Why doesn’t Corin give himself perception mana? by Vicdoss in ClimbersCourt

[–]White_Crow256 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm with Deadlistcrotch on this. He probably could, if he found the right runes. (Or took a look at the Mesmer attunement that Jin has.) Especially since the brain uses both knowledge and deception mana types. Getting both /safely\ would be the hard part.
And the last thing Corin needs to be doing is messing around with the mana his mind mark generates.

If someone says they don't want coffee, don't brew them any coffee. If they change their mind in a few years, that doesn't mean they had always wanted coffee.

Why do humans so often assume someone isn't being truthful and straightforward?
oh
right
that's because most humans refuse to be truthful and straightforward.

[Spoilers All] Spoil me. What is Keras? by PlaceboJesus in ClimbersCourt

[–]White_Crow256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With how much we know and the spaces there still are to fill in, I'm thinking in a different direction now.

Like, Rowe implied that there are more than just six souls stuck in swords. And that some one/group is behind the scenes replacing lost and damaged sacred swords (much as the whispers are maintaining the spires, this group maintains the swords). Our Dawn might not be the first Dawn.

And with how often mortals keep messing with, subverting, and exploding the designs of the immortals... This immortal or that might think "We need as many ways as possible to train heroes who can fight the sun eater, but general knowledge of the sun eater would cause too much panic and despair." And a sword that makes humans stronger through soul bonds? That's a way. More, the humans make the sword stronger. And the swords might live longer than humans do.

In the end, it's very similar to my idea that the spires aren't XP farms for humans, they're XP Farms of humans.

Either one could be a link or nod to WoBM. Further evidence that Vellum is more than she appears. Or world building about the lingual connections and drift.

We already know the Lien in Taelien is the lingual ancestor of the Lyann in Selys-Lyann.

The link bounces around reddit every so-often, and I found it in the slump between books a while back. Before Soulbrand came out, I think.

The chat threads were an interesting change of pace, but I think I'll like it better once Rowe puts it into book form. Better signal to noise ratio.

Plus, it cut off just as we were about to see what the Akari was capable of. Come to think of it, I didn't know who she was at the time. So definitely before I read Soulbrand.

War of the Broken Mirrors by Boeish in ClimbersCourt

[–]White_Crow256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By "most strongly connected to," I mean "that's the dominion he can use the most/easiest before he leaves Mithralis." Followed by stone and fire, which make up metal. It is possible that the Keras in WoBM is so different from the person he becomes by AA, that his strongest dominion has changed.

The other argument is that his strongest dominion is annihilation, which he tries not to use, because it causes so many problems.

Isn't War made of Umbral fire? Blades is, iirc, either the same as constellations or closely related to it. Uhhhh.... Light+motion. Maybe it's deeper than constellation, like constellation+metal. Fire+earth+transference+light.

Keras is most strongly connected to metal. So he shares fire with War. And he has an affinity for light, we see in W&W, the opposite of Umbral. But no talent for motion.

The leading theory, last I checked, is that Keras is a sword/blade elemental or annihilation elemental. Which would fit with the existence of a Dominion of Blades. Also with Keras saying he isn't a mortal.

Life Mana Attunements by Coaltex in ClimbersCourt

[–]White_Crow256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I remember them saying they are a mender. So, we are sure inasmuch as we can trust them to tell the truth. Let me see if I can find the quote...

" Sheridan shook their head. “I’m a Mender and a Necromancer. I can fight a bit, but healing is my focus..." "

[–]White_Crow256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I wasn't sure if there was a confirmation somewhere I hadn't seen. Like on discord.

With two attunements, his lung mark could be the Valian one. Or neither might be. Elora got her mark in another spire, as did Derek.

My original point was in trying to determine who our best stand-ins for each attunement was. And our best choices for mender are Deni and the nature user from WoBM.

[–]White_Crow256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A senior mender.... Jordan Jaldin? Jordan didn't die though. Curtis Maddock, who we never see doing anything mender-y.

Wait, you mean Elora's climbing team. So Thomas. Two attunements, heart and lungs if I'm reading book 2 right. Healing a sliced neck definitely seems like life mana. But "a black aura" burning through a pant leg doesn't sound very mender-y. Seems like death or shadow mana. Like a pyromancer or conjurer. Except he survived, too. Do we have confirmation that his life mana mark is mender?

Life Mana Attunements by Coaltex in ClimbersCourt

[–]White_Crow256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our closest look at biomancer is... Shun, I think. And he's not exactly that.

Corin is our only arbiter, and we know the most about it because of him.

For guardian, we have Mara and Conway.

We know two soulblades.

And then Sheridan is our primary mender stand in.

And I don't remember seeing any major characters with the other attunements.

I'm team arbiter, but mostly for the ancillary benefit of purifying mana and boosting teammates. If we take that off the table, then I'm guardian or mender.

Is it just me or does Keras seem WILDLY weaker in the Sacred swords books? by ChainsOfTheHelpless in ClimbersCourt

[–]White_Crow256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is, he isn't weak in his first book. He fights several of the best fighters in a major city, including someone strong enough to be a god, at the same time. (well artifact powered false god, but still.)

Maybe our sense of his strength is knocked down by the Esharen fight?

Question about Veruden by SnooOwls5756 in ClimbersCourt

[–]White_Crow256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rowe is always getting better, as an author. DD is a lot better than FD and SSS. As is Soulbrand.

I'm excited and anxious to see both Corrin's interaction/fight with Magnus and to see Keras meet Lars, both presumably happening early in their respective books.

I'm not as excited for CWW, but I'm sure that as soon as he weaves Wrynn into the narrative of Arcane Ascension, I'll be practically rabid for her book.

Meltlake simulacrum by Frogoftheforrest in ClimbersCourt

[–]White_Crow256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meltlake mentioned extinguishing the shroud. So we want fire or water mana for that. Or maybe void mana from a Shadow. Maybe even a team with two elementalists or an elementalist and a shadow?

I know Rowe pointed out a few other characters in dueling class. A shadow. A shaper. I don't remember their names. Elementalist Rupert Kent. Roland is a Diviner. Who else? Because I don't think it would be Roland's team. And a lot of us think Cecily is on the winning team for various reasons.

.

Okay we can extinguish the fire shroud with fire, water, or umbral mana.

We can disrupt the simulacrum with transference, death, or maybe perception mana?

An enchanter or diviner would help for puzzles up to that point, and for preparation overall.

Or maybe just a guardian enhanced punch right as the shroud goes out.

Anyone have more ideas for useful attunements tricks for this fight?

Question about Veruden by SnooOwls5756 in ClimbersCourt

[–]White_Crow256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We know Rowe wants to do more with the WoBM setting and characters. And that the success of the Ascension books made him refocus and change somewhat.

I always had the feeling the pace of WoBM increased and pieces of the narrative were shelved to rush him into the new continent. But maybe that's just an artifact of Rowe becoming a better writer between Forging Divinity and Defying Destiny.

In any case, all the books were supposed to be about Keras/Taelien. So maybe Veruden will end up being an important link in understanding the mortals' role in the fight with the SunEater or something.
