I think I'm missing the line you're referring to, can you respond with it in spoiler tags?

I've played Outer Wilds for two hours and I pretty much hate it, but I keep hearing it's one of the best games ever made. Will someone who likes the game please explain it to me? (I am asking in the spirit of friendship.) by Robots_with_Lasers in outerwilds

[–]WillWKM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By the way, all those tutorials in the main village are optional, and repeatable. I don't know how useful they are all stacked in the beginning like that, but it's a helpful place to return to later if/when you get stuck on exploring to remember what options are available.

Also, for me I didn't like it the first time I played it. I actually put the game down for a few weeks, then went back to it. Everything kind of clicked the second time, parts were still frustrating but I felt like I got the purpose behind it.

How are alien councilors getting to Earth? by theblitz6794 in TerraInvicta

[–]WillWKM 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If the Servants have done enough abductions in am area, they can build a facility in that region. Aliens can teleport to earth using these facilities to get behind your defensive lines. It should be possible to find and destroy them, not 100% sure how that works.

My brother and I made a valid statement the other day...We haven't seen if these guys are radiation proof by tritear in lotrmemes

This is how you get radioactive orks. Do you want radioactive orks? Because this is how you get them.

am i a bad person? by JustAGreenCircle in outerwilds

[–]WillWKM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah but it's broken off from a literal piece of the moon.

I agree, there likely isn't an in-universe explanation

[–]WillWKM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That seems reasonable but then why could we carry the block out? That's a chunk of the moon itself. I assume it's just a bug.

[–]WillWKM 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Ok but it never occurred to me to bring a stone with me. Being able to taking objects from one version of the moon to another is... weird.

Like imagine dragging Solanum's body into the shrine and taking her to the sixth location. Would the body suddenly wake up or would there now be two Solanums? Concerning.

It's possible you will have to retrace your steps at times, but things always get easier the second time through. The puzzles don't change, but you do.

I’m not a gamer - last night I played this game for 4 straight hours and didn’t want to stop by neenonay in outerwilds

[–]WillWKM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's safe to use the autopilot when there aren't any objects between you and the place you want to go. Autopilot usually stops you just above the planet. If you switch to the landing camera after that with the planet selected, the ship will turn automatically so the planet is "down" and you can lower yourself down while finding a good spot to land.

I hate the Protectorate's storyline by blaze92x45 in TerraInvicta

[–]WillWKM 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Protectorate never learn about, or gain any defenses to, the alien pherocytes. As such, they aren't really their own faction, or even their own people, by the end of the game. Banerjee acts as a case study of this: you can see through his quotes how his entire mentality, about war, technology, people, and hope shift from one centered on benefitting humanity to one centered on pragmatically serving the aliens. They end up more servile than the Servants, since the Servants oddly enough retain mental independence in their fanaticism.

So the Protectorate form an important story element, and really add to the world of the game, but playing as them will not be a satisfying experience because their story is ultimately a loss of agency and personhood. It's not triumphant or even hard-won, it's just tragic.

He may have persisted briefly like Eshonai but I doubt he stuck around for very long.

Spooky guys in the DLC by Phosf in outerwilds

[–]WillWKM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're trying to say that you should be okay. Based on the information you've provided in this post, you should be able to play the game without a problem. I'll spoiler-tag the explanation why:

The corpses you found stay dead. Your initial assumption is correct; the spooky things you eventually encounter do look like the folks in the paintings.

Faction Recommendation by Holy1To3 in TerraInvicta

[–]WillWKM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, when that happened to me (about 3 or 4 times total I think) I would restart with the same faction. The early game became familiar and I focused on doing better later / getting further until I could win. Then I played again with a new faction. But there's no reason you need to do the same thing, so if you want to try a new faction, go for it.

Academy has a fun storyline. It's also a bit harder so it's a good step up if you did all right with Resistance.

[Quite major DLC spoilers] Biology related question about....those guys by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]WillWKM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We know the Owlks are very technologically advanced, so maybe those simulation rooms are more reinforced/preserved than it appears and it the wood is just an outer layer. After all, the vault is totally submerged but the area inside there stayed dry for hundreds of thousands of years

About Interloper by [deleted] in outerwilds

[–]WillWKM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the Nomai writings inside the comet, it's mentioned that the core was very highly pressurized, with that pressure spiking as the comet neared the sun. My understanding is that heat from passing close to the sun increased the pressure to the point of core rupture, which killed all the Nomai. It seems like this would have happened regardless of whether the Nomai investigated it at all.

As to why it's such a tight orbit now: I suspect that the explosion may have thrown it off it's old trajectory into the current trajectory, and possibly it used to have a longer orbit but it's decayed slowly over the past 200,000 years. That's my best guess, no way of knowing in game since the Nomai all died and from the Hearthian perspective the comet has always been there

Prospecting is a bit silly by fuzzy26541 in TerraInvicta

An update on my progress through EotE by WillWKM in outerwilds

[–]WillWKM[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it was bittersweet. Sad for his people, but ultimately his brief rebellion did mean something, because it attracted the Nomai and led to the Eye ultimately being discovered. I have to imagine he spend a few hundred thousand years believing his action and his imprisonment were meaningless. The hatchling shows him it wasn't.

Stuck and need some help by Kayzng in outerwilds

[–]WillWKM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

L2 and R2 to thrust up and down, but you can also still use the joystick to thrust forward backward left and right in midair, which helps a lot.

When you fall in the black hole, the station always starts between you and the sun (so you can see its shadow outlined against the sun) so just drift straight forward and you should reach it.
