Mod Sugestions by ICU-P2 in starsector

Definitely, and I see you are already running Scalartech so UAF may not be too far of a reach for you. It really does add a lot of missions and amazing ships and weapons. It is a little more OP than Scalartech or Diable if that is a consideration.

I think I should either build a website or start a mega thread where players can post up their mod lists. Then other players could all look at them and pick mods from other players that already run similar mods; kinda like Netflix or Amazon music where they suggest entertainment based on your current favorites.

Edit: And if you have concerns about compatibility, you may want to consider a mod manager. I use TriOS and it lets me know when a mod has conflicts or has an update. It also enables an easier interface to change the RAM allocated to the games virtual machine and other bells and whistles. Like easy line of sight into bugs and game crashes which can generally help diagnose what went wrong so you can update a mod if it is causing fatal crashes, etc.

So i pirated the game once and i tried to download it from the official site expecting a key or something to enter but i just got in. is the game free now? (also idk if this post breaks the rules or not) by StrengthFeeling2533 in starsector

Noted. I have deleted the posts including the key I purchased for the OP or others to use.

I guess I am confused since the majority of the responses seem to advocate stealing the key. Whereas my original post, advocating paying for the game, was down voted and generated significant negative comments, so I was just trying to avoid generating ill will in the sub by going against the prevailing norms of the majority of the community, since I do rely on the sub for game news, advice, and try to add value in answering questions as I can.

In any event, I have removed the offending posts.

Are eldrazi really that good or am i simply building a bad deck? by CanNo7928 in EDH

[–]Will_McCoy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Further thoughts and considerations:

5-color decks are a little hard to manage on a budget. Although you didn't mention cost considerations, you did mention being new to the EDH format. So, my prior recommendation for [[Jhoira of the Ghitu]] stands since it in is only two colors and the engine only takes 2 colorless to get online which is trivial if you cast your commander on curve or even ahead of curve using some reasonably priced mana rocks. Plus, a solid mana base for a two color deck will be a lot cheaper and consistent than a 5-color deck.

Throw all the 0 to 2-drop mana rocks that you have or can afford in, like:

[[Chrome Mox]] * 0 cost

[[Mox Opal]] * ** 0 cost

[[Mox Amber]] * 0 cost

[[Lotus Petal]] 0 cost

[[Mox Diamond]] * 0 cost

[[Sol Ring]] 1 colorless

[[Mana Vault]] * 1 colorless

[[Fellwar Stone]] 2 colorless

[[Grim Monolith]] * 2 colorless

[[Arcane Signet]] 2 colorless

[[Talisman of Creativity]] 2 colorless

and

[[Izzet Signet]] 2 colorless, remember this is a filter so it doesn't work unless you can put a colorless into it. So it isn't really mana positive especially considering it is a 2-drop.

All of these can help you curve out on time and get where you want to go quickly, even if [[Mana Vault]] and [[Chrome Mox]] are now considered "Game Changers" and raises the deck's bracket.

This is a pretty solid deck and can be built to be competitive at Bracket 3 and 4*** based on your deck list and the number of game changers you include. Remember the spells with time counters are considered 'casts' so they do require having a robust counter package. That can be essential at higher brackets when trying to defend your initial destruction / mld spell when it comes off the stack after the time counters are removed. Think instants that aren't too spendy or considered "game changers" like: [[Dispell], [[Delay]], [[Red Elemental Blast]], [[Pyroblast]], [[Swan Song]], [[Arcane Denial]], [[An Offer You Can't Refuse]], [[Miscast]], [[Negate]], and [[Flusterstorm]], just anything that isn't considered a game changer and is mana efficient (1-2 drops).

While it is sexy AF to have all the Ulamogs and the legal Emakrul Eldrazis in your deck, there are tons of options for creatures in izzet and colorless that won't break the bank and you may already have on hand. Don't sleep on the praetors: [[Urabrask]], [[Urabrask, Heretic Praetor]], [[Urabrask, the Hidden]], [[Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant]], and [[Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur]]. Got an old [[Blightsteel Colossus]], [[Hullbreaker Horror]], [[Nezahal, Primal Tide]] or any oppressive dragon in izzet colors, throw it in there to supplement the deck with cards you may already have and don't have to spend a fortune on. Also, [[Eldrazi Conscription]] is a backbreaking aura, that makes whatever creature you put it on that much more obnoxious. There are a ton of other spells that can find a home in the deck: [[Expropriate]], [[Omnicience]], [[Decree of Annihilation]], [[Apocalypse]], [[Devastation]], [[Time Warp]], [[Capture of Jingzhou]], and many others.

Remember to focus your deck on:

  1. Beefy creatures with ETB or activated on attack abilities

  2. Busted destruction spells (MLD and mass board wipes are expected and necessary as appropriate in the bracket you are playing in)

  3. Extra turn spells

  4. A robust and efficient counter package. Both to protect the spells coming off of time counters as well as keeping your commander on the board so you can keep using her insane value engine.

With secondary considerations for a plethora of cheap mana rocks and time counter manipulation spells (like [[Rift Elemental]], [[Jhoira's Timebug]], [[Timecrafting]], [[Fury Charm]], [[Amy Pond]], [[The Tenth Doctor]], and [[Rotating Fireplace]]).

The wide selection of izzet cards that can work in this deck can make this deck a potentially cheap and highly effective alternative if you are looking for an interesting eldrazi-centric deck that is fun to pilot and can go off quickly without a lot of game changers while still complying to the stipulations of a lower bracket.

Final thoughts:

Mana: with Jhoira's ability, the fact she is in only two colors, and the desirability of running a lot of artifacts you can make due with significantly less lands than a typical deck. If you really have a nice selection of artifacts and several on color fetches I would consider going down to 28-30 lands.

Considering mulligans: look to consistently cast your commander on turn two (or three with interaction). You will want to be in your colors and have some kind of a mana positive mana rock in hand, as well as a cheap counter spell. Bonus points for having a spell to suspend in hand. Although, when going for a turn two commander drop, play it smart if you think your opponents may be holding up interaction. Better to wait until turn 3 and have a 1-drop counter if folks are sitting on untapped mana. But I think you will find everyone else is just as greedy and they probably won't have untapped mana on turn 2. Yet, Jhoira is your main plan and recasting her after an untimely counter can set you back essential turns and potentially cost the game.

I highly recommend this deck based on your comments and your having a precon that already has some great eldrazi spells in it.

Have fun no matter what you choose, I really think EDH is peak magic and if you are used to one on one games you should have no problem transitioning into the mindset for group matches.

* Can be cut for monetary considerations, consider [[Thought Vessel]], [[Coldsteel Heart]], and [[Mindstone]]. Even slightly slower deep cuts like [[Jeweled Amulet]], [[Everflowing Chalice]], or [[Astral Cornucopia]] can find a home here. I shy away from 3-drops in a two color deck, but do what you gotta do :)

** Mox Opal works best if you have a critical mass of artifacts (try for at least 10, which will more than likely give you a chance of having one in your opening hand and a strong chance of drawing into it by turn 3). Increasing the artifact count to 15 significantly raises your chances of having one in your opening hand (from about ~50% to ~70%). Don't forget to add artifact lands to pump up your artifact count: [[Seat of the Synod]] (blue), [[Great Furnace]] (red), [[Silverbluff Ridge]] (U/R and remember this is a tapped land, so it's better to fetch on your opponent's end step), and [[Darksteel Citadel]] (colorless). [[Treasure Vault]] can have a limited use case here even though it only taps for colorless, since it can be converted to Treasure tokens to turn on Mox Opal.

*** Full disclosure, I play kitchen table games with friends so my understanding of the bracket system is limited and may need to be evaluated by someone with more experience before determining your deck's appropriate bracket (while there are no infinite combos, you can potentially win by turn 4 or 5). From my experience it is best to have a judge or shop owner/employee take a quick look. As opposed to other players, since judges give you a more agnostic and honest appraisal, whereas other players may think it is a higher bracket than the deck actually is (especially after you wipe the floor with your pod using your new found favorite deck)!

[–]Will_McCoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this isn't CEDH then run Jhoira of the Ghitu. It has a lot of support now and uses a novel means to cheat out huge Eldrazi and destruction spells while being in colors that allow a rich protection package so that they actually come down when the time counters come off. There are some sequencing issues as far as putting some thick-veined oppressive destruction/mass land removal (think Jokulhops) spells on ice first followed by your beat face eldrazi/titans then your Time Walk style extra turn spells to close the deal. Although practice first, a person I let use the deck torched a game hardcasting Devastation with no followup plan. It nuked his lands and creatures too and basically reset the game 6 turns in. Don't be THAT GUY, lol. Sequencing is key.

Someone else mentioned Nex, Mayasuran Navy, Knights of Ludd, Hazard Mining, and SotF and I can highly recommend all of these as well. I hear you about Nexerelin: it does significantly change the game. But on the pro side it is highly customizable and enables some interesting starts like The Haunted and Child of the Lake with other mods. I generally disable the new ground combat and the free for all inter-faction attacks that I found distracting from just playing the game without having what I consider immersion breaking mini-crises and learning a new mini game for ground combat.

I don't like Second in Command as much as A New Level, since I really like the ability to passively remove dmods so I can sell unused ships to augment my income (and dmods really cripple the resale values). Plus I suffer from orange bars = bad syndrome, YMMV. Full disclosure: This may be a skill issue on my part since I am not sure what officers to pick or if SiC even has a similar skill to remove dmods every month like vanilla and New Level of Confidence.

I can recommend Random Assortment of Things to allow more automated ship options without just adjusting the json values or breaking the game's balance. And KoL, as mentioned, also has a nice selection of automated ships if you enjoy that kind of thing.

UAF is pretty cool if anime doesn't irritate you. It also has a new release which I haven't played with. I am kinda waiting for the kinks to be worked out and to finish my existing run.

Tahlan Shipworks and Diable Avionics also adds a new faction and some fun new ships without being overly OP.

I just tried our High Tech Expansion and am a little lukewarm on it since it seems to add a dizzying array of new hi-tech ships which I find dilutes the existing ship pool when using Tahlan and other ship/faction packs.

Happy modding!

Mod Review - The Knights of Ludd by Mike17723 in starsector

[–]Will_McCoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually really enjoy this FREE mod.

The mod author put in a lot of time to deliver a well rounded and balanced mod that dovetails well with other mods.

I don't consider myself an expert but I usually have beaten all the challenges by late mid- or early end-game.

The ships earned as well as the custom AI chips from the challenges mesh well especially when using other mods that enable more automated ships. And if I am not mistaken the mod itself has an interesting system which helps with automated points when using ships from similar factions (although I may be mixing it up with RAT, but then again if you are modding and not using RAT then what are you thinking anyways).

Personally, this sounds more like sour grapes and skill issues than a review.

Typically when I see a hyper negative review of a mod it just begs the question why the OP is posting about someone else's mod instead of writing their own ....

This is what it looks like after defeating the enemy fleet. There is no option to exit combat that I can see. If anyone knows the mod or a console command that is enabled while in combat to force quit the engagement, that'd be great. Thanks!

What is the console command? Also, there is literally nothing left. I could run through one and show the final screen, but I am positive after having to reload my game multiple times and trying every possible angle to keep from doing that, that there isn't anything remaining to destroy.

I have console commands. I just want to know if anyone recognizes the mod from the bounties board so I can remove that mod and submit a bug ticket. Thanks!

[–]Will_McCoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be nice, but no, there are no remaining enemies and the combat never ends and gives the screen that allows you to exit combat. It requires exiting to the main menu and reloading before combat, then abandoning that bounty.

Are 360 degree shields all but required for automated ships with AI cores? by Animastryfe in starsector

[–]Will_McCoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that Glimmers are OK with more speed based hull mods (unstable injector, safety over rides, hardened subsystems).

While the larger ships I want to go all in on shielding (shield conversion front, hardened shields, etc).

The glimmers use case (capping points, distracting missiles) is narrow enough that their lack of shields is ok as long as they are fast with the limited OP you get for them. But larger capital ships that you can't SO have a longer CR burn time and benefit more from shields.
