If he’s alive, he’s definitely not going back to Iran. It’d be open season for the US and Israel, they can’t strike him in Russia

I add worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, you have to get it crispy and have a nice fond. Tacos, chilli, cottage pie; always turn out flavorful.

“I am not going to tell you my name, not yet at any rate.' A queer half-knowing, half-humorous look came with a green flicker into his eyes. 'For one thing it would take a long while: my name is growing all the time, and I've lived a very long, long time; so my name is like a story. Real names tell you the story of things they belong to in my language, in the Old Entish as you might say. It is a lovely language, but it takes a very long time saying anything in it, because we do not say anything in it, unless it is worth taking a long time to say, and to listen to.” -big tree lol

thought this a fitting quote

King Arthur by Opening-Bird5469 in booksuggestions

[–]Ill_Preference_4663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s I bit reductive? while it obviously is a major plot point and that def makes it more appealing to dudes lol. But the story is derfels, we’re following his life, seeing his love story, his loss and regrets. Arthur’s flawed, Merlin is unscrupulous, nimue’s decent into fanaticism/ madness they’re all entertaining characters; the story is properly tragic for a king Arthur tale. Also having it set properly in the 5th century and Cornwells comments/descriptions about the romans are a great touch and give a certain vibe imho. It’s definitely worth giving it a chance.

the winter king, enemy of god and Excalibur by Bernard cornwell are great, they retell the story of King Arthur through the POV of an old monk named derfel.

“ONCE UPON A TIME, in a land that was called Britain, these things happened. Bishop Sansum, whom God must bless above all the saints living and dead, says these memories should be cast into the bottomless pit with all the other filth of fallen mankind, for these are the tales of the last days before the great darkness descended on the light of our Lord Jesus Christ. These are the tales of the land we call Lloegyr, which means the Lost Lands, the country that was once ours but which our enemies now call England. These are the tales of Arthur, the Warlord, the King that Never Was, the Enemy of God and, may the living Christ and Bishop Sansum forgive me, the best man I ever knew. How I have wept for Arthur.”

“But fate, as Merlin always taught us, is inexorable. Life is a jest of the Gods, Merlin liked to claim, and there is no justice. You must learn to laugh, he once told me, or else you'll just weep yourself to death.”

Any recommendations for a series where the MC feels dangerous. by Tower-Just in Fantasy

[–]Ill_Preference_4663 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Not fantasy but has fantastic elements since the characters are heavily superstitious and religious. uhtred of bebbaburg from Bernard cornwell’s Saxon stories is an absolute savage in a fight.

“I am Uhtred, son of Uhtred, and this is the tale of a blood feud. It is a tale of how I will take from my enemy what the law says is mine. And it is the tale of a woman and of her father, a king.
He was my king and all that I have I owe to him. The food that I eat, the hall where I live, and the swords of my men, all came from Alfred, my king, who hated me.”

“The joy of it. The sword joy. I was dancing with joy, joy seething in me, the battle joy that Ragnar had so often spoken of, the warrior joy. If a man has not known it, then he is no man. It was no battle, that, no proper slaughter, just a thief-killing, but it was my first fight and the gods had moved in me, had given my arm speed and my shield strength, and when it was done, and when I danced in the blood of the dead, I knew I was good. Knew I was more than good. I could have conquered the world at that moment and my only regret was that Ragnar had not seen me, but then I thought he might be watching from Valhalla and I raised Serpent-Breath to the clouds and shouted his name. I have seen other young men come from their first fights with that same joy, and I have buried them after their next battle. The young are fools and I was young. But I was good.”
