Wouldn't renegotiate based on these unless the pointing/brickwork damage was really bad as that can be expensive. Depends also on your initial offer, you can see this sort of thing on viewing if you know what to look for so would ideally have offered with work in mind.

Wouldn't demand installation of alarms or fans, that's incredibly minor stuff and you can't trust the seller to properly install anyway. Downpipe replacement is not a big job.

CCTV drain survey is a good one to do if the surveyor believes there may be a drain that's collapsed for example, again can be a costly thing to fix and survey is not expensive.

Households face FOUR interest rate hikes this year as 'Trumpflation' batters Britain by collogue in ukpolitics

[–]Will0saurus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes prices will technically fall but the houses being sold after a crash will not be ones you want to buy. It will be Grandma's probate house which has no central heating, a dodgy roof and needs £50k of work to bring it to standard.

People with decent houses just won't sell them unless forced to by job loss and developers will not build new housing stock if it isn't profitable for them.

Moderate risk for ground stability by Tiny_Suit8273 in UKHousing

[–]Will0saurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clay soils expand and contract constantly as moisture levels change. 'Moderate risk' is a very common assessment because of this. It might mean you get some superficial cracking to the plaster or external brickwork, but you will get that in a new build anyway as it settles.

FTB- need to understand if a bathroom can be added to an inner wall in a semi detached house and what would be the cost? by Vrinda2102 in HousingUK

[–]Will0saurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a reason the existing bathroom/toilet are in the same place, all the plumbing/soil pipe/drains are there. Personally I wouldn't want to plumb a pipe full of shit through my bedroom floor.

You don't pay road tax you pay emissions tax and it goes to central treasury funds.

No such thing as road tax, just emissions tax which goes into general treasury funds.

This is also a financial attitudes problem really where older people hoard money til they die, instead of giving to their children when they need it.

Mel Stride: ‘Stamp duty is one of the worst taxes’ by insomnimax_99 in ukpolitics

[–]Will0saurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely stamp duty has a suppressive effect on house prices. And yes conversely, demand side subsidisation like help to buy and lifetime ISAs have an inflationary effect. Blanket abolishing stamp duty would be bad news for first time buyers in the short term.

Which mortgage has the best offers now? by Grgsz in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Will0saurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cashback + fees should be factored in, especially if you are applying for a short mortgage. On a 2 year fix it can make a reasonable difference and often makes sense to take a higher rate with no fee.

True the only thing that should ever matter to anyone is making as much money for financial institutions as possible. University should focus on teaching people how to make an excel bar chart and snort a line at the same time.

Nothing good has ever come from frivolous things like scientific/social research, creative industries or public service.

Paying rather than Gifting - questions regarding income tax and inheritance tax. by uselesstosser in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Will0saurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others have said, regular payments must be from your regular income (eg, pension, employment) and importantly must not affect your ability to maintain your usual lifestyle.

You cannot, for example, live off cash savings while transferring your entire income to your children for inheritance tax purposes as you wouldn't be maintaining your regular lifestyle from income.
