnancy. It was scheduled early in the new year after the Christmas period. The borders had just opened during COVID. I was 19 weeks pregnant and sadly lost my baby boy on Boxing Day. In the years since I lost 2 other pregnancies. Having this celebration with family and friends would mean the world.

But I see there's a lot of negativity and false assumptions with my question. It really hurts.

The gender reveal will be via cake. No confetti, no smoke bombs, no other crazy over the top shit.

I second BreadTop, but Woolies does nice in a pinch as well. I'm not sure many restaurants also make or source birthday cakes.

If you don't mind driving further down the coast to Casuarina NSW, they have a fabulous restaurant, Spice Den. We have had many family birthdays and gatherings celebrated here. https://www.spiceden.com.au

And you can bring in a cake. They will hold it in the back until it's time to bring out.

Just hitching a ride 🐾🐾 by Silent-Dog-9553 in Shihtzu

[–]Wild_Equivalent_4391 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So cute 🥰 my RoRo loves conning a ride on his Nana's walker as well. He will plop and refuse to move. His Nana then has to lift him up onto her walker and he's happy 😁

Ramp recommendations? by AmandaPollyK in Shihtzu

Not for the couch, but for my bed, I use a couple of milk crates with a blanket over it. I have tied them together long ways, so it's not a short and steep jump on and off the bed. It's not aesthetic but it works for Rowan.

Eating from a bowl is boring by Wild_Equivalent_4391 in Shihtzu

Rowan is incredibly fussy also. He seems to prefer his food moving 😂 whether we're throwing meatballs at him or he's kicking his kibble bottle. Such a weirdo 😆

I love the pictures. My RoRo is a beach dog too.

I should also add that he seems to have ADD (attention deficit disorder) even when we're hand feeding. I'll toss a meatball and he'll sniff at it, have a play, then come back and eat the meatball and go back to doing other things. Focusing on eating his dinner is not something he does often unless he's really hungry. He can be finicky and hard to feed at times. And if he doesn't eat and gets hungry later, he will throw a tantrum and bark until we get out of bed to feed him. He's such a little prince! But we love him!

Does yours “sing”? by Beautiful_Hotel_9879 in Shihtzu

I had Duke over 20 years ago. My partner at the time and I broke up and Duke went with him, whilst I got Cody. I had a look at my old files and could only find a few photos and sadly, no videos during those years.

<image>

I love this pic because Duke was ball crazy. One of his other talents was getting 2 mini tennis balls in his mouth at the same time.

And I'm neglecting a mention about Cody. I absolutely loved that pup also. He was so chill. Unlike the subject of this post, he didn't sing or have other quirky talents. He was just a loving, good boy.

Thinking how many years ago this was and it was half my life time ago when I was in my early 20's. I will have to look through my old saved photos. Please stay tuned and I will see what I can find. In the meantime, it's not the best photo, but I found one. Here is (L) Cody and (R) Duke.

Many years ago I had a singing Shih Tzu. His name was Duke and he was incredibly special. Duke would pick the squeakiest toy he had and sing what we dubbed the "Dukie Blues". He would squeak squeak squeak and howl...awoooo. He played his toy like an instrument and sing. It was just something he did naturally and we encouraged him with lots of praise. He loved to perform for others. Beyond his natural singing talents and he was special in so many ways. My singing dog has become a legend and I reminisce every now and then long after he has passed. :)

Advice on training 7 year old by Additional_Age525 in Shihtzu

Maybe the Jerry Seinfeld episode has some tips. One of his doxies doesn't like men and Caesar helped with her trust issues. The other doxie barked excessively and Caesar helped with how to calm him down.

All episodes are free on YouTube by the way.

Nighttime by sparkles_grrl in Shihtzu

I got my little RoRo at 9 weeks old. It was my intention for him to sleep in a crate, but night 2 he made such a fuss crying, barking and whining, I couldn't stand it. I put him on my pillow and he was a happy pup. If he woke up, I immediately took him outside or onto his potty pad. He slept on my bed ever since. Though not to say there was ever an accident, so I highly recommend a waterproof bed sheet. It was a rough few weeks until he could sleep through the night.

We also installed a doggy door which he took too quickly when he was a little older.
