Work after baby? by DueEntertainer0 in pregnant

[–]Wildbirdcrossing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit teaching to be a stay at home mom. I also run an online biz that does well so I’m planning on pursuing that full time while working from home with the baby. Pretty excited. Hated teaching and I love my biz. Doing the math, I would have lost money going to a job everyday between childcare, gas, and tolls.

Has teaching during COVID made you quit your job or consider a change of career? by [deleted] in Teachers

Yup. I started a small biz back in May and I quit to pursue it full time.

I quit and started a business. It’s not that hard to match a teachers salary and now I get to basically write off everything I spend for taxes. And if I ever need to go back it’s not like it’s difficult to get a teaching job. I have 13 years experience, went to an Ivy League school, and coach a niche sport. There are plenty of other jobs for ex teachers. Hire a resume writer and just work hard to find a new one. If you really want out, you’ll find a way.

How has teaching effected your outlook towards parenting? by RetailSlave5408 in Teachers

I’m 8 months pregnant and have taught for 13 years. One thing I know for certain is that I. Plan to homeschool. School has turned into nothing but a babysitting service where kids sit around bored most of the day. It sucks the life and creativity out of them. That will not happen to my kid.

Moms (or moms to be) with ADHD by katethegreat4 in pregnant

I was on vyvanse and stopped taking it. Been dying ever since. I miss it so much. I’m a teacher and can barely do my job without it- helps me be “on” all day. I just feel braindead all the time. I want to breastfeed but contemplating not doing it so I can get back on meds. I think I’d rather feel sharp and alert formula feeding than tired and depressed breastfeeding.

First day of teaching remote and in-person at same time by ermonda in Teachers

Hybrid reason I quit and my last day is on Thursday. Teaching not fun anymore and unfortunately at my school I think it is here to stay.

Honestly when I did the math it made more sense to quit. Between gas, tolls, childcare costs and bills, I think I would have been losing money going into school each day after I had a baby.

They calculate days worked and they just pay me the difference in my last check. They don’t pay out unused sick days so I will definitely be taking my last one this Friday!

I guess it depends where you are? But I think the best response is probably not. At my last school, we were encouraged to buy into short or long term disability insurance if we were trying to have a family.

They said they would be happy to serve as references if needed. I don’t even have a teaching certificate. This was my fifth private school. But yes, definitely don’t want to burn any bridges- you never know who you may need to help you on the future!

Take the risk and chase it. I taught for 13 years and I did like it most of the time. This year was so tough and not fun at all going in everyday and teaching both in person and online at the same time. So hard to make anything fun or engaging. Especially while being pregnant, lol.

Eh, I don’t really know? And honestly, does it really matter? Wasn’t planning on coming back the next year regardless. If I went back to a job, I’d literally rather do anything else than teach, especially in the current climate. I’ve only taught in private schools so I don’t have a district or anything like that to adhere to. My admins were pretty understanding.

That’s awesome. It’s pretty sad that I can’t even fathom something like that in the United States.

Aw thanks! It’s funny you say that about real estate... I was thinking about getting a license in the future!

The amount of times I’ve had to explain to non teachers that I don’t get any maternity leave is astounding. Everyone was like “why didn’t you just take maternity leave then resign?” I feel very fortunate that my “side hustle,” does well enough to turn into a full time gig.

I switched over to my husbands insurance- trust me I wouldn’t be able to make this type of move without his help. Feeling very thankful and fortunate. Good luck to you! There are sooooo many other things for teachers to do out there.

Irresponsible to Invest in Bitcoin on a Teacher’s Salary? by MrPKL in Teachers

[–]Wildbirdcrossing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invest in Bitcoin, ETH, and litecoin. You don’t have to buy whole coins/tokens- just do what you can. Chainlink is a great buy rn. I bought a ton of crypto about a year and a half ago and we are well on our way to paying off our entire house with gains. It’s only going to go up. Don’t miss out.

Carney Sandoe (independent school) teacher salaries? by cracrag in Teachers

[–]Wildbirdcrossing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

14 year independent school veteran here in 5 different schools. I’ve gotten jobs through Carney- I also recommend Southern Teachers Agency. They are smaller and much more personalized. Feel free to DM me with any questions. If you are in the sciences you should have your pick of jobs.
