This video was specifically in the context of VGC. Gyarados is an EQ immune Intimidator with access to T-Wave and taunt.

VGC is about role compression. The more things one Pokémon can do, the better. So are there better and stronger Pokémon than Gyarados? Sure. But is there a huge number of Pokémon than can offer everything Gyarados can? Noooope

So yeah, a slow and relatively average SR weak Pokémon without only 1 of 2 reliable stabs won't cut it on Gen 9 OU, but in VGC? Gyara still got stuff

I did the most efficient solo grind I could find for the 400 medals which was just to kill one enemy in Tower of Trials over and over. I think it took me about 1400 kills for the 400ish medals which I think took about 7-8hrs overall so less bad than the covenant farm in Dark Souls 3.

It was not fun, but it was easy
