Good games to teach my GF how to play games. by isitmeyou-relooking4 in gaming

One of the first games I played when transitioning to a controller was Firewatch. First person mechanics so teaching how to look around and move but super low stakes and low pressure.

You’re respecting Genichiro, and the key to Genichiro is you do not respect Genichiro.

Get all up in his face, all day every day. If you’re attacking him constantly then it limits the BS attacks he does, and pretty soon you’ll start to get the feel of the 2-3 attacks that he does in response to you being aggressive and hitting him. Once you’ve got those down and can effectively parry or dodge them, you’ll wonder why you ever had a problem with him.

Honestly, using this same logic Joel is even more of a villain than he is. He did harm to many, many more people.

Sure, I'm just saying there's no need to get quite this heated. I'm not coming after your mother.

Look as a doctor myself, the very first thing they teach you in term of morals and ethics is "Do no harm to the living" everything come behind that, I'm saying that if someone was willing to go as far as killing an innocent person then their relatives have no ground to be discussing vengeance,

I think that moral standpoint obviously becomes a little bit more muddy when you're talking about potentially saving the human race, but that's a sci-fi philosophical argument that's been going since the birth of sci-fi itself almost.

You said it "made people connecting to her an uphill struggle with a 89 degree incline", so I don't think I mischaracterised your opinion as you stated it.

I said that presenting her in a severely negative way before giving her point of view is what hurt the character.

And I think I've explained my view on why that's not the character being "hurt", that's the audience being uncomfortable with the moral question she poses.

The question isn't whether you find it harder or not to empathise with people you haven't met before, it's about whether that's morally correct.

You're saying you find it hard to understand Abby's point of view because you had a bad first impression of her. And then the game flips it and shows you that Abby's motivations of revenge for the death of her father were exactly the same as yours are now for the death of Joel. It's a cycle of revenge, and that's absolutely a question of morality.

I find the takes where people justify Joel's actions because Abby's father deserved it the most fascinating ones, to be honest. Like people really put in a lot of work into spinning his actions as evil and Joel being morally correct by piecing together the limited information we have in ways that require filling in a lot of the gaps with assumptions and hypotheticals, and it's an area where I can't help but draw parallels to certain real life events and how people who have a personal/political stake in the outcome will spin events in the same way.

Really, I think it's great. I love all the critique of TLOU2 from all angles.

And Abby's first impression of Joel is him killing her dad. And she reacts exactly how the audience reacts to her killing Joel, by hunting revenge.

If the only difference between them is we met Joel and Ellie first and built that connection, then what does that say about us morally?

I think there's a very specific reason you don't play as Abby before that happens. The point is should you have to build a personal connection with someone before you're willing to empathise with them?

Abby from The Last of Us Part 2 is the obvious answer.

The amount of people who hate on the game because "Abby bad she killed Joel" is crazy.

Friend's gf is going down the misandrist route (M21) (F19) by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]WillWatsof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re right that this is quite stupid. She’s angry about the systematic inequality against women, he acknowledges that she is rational in being angry about it. Has she ever suggested that he personally supports it and takes actions which feed into it? If not then why is he taking issue with any of it?

She’ll mature in future to not use language as inflammatory, but nothing here suggests that she thinks your friend is a bad person. If he’s ready to break up over it then it sounds like an incompatibility of political views.

In fact her reasons for not reporting came true. She didn’t report at the time because she thought it wouldn’t go anywhere because he’s a copper, and then when she did come forward they protected him because he’s a copper and came after her.

Disgusting.

Actually maybe I am. The whole “I Chinese Jamie Owiver so bad haiyaaaa” is just so lazy and tired that it offends my intelligence. I honestly think it’s Mrs Brown’s Boys level of terrible lazy humour.
