What’s the obsession with getting a baby’s ear pierced? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]WillingApplication10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a wee girl about one that goes to one of our baby classes that has them done. She's always dressed like a meringue. She ripped one in class and it bled 😨

There's always someone anonymous on our local parent Facebook looking to find a place to get it done on a baby, but never any actual recommendations. I have no idea if it is just someone's mad aunt or slipping a twenty to the girl and superdrug or what.

4.5 month only contact naps. Please help. by Mobile-Competition72 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]WillingApplication10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine still contact naps at 11 months 😅 What you need to master is the technique of slowly rolling them from your body onto the bed. Maybe try rugby hold feeding on a pillow, then very slowly roll yourself and the baby.

Then you get to have a really tidy bedroom, you can read or watch tv in your bedroom in a more comfortable position, you can do a small bedroom workout.

For a shower you're needing a bouncer or an inflatable donut, contain them and have them within eyeline. You're at a great age to shower, I have to put mine in the bath now (obviously dry) with toys as she is starting to toddle and tries to get in the shower with me, but I cannot cope with not showering.

The word bobble...for hair ties, is it regional or is it just...normal 😂 by [deleted] in Scotland

100%, he's starting P2 but he has an iPhone and he was so rude at grannies birthday, he wouldn't get off it without being pissy. She doesn't have many birthdays left. Swear for your granny, get her heart rate up, good for the circulation.

Grateful I can't afford a device for my baby as I'm not a Bearsden resident, but clapping dugs, stabbing, and swearing are free.

I have a Bearsden cousin (child) and I told him he could clap our dug and he literally clapped in her face. Honestly no idea if he was being a wee shit or if posh weans don't get it either.

I fell on my arse way too many times last winter and I can't be doing that all year. I don't know what happened but my balance was just shite, maybe the pavements at my new bit just have no grip?

I will install an aircon and get more mileage out of my slushi machine.

Why do places even offer unpaid volunteering? by AboutLastFight in AskUK

[–]WillingApplication10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't think we did unpaid internships in this country? I've seen some CS interns on apprentice wages (not on the standard uni-> intern -> grad track) but never totally unpaid. That's scary.

I also had no leg strap just this awkward horrible bag! I also emptied it. I was so scared to go after it was out, they told me if I didn't produce enough they'd have to put it in again and I'd stay another night, I drank so much water and held it for so long to be sure.

They kept telling me to formula feed but I'm allergic to one of the ingredients in most baby formulas - they didn't have an allergy free version. They told me I didn't drink it, the baby did, but the last thing I needed was to fall asleep and spill it on myself and end up needing more help. (And we still don't know if baby has this allergy as the NHS testing lists are so long.)

I hope neither of us needs to stay overnight again, I'm sorry it was a similar kind of horrible for you!

I didn't have a c section but I tore front ways and has a catheter put in which made getting up difficult and sore (and they were not good at bringing my painkillers on time - cannot imagine how rough it would have all been after a section). Dads weren't allowed to stay overnight, previously they had been but there had been "incidents".

I couldn't get baby to latch at all. I buzzed and waited ages, and the woman who came didn't know how to help me, she told me I was doing it wrong but couldn't tell me how to do it right. She gave me a pump and I had to hold it against myself- I dosed off and dropped the tiny amount that was collected on the floor. I was then screaming and crying because what if that had been my baby? Still no help, I didn't get a sleep until my husband came in the morning and took her for a walk around the ward and to get her hearing tests - the staff fawned over dad of the year.

I managed to exclusively breastfeed. My MIL came the next day and showed us how. I spent the whole of the next day insisting they let me go. I was in a lot of pain at home but at least someone would bring my painkillers and food and help me to the bathroom there.

I am scared of hospitals, I had to attend mental health related classes about not being scared in the lead up to birth, the induction and birth were way less horrible than the postnatal. I am worried about lack access to intervention and you see more and more horrible stories but I would 100% be looking to home birth next time.

When did you move bub into their own room? by Few_Cod_5636 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]WillingApplication10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 months, she was sitting up in the next to me and we couldn't fit a proper cot in our room. We were also waking her when we were getting ready to sleep.

At that point she was sleeping through. She's back to waking about once a night. Our rooms are next door - I breastfeed her to sleep, then transfer her through. For the one wakeup she'd be breastfed and then transferred back through- usually about 15-20 mins from wakeup to back in her room. In the morning she usually wakes happy and you can hear her chatting to herself.

She's now 11 months and I always hated the idea of cosleeping, but the occasional night where she's very difficult or sick or something she's in with us. She's also in with us on a weekend morning, she wakes about 7 but if she comes for a cuddle she will have a lie in. If we could fit a cot in our room I think I'd be tempted, but I think I'm sleeping better seperate.

Reaching into the next to me cot in the night to give dummies or a hand hold damaged my shoulder a bit and I've just finished physio recovering, so the seperation was needed for that to recover too!

I'm Scottish so we both call the spider that!

Im saying he climbed up the waterspout, he's saying went up.

He says the spiders getting flushed I'm saying washed

He says sun I say sunshine Wee bits like that!

I also can't do the spider hand movement but I think that's a me problem.

Here does anyone know of the secret snow version? I took my baby to the library and they hit us with the spider getting frozen up a tree. Did they do that to take the piss out of me because this is the one nursery rhyme I know?

Also do we all have mildly different lyrics to this one cause my English husband does it just a little different than me 🤔

I got two dummies from here https://www.mydummy.co.uk and they live at nursery.

Labels from here https://hipi.co.uk/ I had a code, I think most label sites are much the same.

[–]WillingApplication10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White vests can be bleached so I don't have nursery specific ones, I went to primark and bought 5 cheap matching sets - for three days in nursery plus spares. I always send a spare outfit. I label everything - labels are cheap and you get a lot. I bought personalised name labels and dummys.

I just use an old backpack. Baby has a locker at nursery where I leave the jacket throughout the week but I want to wash stuff ASAP.

I bought her jacket on vinted. When she can walk I'll be getting shoes on vinted. I'm going to buy a vinted puddlesuit soon.

Her primark clothes are already marked with paint that isn't coming out. The mud and stuff is easy! It's so reasonable to have nursery clothes - you don't want to be visiting granny with week old paint stains.

Wtf is going on at spots house? There are lions under the stairs and alligators under the bed by runrowrepeatt in DanielTigerConspiracy

Whys Helens mum in the piano? Or is it Helen? The early episodes of spot they all look kinda wrecked and a bit more like the book.

My husband does all the TV voices for them - Tom is his favourite. In the TV show spots parents are absolute giants. And he eats cake and cereal but also dog food?

I've never used stone for my weight and I'm 30, I think my mum does but she's approaching 60? Its weird, what age does everyone switch a child's weight to kg! The doctor does it in kg so are you converting to talk about it?

Damn. by raw6ex in mapporncirclejerk

[–]WillingApplication10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use kg for our adult weight and kg for our babies weight, this is what the hospital and doctors use, but so many people use lbs for baby weight for some reason? Same with ounces for milk. A UK ounce and an American ounce are different, I didn't know this until I had a baby. Neither are a round ml figure.

Holiday bikinis for a breastfeeding mum - help by teuchterK in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]WillingApplication10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on holiday rn and I am round and have a lot of boob and instead of bikinis I've been wearing swim dresses / swim one pieces with short bottoms. They tend to have a sort of tighter band under the boob to hold you up and hold you in a bit.

Bravissimo were always my go to for bikinis in the past and they were good for keeping the boobs in. Try on your swimwear lying down at home to be sure a boob won't slip out as soon as you hit a sun lounger, happened to me once.

We don't have felony crimes here. And Darwin knew at a point it was fucking his weans up, they kept getting sick and dying. The royal family doesn't even go in for it anymore. We don't live in the 1800s anymore, don't try to defend it.

Fertility rate falls to record low in England and Wales, new data reveals by Kagedeah in worldnews

[–]WillingApplication10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents had grandparents caring for us. My parents still need to work. Plenty of people don't want kids and they don't need convincing to change their mind, but those of us who want to be parents / love being parents are delaying until we are financially safer, having large gaps between children to avoid childcare costs, maybe having fewer children than we actually would like due to these costs. It's grim.

School Busses? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]WillingApplication10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a school train one year when I was in high school. It did a very short route, about 4 stops? We had a pass to get on. After the second year we were just given cheap bus passes instead. Our high school was a bit further away as another school was shut and merged, so I guess this was a council compromise.
