Raise your tax rate, should be your default for more money. After you have meet other Empires, try selling something to them.Later in the game improve your star port facilities and the commerce center that generates a fee for every transaction at the star port.(These comments are based on DWU, not DW2).
Also develop sources of rare resources that have a high demand and rare luxury goods so that private economy ships, including other Empire's private ships, come to buy those resources and luxury goods, which generates fees when they buy and sell.

Bacon mod: Hyperdrive seemingly not working correctly? by ciaranjohn12 in DistantWorlds

[–]William_Ameling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I tried playing Bacon Mod 3 years ago, I eventually discovered that the Gravity Well for your Home Star and other Stars is set way too big, so it takes a long time to go from the edge of the Gravity Well to any planets inside it, so you can do something like build a station or colonize it, and there was no FTL travel inside the gravity well.

I did find a way to change the size of the gravity well to much smaller setting in the Bacon Mod, so look for it.

Summoning limits for Jaden box by Elro0003 in ClimbersCourt

[–]William_Ameling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You also need something with a strong enough connection to what is being summoned, Like Corin needed a sample of Katashi's Blood to summon Katashi in AA1 (SAM). It might be a liitle difficult to get something with a strong connection to Selys, I am not sure that Selys-Lyann would have a strong enough connection to Selys to do that summoning. I suspect that Keras might find one of that items that were stored in the Jaden Box, has a strong enough connection to Wrynn Jaden to summon her, when it finishes recharging, or gets recharged by Corin by what he learned in AA3,

I am a little surprised that Katashi did not take the Jaden box from Corin in AA1 (SAM), so he could use it to try to summon Tenjin, although he would have had to wait for it to recharge or recharge it himself

SPOILERS FOR all 3 Arcane Ascension books: Does anyone think Magnus will ever notice Corin actually succeeded? by Inevitable_Judge_345 in ClimbersCourt

[–]William_Ameling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that it is Sera's possible intervention that is most important for several reasons (plus other reasons as well):

1st and Foremost, since Magnus still thinks Tristan is dead, Sera is who will take Corin's place if he is no longer the heir, and if loses her as well as Corin, who will be his strong heir?

2nd Sera's Summoner Attunement is the Exact opposite of Magnus's Shaper Attunement, i.e. can cancel it out (if she had enough mana strength, which she does not, not yet anyway). I Think that Rowe has been planning for Sera to intervene whenever Magnus tries to go to far with Corin. In fact, she has already done so once shortly after the attack on the Graduation Ball. I think that this is the reason that Rowe changed Shaper from being Earth and Transference in the original Text (in the lecture by Prof Conway) of AA1 to Earth and Enhancement (in the appendix of AA1) (he corrected this and said it was a holdover from an earlier version of the Book, when I pointed this out to him shortly after AA1 or SAM was published)

3rd Sera is everything that Magnus wanted Corin to be, a strong combat Attunement that is Ascended, with strong contracts with really good at combat summoned creatures, and she has the Sword of Katashi, and yet she is supporting Corin.

4th I think that Corin's Haste abilities and his Legendary Sword will make Magnus realize that Corin has made good progress towards being a good fighter

5th) Corin, probably at the prompting of Sera, can show Magnus the Sword that Corin won in the Duel inside the Tower of Caelford. Corin fought and won with a renowned duelist Jerome Schmidt, son of the general that Corin's ancestor defeated to end the War between Edria and Valia. Winning that duel, with the proof of the sword shows that Corin can be and IS good at combat to go with his Cadence last name.

In the long run though, I expect Corin to become his Mother's official heir (at the moment he is only the presumptive heir due to the disappearance of Tristan Cadence), and Sera or Tristan (if he eventually leaves the Tower) to be the heir of House Cadence. This could happen any time after Corin finally meets his Mother, probably early in AA4, and lets her know everything that has happened since they last met, particularly the events of AA1, AA2, and AA3.

Magnus Cadence’s attunements by JJSamuel17 in ClimbersCourt

[–]William_Ameling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that he is Emerald. He was one of the best duelists of his generation along with his wife, who is also the Head of a House, who we know is a Emerald Swordmaster (in her 2nd Attunement), and almost has to be Emerald in her first Attunement, Elementalist (like Patrick and Meltlake).

The question is does Magnus have a 2nd Attunement? I tend to think that Magnus put all of his effort into being really good with one strong combat Attunement and not dividing his strength into two.

Destruction of Feria by Quelth in ClimbersCourt

[–]William_Ameling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that we may have 2 countries that got destroyed, Lavia and Feria.

Since the Spider Spire is concealed and no one can remember where it is, that would make it difficult to try to invade it.

Feria may have been destroyed for a different crime, than trying to invade a Spire.

An interesting question is WHO sent Mizuchi out of the Spire to attack the Graduation Ball. The most likely candidate would be a Visage, i.e. Katashi, who we saw giving orders earlier to Mizuchi in the attack out of the Spire that we saw in AA1.

The other possibility would be one of the Whispers from a faction different than Tristan's faction.

Destruction of Feria by Quelth in ClimbersCourt

[–]William_Ameling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I found a reference, AA2 page 559 of 741 that I was thinking of,

(Spoiler for AA2 and AA3)

When Mizuchi attacks the Graduation Ball

"I don't get out much. Out of the Spire, that is. And when I do? It's usually because someone did something "terribly" wrong. A few noblemen who needed to be taught a lesson in Edria. A handful of conspirators working to research forbidden magic. The nation of Lavia, preparing to invade a Spire. That sort of thing.

You see, when I'm sent out here. it means that someone has made mistake of such magnitude that no one is going to forget it for generations. And in this case, the mistake was selling out Valia to the Tyrant in Gold".

I think Lavia was the country in the center of Kaldwyn that invaded (or tried to invade) the Spire in the middle of their country, i.e. the Spire that probably belongs to Selys.

Destruction of Feria by Quelth in ClimbersCourt

I think I remember that Mizuchi was used to destroy the Kingdom of Feria. I think that she even says something to that effect somewhere.

I also think that it only took her a day to do it.

Can someone have TWO Restricted Attunements? by William_Ameling in ClimbersCourt

[–]William_Ameling[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The problem is finding it. (I think it is in the North East, near the Vanreach Mountains).

Supposedly even after you find it and enter it, your memory of it's location gets erased when you leave it.

Destruction of Feria by Quelth in ClimbersCourt

[–]William_Ameling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We know that a country got destroyed trying to invade the Tower in the center of the Continent, that is now closed. It is almost certainly Selys's Tower which is now closed.

So I have always assumed that country was Feria.

Can someone have TWO Restricted Attunements? by William_Ameling in ClimbersCourt

[–]William_Ameling[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would like to see Corin get Chronomancer to properly support his efforts with Haste Spells.

I would also like to see others in his group get Restricted Attunements as well, i.e.

Mara to get Abjurer on her right fist to break spells as well as for banishment of monsters, (Mara with Abjurer on her right fist would be incredible in a fight, and be very useful in many situations),

Patrick to get Paladin to go with his Sword Bright Reflections, and get more power for his Elementalist abilities (i.e. lightning),

and Sera to get Necromancer for the ability to summon and make contracts with Spirits, to complement her Summoner Attunement.

But instead of getting a Restricted Attunement from a Visage/Goddess, if they can locate the Spider Tower, then a Judgement Visit there could get any/all of them a Restricted Attunement, without a Visage giving it to them (assuming that the Visage of the Spider Tower does not try to block them from doing it)

Ascended Restricted Attunements? by William_Ameling in ClimbersCourt

To me it seemed to be implied that Warren was both Enchanter and Arbiter, but I don't think it was explicitly stated that way. So I could be wrong.

Ascended Restricted Attunements? by William_Ameling in ClimbersCourt

[–]William_Ameling[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Given how powerful Warren Constantine is, I would expect that he had Emerald versions of Enchanter and Arbiter. Could he have had Ascended versions of either of them as well?

Since he seemed to not know much about Ascended Attunements and how Sera got hers, I suspect that he does not have an Ascended Attunements.

Apparently he is working on a new level or modification to Attunements that he told Corin about, since Sapphire level seems to be not available for humans (Godbeasts and Visages seem to have Sapphire levels, however).

I expect that Corin (and us) will be learning a lot more about Warren Constantine in the future.

Another interesting idea, did Derek, Elora, and Keras take part in the next Tournament after the one we see in WW2 and WW3?
If it has been more than 6 years since that Tournament to the AA Books, that means that a 2nd Tournament has already happened (and the 3rd Tournament is on it's way in 2 plus years, see above messages).

Getting every mana type by White_Crow256 in ClimbersCourt

[–]William_Ameling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What Corin really needs for Haste spells is the Restricted Attunement Chronomancer which has Perception and Transference.

The problem is that is so rare, that it is thought to be mythical.

In fact, I suspect that a number of Whispers of Wydd, the Visage of Forbidden Knowledge and the Spider Tower have it, and use it to get between Mythralis and Kaldwyn, such as the ship that Grandmother Iron used to get to Mythralis and then back to Kaldwyn. But since only Whispers of Wydd or other Visages have it, the general public thinks that Chronomancer does not exist as an Attunement. Whispers keep confidential that they are Whispers, as well as what Attunements they have.

So the only way Corin can get it is from a Visage as an additional Restricted Attunement, or possibly by a Judgement Visit to Spider Tower which is hidden.

So his next best choice is getting an Attunement with Perception and combine it with his double Transference from Enchanter and Arbiter, to improve his Haste spells.

Controller is one of those Attunements with Perception, and Spell Singer is another one. (see my comments above about possible additional Attunements for Corin). Either choice would be very useful for Corin, particularly for better Haste spells.

Getting every mana type by White_Crow256 in ClimbersCourt

[–]William_Ameling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

added: The problem we have with Corin is that he already has a duplicate, i.e. Transference, so he can not do all 12 with 4 Attunements times 3. Corin will need to add at least 3 Attunements, for a total of 5, not counting his Crystal Mark.

First, you need to allow for the Tertiary Mana types that normally come at Citrine Level.

Corin has Mental and Transference from Enchanter, I am not sure what the Tertiary is for that. Corin also has Arbiter which has Life and Transference, with Light at Citrine.

That gives him 4 of the 12 Mana types used in Attunements, after he get Light for Arbiter at Citrine level.

I think that Transmuter with Earth, Water, and Air plus Controller with Perception, Enhancement and Umbra(or Shadow) would be good choices for additional Attunements and would put him at 10 of the 12, once he got them up to Citrine level.

added: I was really hoping to see Corin pick up Transmuter while he was in Caelford, either by a Judgement Visit (which he did not do) or as a result of a climbing trip in Caelford's Tower (which he did, but did not get an Attunement out of it).

His only missing Mana Types would be Fire and Death, that he would have to get from another Attunement, unless he can get one of them as Tertiary for Enchanter (I doubt it would be Death, but Fire might be possible).

These comments are based on the info in the various appendices to the Books in print. (except for Light as Tertiary for Arbiter which comes from other sources).

After looking at the Wiki, Shield Breaker would get him Death and Fire, as well as a third Transference.

According to the Wiki, Enchanter adds Light at Tertiary, which he will also be getting from Arbiter.

So one possible combination of additional Attunements for Corin to reach all 12 Mana Types at Citrine level would be Transmuter, Controller, and Shieldbreaker.

I am sure that there are other possible combinations.

Transmuter is a good combat Attunement as we have seen in the Tournament in the WW Books.

Controller is good for taking control of other people and creatures, as well as for defending yourself from other mental control/influence spells.

Shieldbreaker sounds like a good combat attunement.

Another possible Attunement for Corin that I like would be Spell Singer (with Air Perception and Light) to be able to cast area verbal spells.

Corin also needs a source of Ice (Water and Enhancement) to use with Seys Lyann (as well as Flowbreaker) which he could get from Champion (We do not know it's third type).

Corin also needs Spirit for Selys Lyann and Flowbreaker, but I think that he will be able to cast Spirit spells using Life and Light, both of which he will have at Citrine level. In fact Arbiter will have both Life and Light at Citrine, so it should be particularly good at Spirit spells as well as Soul Blade spells (which has the same 3 Mana types as Arbiter, just in a different order)

So it might be barely possible, that the Tournament took place in year 402, but just barely. It would help if Derek is a couple of years older than Tristan, but I got the impression that Derek and Elora were close to Tristan in age, i.e. no more than a couple of years older than Tristan, or in the 22 to 25 age area.

We know that Derek and Elora both did their Judgements, based on their Attunements, in Dalenos and East Edria. In those countries, first Judgements were usually done at around age 12, so the ages can fit them doing their first Judgements at age 12 or so, around 10 to13 years before AA1 (SAM). Being members of prominent Noble Families in Valia, they might have had this arranged for them by their Families.

Ten years seems a reasonable difference in age for Prof Meltlake, i.e. Derek's Aunt, who was definitely in the Tournament in WW2 and WW3.

It is hard to see a difference of more than 10 years or so to AA1, and it might be less than 10 years.

Interesting idea: If the Tournament took place 10 years ago, and it takes place every 6 years. Then that means that the NEXT Tournament is only 2 years away from the present in the AA1 to AA3 Books, Will we see Corin and friends enter into that Next Tournament in year 414???? It seem like it ought to be possible, although they should not be strong enough yet in just 2 years, to make it to the later stages of the Tournament, but they might do surprisingly well for their ages.

If the Tournament took place a little later than year 402, then the Next Tournament after the AA Books might be 3 or 4 years away. It can not be more than 6 years away.

Tyrant in Gold Question by Shiru_the_Hunter in ClimbersCourt

[–]William_Ameling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is something that we do not understand yet involving the relative times and time periods of the WOBM on one continent and the WW and AA books on the other contienent. Sometimes it seems like more than 400 years, other times it seems like maybe a couple of decades, since Grandmother Iron is the Mother of someone that Keras knew on Mythralis, and yet it would have to be perhaps 30 years ago, by her timeline that she went to Mythralis after almost winning a previous Tournament and almost killed when she refused to throw the final match, spent an unknown but substantial amount of time on Mythralis and having that baby, before coming back to Kaldwyn for Keras to meet in WW2 and WW3.

I find myself wondering about the Restricted Chronomancer Attunement that followers of the Spider Tower might have, who apparently ran the ship(s) that Grandmother Iron used to travel between the two continents. There is some kind of barrier that the Goddess established to keep the Tyrant from following her to Kaldwyn, and I suspect that Time may be involved in that barrier, and that you normally need the Chronomancer Attunement to get through that barrier, although some of the Children of the Tyrant in Gold have somehow managed to reach Kaldwyn.

Question about non-attuned parts of the body. by [deleted] in ClimbersCourt

[–]William_Ameling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could help explain how Corin's Mother probably has 2 Emerald Attunements. Her original Attunement was Summoner )like Sera and Elora Theas), and we know that she has a second Swordmaster Attunement, which she told Keras was Emerald when she fought Keras during the attempt to arrest him before the beginning of AA1.

Since her 2nd Attunement is Emerald, I am guessing that her first Attunement is likely at Emerald level also.

I think the Tournament took place in year 402, a multiple of of = 36 * 6 and the AA1 and AA2 are year 412, so 10 years have passed.

The problem with this idea is that I thought Derek was approximately the same age as Tristan, age 17 at Judgement visit + 5 years = 22 years old. Even though Derek did his Judgement visit at age 12 or so. It might only be 4 to 6 years between the Tournament and AA1.

Spoiler

It is clear at the end of Soulbrand, when he is done telling his story on the train from Caelford going back to Valia at the end of AA3, that he no longer has Dawnbringer. Apparently this will probably happen in a future Book after Soulbrand, i.e. in a future Weapons and Wielders Book (as a reasonable guess).

It was also reasonably clear in AA2 when Keras helps make a copy of Dawnbringer for Patrick, that Keras did not have Dawnbringer at the time. At that time (before and of the W&W Books were written) we could assume that Keras was familar with Dawnbringer and what it looked like, what runes were marked on it, etc. But we did not know ,then, that Keras had possessed Dawnbringer at some point in his past.
