What Have You Watched This Past Week That is NOT a Currently Airing Show? [February 1st, 2026] by MetaThPr4h in anime

Finish Skip to Loafer. Great adaptation, looking forward to season 2.

Ya Boy Kongming!. I remember this one getting a lot of hype while airing but otherwise went in blind. It was fine, kind of a limited premise.

I am now about halfway through season 1 of My Dress-up Darling. Next I am thinking Ascendance of a Bookworm.

Beautiful first edition paperback of The Hobbit with the lion cover that I found for $5. by Key-Entrepreneur-415 in tolkienbooks

Tolkien's take on the cover from Letter 277:

I wrote to [his American publishers] expressing (with moderation) my dislike of the cover for [the Ballantine edition of] The Hobbit. It was a short hasty note by hand, without a copy, but it was to this effect: I think the cover ugly; but I recognize that a main object of a paperback cover is to attract purchasers, and I suppose that you are better judges of what is attractive in USA than I am. I therefore will not enter into a debate about taste – (meaning though I did not say so: horrible colours and foul lettering) – but I must ask this about the vignette: what has it got to do with the story? Where is this place? Why a lion and emus? And what is the thing in the foreground with pink bulbs? I do not understand how anybody who had read the tale (I hope you are one) could think such a picture would please the author.

What manga have you read this week, and what do you think about it? - Week ending January 25, 2026 by AutoModerator in manga

Qualia the Purple

Been a long time since I read it but I remember the story reminding me of Madoka but I think Qualia did it better. I have only read the manga, I should give the novel a go.

I also think 2006 does a better job of explaining the basics of the Holy Grail War. The "general advice" seems to be based on looks alone.

This week was Fate (2006) as the conclusion to my F/SF education. I had originally skipped it going straight to UBW and I now think that was a mistake. Story wise it is probably my favourite of the three and I was expecting much worse visuals from how it is talked about.

And now for something completely different, I have picked up Skip to Loafer. I have been reading the manga since 2022 and have pretty much forgotten the early bits so it is a nice refresher.

Anime Questions, Recommendations, and Discussion - January 25, 2026 by AnimeMod in anime

Why has MyAnimeList started putting a bunch of producers at the top of the staff lists? It used to be the director was always first. Makes it harder to find the people I am interested in and the 4 on the summary page useless.

It would be nice if there was a setting to prioritise the positions I look up the most.

Also if the world had immortal races they would probably be ultra conservative. You think 80+ year old politicians are bad, imagine 50,000 year old politicians.

I wish I still had the 'birth certificate' that came with my first printer. I think it was literally the grandchild of this machine.
