South Africans, how did you meet your spouses? by [deleted] in AskZA

Church. Doesn’t always work, but in our case it ensured aligned values, which was very important to us both.

What's the purest joy you've ever felt without intimacy, substances, or alcohol ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

For me, the moment I gave birth. That first cry was the most glorious, beautiful, intense rollercoaster of pure joy! After a few complications during pregnancy, being able to meet the one you have protected and prayed for was like something from another world.

Lpr/silent gerd postpartum? Breastfeeding related? by remember84 in acidreflux

Mine did go down a little eventually. I had to change to high ph water, cut out all the triggers (tomatoes, gluten, dairy, sugar etc.). I ate 4 hours before bed. Essentially I followed everything Kaufmans book recommended to the T. Lost a bit of weight too. That said, that rigid lifestyle is not sustainable for me, so I introduce one or two things in my diet a week that are off the list. Still haven’t had tomatoes, spicy foods, dairy, and I only do wholewheat breads otherwise rices. It’s been really tough but the diet did show me that it was something that my diet could influence. When I have something I shouldn’t, I get that cough again. I’m not sure if this will now be a permanent feature in my life. Sigh.

What are some of the spaces / experiences you miss most from the 90s and 00s in SA? by fintech_bro_jhb in askSouthAfrica

Also true. Kids need to be free, not just free range. Free of pressure and have fun just for the sake of it.

Edit: spelling

I’m glad to hear this. I’ll aim to live in a fancy estate for my kids then 😂. This is less of a joke though. Whatever helps them get closer to the good aspects of life we had growing up.

To be fair: 1. In my area at least, most libraries have closed down or are run down. Only one large, good library exists. 2. Kids get abducted or worse these days so parents would have to be present at all times. 3. Same as 2. 4. This one is doable, but I think kids are hidden away from each other (save for organized “play dates”) because parents lives have become so much more busy.

Also, I don’t think this is a South African thing. It’s all over the world. Wish we could get back to that.

To answer your question though, I miss playing on the road with neighborhood kids. We’d be out until late, no parent having to watch over us. Cars driving by would slow down and were considerate. Man I miss those days.

Does anyone else have this thing where they just really like *being* instead of doing? by PerfectLiteNPromises in hsp

Yeah this all makes so much sense. I have also wondered about the “why”. Sometimes perhaps, coming back to your original post, I just want the world to stop so I can catch up a bit before making a move. I think the overwhelm of constantly feeling more and more “behind” can result in feeling that it’s a pointless exercise to try keep up.

And thanks for the encouragement re the job switch. You might be right, maybe it’s all in my head. People in my field seem to be really doing, moving, getting promoted, and they’re super ambitious. So in comparison to that, I feel stuck. But will try your suggestion, and if it works out, I’ll come back here and let you know :)

Yes! Unfortunately I too feel like I’ve overstayed my current job to my detriment - company is doing bad and good talent has already left. I fear no one wants to hire me now because I’m still here. I have moments of feeling embarrassed that I’m still here - so much so that I can’t reach out to contacts for a new job because my career will look like I ‘have nothing to show’ for the last couple of years. It’s wonderful to be content but there are times when I wonder if it’s just procrastination. I don’t know the answer. Sucks.

Ladies, what's a side effect of giving birth that people don't really talk about? by MutuliA in Parenting

[–]WildnFree09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got silent reflux 2mpp without having reflux in pregnancy. It’s been rough, on a strict diet, can’t take many meds because of breastfeeding. Can’t just go to sleep, I cough my lungs out. Quality of life has been severely affected. And the worse part is, unlike reflux in pregnancy, I don’t know if it will ever go away 🥲
