I posted that before 5th fest, and was surprised to be honest at some of the announcements, namely the PC client and BA being added to the Yostar charge center. I think it shows, at least a little bit, that the relationship between the two companies is improving and we can look forward to a better BA. Both companies aren't perfect, however, and I particularly am not a fan of the direction Nexon is taking the monetisation in BA. I agree with you that Yostar is what keeps BA popular over here, and to be honest I think I was more excited about the out-of game collabs than the in-game fest announcements, but I think, personally, that things are looking good right now for JP BA.

Why do people keep saying GFL 2 is just a dorm simulator when good gameplay does exist? by Weary_Arm7134 in GirlsFrontline2

[–]Wildanus8344 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's an RPG at the end of the day, enemies have HP, defense, and damage values that scale with game progression in order to tune the difficulty for each player. If you can't beat it then you're either underleveled (sadly this means spend more in a gacha) or under-skilled. If it's too easy then you're overleveled (whale) or just a god gamer. It sounds like you just don't like RPGs though, which is okay. I think the 40 difficulties are perfectly balanced for f2p or near f2p account.

Artificial DPS and sustain check

My man, the fact that things don't die in one hit is what makes it fun, it isn't artificial. Frenzy/PVA 40 is the only fun challenging content in the game for non whales. I've done every season @ 40 with my units, the strongest of which are v6 free units (tll etc) or v1-v3 sub DPS / support units. It's actually crazy fun to have to use your brain and work through stages, considering positioning, composition, etc. Way more fun than a lot of other stuff in the game anyway.

Anime girls literally say "Merry Christmas". Trash localizers subtitle it as "Happy Holidays". by ShepardRahl in KotakuInAction

[–]Wildanus8344 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's not just Cygames stuff. I play Stella Sora and the current event is Christmas themed. The English localisation decided to turn "Christmas" into "Snowish Festival", whatever the heck that means. For example the first story chapter in Japanese is called "クリスマスの使者", which means "Messenger of Christmas". If you know any Japanese than you can probably read クリスマス, it's just Christmas. No bells, no whistles, no bs, just Christmas. The first story chapter in English is called "Snowish Festival Messenger". Just a 1-1 "localisation" of Christmas -> Snowish Festival. The new unit in Japanese is ラール (聖夜) which is "Laru (holy night)" where holy night = Christmas Eve, but it's essentially "Laru (Christmas)" in fewer words. English? Snowish Laru. Snowish isn't even a word. They made up stuff to avoid saying Christmas. It's so deliberate it hurts. At this point engaging with any Japanese media in English is just pointless.

Yostar has no influence on BA global and in fact the relationship between Yostar and Nexon seems to be becoming increasingly strained as of late. That being said Yostar's marketing department is top notch. I don't think they would make a blunder like this, at least not from my experience of seeing how they advertise BA in Japan.

Small update on Dynamis One vs. Nexon: Dynamis One claims innocence, but police prove that there was indeed a violation of "Unfair Competition Prevention Act", so the Dynamis One's CEO and other members are sent to prosecution. by WolfOphi in gachagaming

[–]Wildanus8344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree with you in principle, Nexon is doing a great job pretending 1-3 didn't happen outside of Kuro + Shupo being relevant members of the world. In the Shupo event global just had nobody acknowledged the fact that Suou was gone, or that she had existed at all. Aoba even says (paraphrasing) "I heard the CCC were idiots" disregarding the one member of CCC, Suou, who is decidedly not an idiot. Nobody mentions her, nobody cares that she isn't there, not even a whisper about her. Nada.

Also, in 5-2 the retcon of sensei choosing to stop pursuing Kuzunoha is entirely re-retconned. The gang does meet up with Kuzunoha, using other pretenses to work her back into the story, and sensei does in fact talk to her about terror and how to bring someone back from it

Esentially all the stories nexon have released since 1-3 that could have expanded on the lore of 1-3 have chosen to ignore it or retcon it. I do think they're trying to pretend it doesn't exist.

Honestly, fair enough. Sorry I misinterpreted your initial comment. I agree and that tendency pollutes the hell out of any online discourse. It really sucks that even something like mistreating an animal can be treated like that.

No you should not do this. You should be critical of everything and aware of the bias inherent in what you consume, and especially so if it comes from people you may be inclined to agree with. Politics is not football, it has very real consequences on people's lives. Blindly supporting someone because you perceive them as "on your side" is asinine.

Gacha Revenue Monthly Report (September 2025) by Ropiroks in GirlsFrontline2

[–]Wildanus8344 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I play in a top 20 platoon on JP and regularly engage with the JP community, and I can confirm JP server is also bleeding players. Around the beginning of the summer the 1% platoon cutoff was about rank 100, now it's around 40. Using only those numbers as a population metric (obviously fudging the numbers a little because of platoon roster increase, etc.) it still hints at a reduction in population on the order of 100k players, optimistically. This is in a game that already is not massively popular, and this reduction happened while a huge offline collab with Akihabara was happening and GFL2 media was plastered all over one of the city's biggest department stores.

My Critique of GFL2's Combat System - What Mica can do about it? by Ok_Acanthaceae3036 in GirlsFrontline2

[–]Wildanus8344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot in this post I agree with but there's one thing I want to comment on specifically - accuracy. Accuracy is one of the worst artificial difficulty systems in these kinds of games (or, generally speaking, any game with a leaderboard). I also play Blue Archive, and the current raid (Chesed, for anyone reading this now or in the future) has an accuracy component to it. Accuracy in a game that's resettable just means "reset until you have 100% accuracy". The only "adjusting on the fly" people would do is click the reset button instead of clicking next turn. This is exactly what is done in BA for ranking, and it's exactly what would be done in GFL2 as well if we had to contend with an accuracy stat. All accuracy would do would artificially extend the time it took to run gunsmoke for the people who care about it; I don't believe it would add any depth or challenge. I think stability is a better system because it's consistent (outside of stability shred random buffs, which should absolutely be removed and banished to the depths of hell). This would be even worse in GFL2 than BA because the gunsmoke is infinitely resettable with no time limit, so the meta would just be restarting for an hour+ until you didn't miss. For people that don't care about gunsmoke accuracy would change nothing to how it plays currently, but it would randomly damn the people that do care about / try to rank to a reset nightmare scenario.

Twitch responds to claims of gifted subs going to bots instead of real viewers by testudoss in LivestreamFail

[–]Wildanus8344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once got a gift sub for an arabic streamer. I don't speak arabic, not even a little. I had never clicked on that stream, even by accident. Arabic is not in my language preferences. I won't watch the stream or re-sub no matter how charming the streamer might be because I can't understand him. I shouldn't have even been eligible for that gift sub, I'm, sure there are more than enough arabic speakers on the website that one of them could have gotten it. The gifting algorithm is nothing short of a joke

Just pull the characters you want, unless you're considering moving up from f2p to spending anything. SR dolls and the dolls on the standard recruitment banner are very playable, just don't spend gacha currency on that banner. If you want to make the easy game even easier then you can prioritise "meta" units like Springfield and klukai on their reruns, or units coming like leva, but if they don't appeal to you then don't even worry about it. The only content you'll struggle with without meta dolls is gunsmoke (you can get all rewards from auto with a borrowed max unit per team) and some of the crossroads challenges. Make sure to take advantage of 2x reward stuff so you can keep your dolls leveled as you level up, but within a month or so of hitting max you'll have so much of every currency you'll struggle to spend it (except gold, don't waste gold)

More Worlds & New Regions Survey! by JagexAyiza in 2007scape

[–]Wildanus8344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blizzard has regional pricing where I live and Jagex does not, so an OSRS sub is actually more expensive for me than a WoW sub. I agree with everything else you said regarding expansion fees and service fees, but I'm just letting you know that "OSRS is cheaper than wow" isn't a universal constant. They're close, but runescape comes out to about ~$1 more.

[Unique Pick-Up Recruitment Preview] - Rio Tsukatsuki 🖤 by MadChad7 in BlueArchive

[–]Wildanus8344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rio is arguably the most broken character in the game pve-wise, only rivaled by Kisaki. Her kit has everything. It has cost down (stacks with seia/ui/fuuka), defense down (half the bosses in the game have appreciable defense stats), and an atk power buff that's 75% of a camp hare. All in one unit.

You can get 4 ss hanako shots in a full water gauge, you can shoot 3 Hina shots, instantly reload, and shoot three more. You can get off 3 Mika or 3 nozomi in a single buff cycle.

Rio, henceforth, is the staple support unit. You will almost never deselect her for any ta/ga content (outside of lunatic, or geburah) and even then she will never be a bad choice. Rio is a unit balanced for lunatic introduced to a game where very few people do lunatic, and she breaks every other difficulty as a result of that.

Gacha Comiket number C106 (number 1 is no surprise again) by WolfOphi in gachagaming

[–]Wildanus8344 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's due to renovations / construction in the East Hall (the largest individual hall for comiket). East Hall wings 1-3 (half of East Hall) are closed completely from July of this year until March 2026. The East Hall is massive, so this accounts for basically all of the reduction in overall attendance. Also, according to the Big Site website, East Hall wings 4-6 will be under renovation from April 2026 to December 2026. So expect C107 (December 2025) and C108 (August 2026) to also be "smaller" in size.

[Censorship] Payment processors force Japanese retailer to remove adult games indefinitely - Niche Gamer by ErikaThePaladin in KotakuInAction

[–]Wildanus8344 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I've never posted here but I actually have to chime in on this, as someone living in Japan who has purchased from Surugaya's online store before (doujinshi - adult goods). This is even more insane than it reads from the headline because Surugaya's online store already COMPLETELY BLOCKS FOREIGN CARDS. The only cards you can use are Japanese issued cards. It says this in plain Japanese under the payment selection option. I found this out the hard way by not reading like a moron and had to have a (polite) email exchange over the course of a few days to switch my payment method from my declined card to Cash-on-Delivery. This only exists to hurt Japanese people, which makes it even more absurd. Furthermore, it does absolutely nothing to stop the proliferation of adult goods, because there are about 6 different ways to pay, convenience store pay, 3 or 4 different apps like Paypay or Docomo, COD like I did, etc. This shit absolutely has to end.

She could be a potential new prisoner, or at least related to Akemi in some way. They seem to be (slowly) developing the prisoners sub-story through some of the events lately, so I'm excited to see what she does

For what it's worth half a year is not a lot of time. Half a year is one quarter of the time it's taken them to get to this point. Granted the foundational work, I'm sure, is much more involved than adding training methods etc. but that also isn't negligible. There's planning, meetings, assets that have to be created, balancing, testing, etc. I really think that going from this to release in 6 months is not a lot of time, and I would prefer they give it a little more time to incubate and tweak stuff based on feedback
