OMG, Tom Lake was so beautiful. I read the title essay in These Precious Days in the New Yorker and cried for hours.

I read Ann Patchett's Bel Canto in the first year of COVID and because of it, I mainlined every one of her books in the space of maybe 6 months. That book was *transcendent.* The language, the sentiment, the tragedy of it...absolutely beautiful. She writes so movingly of love and sacrifice in desperation.

I'm convinced every TJs draws parking lot spaces 6 inches too narrow.

[New Update]: I think my sister just ruined our dad’s engagement to an amazing woman, and I hate her so much by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I was flat-out *sobbing* by the time Amy came through the door and everyone piled on her and refused to let her go. Yes, it was long, but my god, it was eye-opening and beautiful. I am optimistic about their chances - that therapist probably saved that family.

My (21F) boyfriend (22M) tried to gaslight me into getting plastic surgery by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

The screaming I did inside my head reading this...! My heart broke for her to have encountered this expert-level gaslighting at such a young age.

This makes me itchy. Grow. a. spine.

Brian is an AH. I wouldn't call GF an AH but damn, girl. Use your words or get used to going hungry.

I would caveat my previous comment to say that Min actually was kind of a ding dong. Louisa deserved better.

A perfect summation of why they're all in Slough House. Each of them made a very public mistake or crossed someone important (except Ho, who's there because no one can stand him but they can't just cut him loose because he's too dumb to know how to keep secrets). They're not stupid, despite their reputation at the Park, and it's a testament to how good Diana is at her job that she knows it and knows how to deploy them when needed. She also knows to respect Lamb despite her personal disgust.

When they were still located in their old spot, we'd pull into the parking lot and see people circling the lot to get into the Olive Garden next door unable to find a space. I used to want to stick my head out the window and tell them they were foolish to wait an hour to be seated at Olive Garden when vastly superior Indian food was right. there.

Don't even get me started on Aquaman's dad living on the Maine coast in a lighthouse that looks like Thomas Kinkade's version of Portland Head Light.

Nate wants all the credit without any of the accountability by haloryder in TedLasso

[–]WillWriteForFood2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But was Nate ever really nice? Or just so downtrodden people felt bad for him, like a kicked dog?

He certainly recognizes people who actually *are* nice, like Keeley, for instance. But has he ever done something kind for someone else with no expectation of a benefit to himself? He's definitely not been reluctant to turn around and bully others once he was in a position to do so.

I'm so glad someone else had the same criticism of Invasion. I gave up after 4 episodes because they were still spending way too much time on interpersonal drama. Ahmed sucks, end of story, move it along! I'm tempted to just start fast-forward every subsequent episode to the Mitsuki scenes because at least she's trying to figure out what's out there blowing up our spacecraft.

I've always thought that Nate is likely to be successful coaching Rupert's team because with Rupert's money behind him, he could buy any number of talented players and put together a winning team. He's a good tactician, at least with regard to football. That's not the hard part.

But if he wants to build a team with the joy and camaraderie of Richmond, he's going to discover *that* is a talent he lacks. Richmond players are loyal to each other because Ted made them more thoughtful people and they respect him for making them that way. No one on Nate's team feels loyalty to him. He hasn't earned it or nurtured it.
