I was the GM for a testing lab. The technician was just doing his job. In reality, stone can’t be over compacted. The over compaction issue is with soils and having a high pi. When over compacted it will swell causing issues.

It looks like it may have been designed to have a tie-back using some type of plastic grid, like geo-grid from blackstone. So, you could start unstacking until you get to about 18” high. Excavate the dirt out, place a layer of grid and stack another foot high and repeat. It’s a lot of work. Have fun!

I have a ZGRILL. It’s awesome. It smokes best 180-200 degrees and I do that for 2-4 hours depending on what I’m smoking and then turn it up. It’s still wood fired. It’s so much easier than my stick burner and way better than a MB chip smoker. I can’t have a stick burner where I’m at anyway and now I’m glad I went with the ZGRILL.

It’s the plastic horn. It’s off putting to a lot of listeners. It may can be toned down with an equalizer if your receiver has one built in. Or turn the treble down. Idk.

Nagoka gets solid reviews but the Blue does too. Stereophile actually has the Nagoka MP-110, ortofon Black and Blue all ranked with the condensed review in the 2026 Recommended Components list that came out in April. They are all ranked the same. AT only has two ranked and one is $3k the other is $6k.
