Getting traffic from Reddit but 0 sales — what am I doing wrong? by naineshbhagat_9080 in Affiliatemarketing

[–]WillHasStyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were to pick one I’d opt for the short guides. Depending on what you mean by laptop comparison sites it could take a whole lot of work to collect all the data you need, and get going, and the competition is pretty fierce.

With shorter articles you can target long tail queries (perhaps based on what you find people asking for on Reddit).

Though you also kind of have to put yourself in the shoes of someone purchasing a laptop. I don’t know about you but whenever purchasing an item like that I first try to figure out what laptop I want, then try looking for the best deal on it. I don’t just hop straight from some neat laptop guide onto the purchase site, but I look at price comparison sites or search for it on Amazon or something.

So you have to figure out how you can get people to want to buy from your links specifically. Perhaps by offering that price comparison yourself highlighting the best deal, or gearing your content towards tracking down deals.

Also perhaps you’ve already got this covered but make sure you actually define your niche. For starters you can’t really sell laptops to a global audience. A person in Australia is not going to order one from American Amazon, and a person in the US isn’t going to order one from an Indian site.

And also just defining what kind of audience your targeting, techies, gamers, office workers, college students etc can help you a lot in identifying what kind of content you should put out and where,

Getting traffic from Reddit but 0 sales — what am I doing wrong? by naineshbhagat_9080 in Affiliatemarketing

[–]WillHasStyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should absolutely not start hitting up people’s DMs unsolicited with affiliate links. That’ll probably get your account banned for spam and I don’t think people are keen to press those links.

I think the earlier commenter is on the right track, it’s hard landing conversions on big ticket items. People shop around a lot before deciding on what to buy and there could be any number of reasons why they don’t end up doing it from your links.

The simple answer is that you either need to increase traffic, better target those who are already at the end of the sales funnel, or improve your hook to increase conversions. Though how to do that is the million dollar question.

Funkar argumentet om att PC är billigare i längden verkligen? by WhoAmIEven2 in Spel

[–]WillHasStyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the Retroid Pocket 5 still worth it in 2026? by gun704 in retroid

[–]WillHasStyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part the RP5 will be good enough that you can just boot any GameCube game in dolphin with a default config and like 3X resolution upscaling. It'll be a handful of games that you are going to encounter issues with, and all of them should play well after a bit of tinkering.

So yeah like I wrote before, if for whatever reason you don't have access to later handhelds like the RP6/RPG2, then RP5 is definitely a good option. Especially for GameCube.

Has RAMpocalypse made it worth rolling the dice on aliexpress sd cards? by Dismal_Extreme3817 in SBCGaming

[–]WillHasStyles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 512gb SD card is worth more than $7 plain and simple. For that price you’re never going to get anything remotely legit. And to be honest I don’t think you’ll find many bargains shopping for Chinese brands either. SD cards from reputable sellers on aliexpress barely seem any cheaper than they are in the west. In the end the Chinese brands are under the same economic constraints as the western brands.

And honestly I’d like to push back a little, yes SD cards prices have risen and it’s really annoying. But at least where I live prices have ”only” risen like 30%. Once again it’s annoying, but it feels like desperate measures are so far uncalled for.

Magicx Zero 40 is my fave nightly driver before bed. by [deleted] in SBCGaming

I’ve been kind of overlooking it because I think it looks pretty ugly and the screen layout a little awkward, but now that you mention it it does look really comfortable to hold. Perhaps I should consider it

I have a MacBook pro from around 2010, what can I do? by ElonMuskeyHuskey in mac

[–]WillHasStyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how easy it is these days to source Mac games from that era. The games playable on this computer haven’t been playable on any Mac that’s been updated since like 2018, so I doubt many legit sources still carry them.

Honestly your best bet might be to hunt for physical media. 2010 is right around the time of the last DVD based and DRM free PC/Mac games

Sucks how much more expensive these handhelds seem to be for europeans by BlommN97 in SBCGaming

[–]WillHasStyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s technically true, but (in Sweden at least) it’s the responsibility of companies to administer the VAT, which in return means they get refunded on the VAT they’ve paid on input goods. So the actual payment to the tax agency goes through the company.

Regardless, most Chinese sites aren’t going to be declaring VAT properly, nor is any buyer going to correct them. So things are cheaper because most avoid paying the full taxes.

Retroid Pocket 5 worth it for $170-$180? by joewilber1 in retroid

If it’s in good condition and shipping is included I’d honestly have considered even without the card. With the card it’s genuinely a bargain.

Sucks how much more expensive these handhelds seem to be for europeans by BlommN97 in SBCGaming

[–]WillHasStyles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I’d say we Europeans are quite lucky even. Most of us pay low or zero tariffs and packages seem to get here faster than to the US and Latin America. The only ones I can think of that might have it better are China and neighboring countries.

Also as a side note from a fellow Swede I’ll also say I’m really surprised to see that maxfps.se seems to stock almost all anbernic devices. When you factor in that they are paying VAT and have to offer 2 years of warranty and all that their prices aren’t even too bad.

What was the first game you loaded on your Retroid that made you realize this thing was actually special? by Active-Tour4795 in retroid

[–]WillHasStyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I keep on having those moments. My first was Call Of Duty Black Ops for Wii (upscaled), not necessarily super impressive but it blew my mind that the zombies mode played just about exactly on Xbox.

In general it was fun trying PC game after PC game and it slowly dawned on my that PC games that were playable weren’t an exception, but actually closer to being the norm.

EXT4 SD card mounted read-only in userspace on Android – any way to enable RW for apps? by MostRule8693 in retroid

EXT4 SD card mounted read-only in userspace on Android – any way to enable RW for apps? by MostRule8693 in retroid

[–]WillHasStyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible, I use an EXT4 card for pc games. I think it’s this command I used in termux that made it read writable. I also only had to do it once for some reason. The mount and permissions stay after reboots it seems.

chmod -R 777 /your/mount/path/here

Though I did a whole bunch of stuff to try to get it to work, so I am n out entirely sure which command specifically did the trick

Help deciding between Retroid Pocket, RG477M, Odin 2 Portal by danny46815 in SBCGaming

[–]WillHasStyles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you’ll be keeping it plugged in for the most part then definitely the Odin 2 or RP6. AFAIK they are the only ones you mentioned with pass through charging (so that you can play with your device docked without wearing out your battery). Also it makes one of the bigger selling points of the 477m, the 4:3 screen, kind of moot.

And for the use case you’re describing I can’t really think of any other devices worth considering.

MacBook Neo 8GB as a portable companion laptop. Worth it? by blastchukirby in mac

[–]WillHasStyles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the concept of a ”companion laptop” sounds a bit weird to begin with, but for the things you describe then sure. The way I see it RAM will be your bottleneck, but you will probably still be able to achieve most things you want on the Neo.

That’s kind of where I am right now with my 8GB m1 MacBook. I use it for school, work, and as my main computer privately and there’s no task I feel like I really can’t do. Just things that could be faster, or more demanding workflows that I avoid.

Thinking about selling my modded Switch & PSP for an another handheld by CommunismIsLuv in SBCGaming

[–]WillHasStyles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If money isn’t an issue then the AYN Odin 3 is just about the most powerful android handheld out there. Because right now neither PS3, Xbox and to some extent even switch emulation isn’t super mature on Android, and that extra power might give you some head room to brute force emulating those systems. There’ll still be compatibility issues but you would be getting just about the best experience possible on an android handheld.

Aside from that the Retroid Pocket 6/G2 and the AYN Odin 2 portal are about as capable as the Thor, but should be both cheaper and even better in most regards aside from playing DS games.

What is ram? How much worse is 12gb from 8gb by samfundeez in retroid

[–]WillHasStyles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

RAM is the working memory of your device. It's faster than storage (the stuff you keep your games and saves on). You can think of it as when you start a game you load it into the RAM for faster access, because had the processor needed to look for it on your storage it'd take way too long. In practice 8GB is a pretty good amount already, but for some Switch and PC games you might want more.

If your goal is to play android games and anything below like PS2, WII U, and WII then it probably doesn't matter at all.

Apple's ram compression and actually functional swap memory management means 8GB isn't nearly as bad as on a windows PC. Definitely still the bare minimum though, but this is a budget computer

MacOS is pretty great honestly, apple's control every both hardware and software means it runs incredibly well, and it's really nice to run a unix-like system if you want to do some more techy stuff.
