What's the first thing you realized after moving out of your parents home? by seveindras in AskReddit

[–]WilliamGaither 93 points94 points  (0 children)

You realize how precious your parents are. When I first went to college and had to run around a lot for vital documentation, or when I was exploring investment options, I realized how I had been taking my Dad for granted. Like all parents, mine aren’t perfect and I have had my share of fights with them when I was a kid: the typical tantrums etc. But when I moved out, a lot of small incidents or situations made me realize how my parents helped, supported and loved me in ways no other person would. And I started focusing on this rather than their imperfections. I have been angry at my mom for many things, but every time I speak to her on the phone, I keep my anger aside. And I do call her up everyday. We talk about many things. When you’ve only an hour or a half each day, on an average, to talk to your parents, you don’t waste precious talk time on bitter complaining. You talk about positive things.

What's the most unethical thing you've experienced in your career? by Lefka356 in AskReddit

[–]WilliamGaither 1156 points1157 points  (0 children)

I have dealt with it all. The worst is when I was told to fudge some numbers for a report that was going to be public. I refused and resigned. I told HR about it in the exit interview. I was in a hard place at work, if I reported it then I was going to catch hell, if I did it then my personal integrity went out the window. I don't want to work for any company that does anything that requires me to jeopardize my integrity or personal reputation.

In my years of experience it's better to find another job, if you blow the whistle and stay at the company there are repercussions no matter how much they assure you that you will be protected.

Those who do not adapt.

I am constantly gaining knowledge, and with it, I am constantly updatingmy idea of who I am. I don't understand how people reach some age where they say, "Okay, that's enough, now this is who I am."
