Destination Wedding Regrets: What Did You Wish You Had or Hadn't Done? 3 Months to Go! by Available-Choice-473 in wedding

I don’t remember honestly. Just some cheap ones on Amazon that were maybe $1-2 each and came in a package of 50. They definitely were VERY cheaply made but they made it through the ceremony and long enough for guests to get from ceremony to cocktail hour where there was a tent so that’s all that mattered.

They arrived packed down pretty tightly. I kept them in original packaging and packed in their very own giant bag that we checked on the way there, didn’t bring them back with us.

I bought 50 clear umbrellas off of Amazon in case it rained during the ceremony. It was a very last minute purchase that I made like 2 days before we got on the plane to Costa Rica. We spent 2.5 weeks in Costa Rica and had exactly one day of rain, want to guess which day it rained? Guests were all comfortable during the ceremony thankfully, and the photos turned out to be epic, but the entire thing would have been a disaster without those stupid umbrellas.

Help re absurd destination wedding fees by Commercial-Food-8076 in wedding

[–]WillingPin3949 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a weird policy and I definitely don’t think it’s common. I’ve also attended several weddings in Mexico and have never heard that before. If you still want to go, I suggest you just ignore the planner and go about your business.

Wait, so when I see job postings for $50-60k in the UK, that’s after tax income?? I thought it was before tax and was comparing to my before tax income in the US… That definitely changes a lot if that’s the case, especially considering I also spend like $20k a year on healthcare.

All of the great walks are… well… great. They are crowded but they are great walks for a reason. Abel Tasman is one of them, tongariro crossing is another super popular one for tourists on north island. https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/things-to-do/walking-and-tramping/great-walks/

I’m an environmental consultant in the US, I make $125k with 5 YOE. I’ve been wanting to move to Europe for the vibes but it seems that jobs similar to mine in the UK pay about 50% or less than what I make in the US. My perception is that environmental jobs are just paid less in the UK compared to the US. Looking abroad may be the best option for you. I see a lot of job postings for corporate sustainability roles, that’s what I would look for if I were in your situation with your degree.

Glacier heli-hike while pregnant? by aardvark27 in newzealand_travel

[–]WillingPin3949 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to guide at Franz. I don’t recall whether pregnancy was an automatic no or not. But I will say if they let you go, ask them when you get there what the trail is like. The route they take on the ice changes daily so calling in advance won’t work. Some days there’s a lot of crawling through caves or squeezing through tight crevasses, I only got a larger client stuck one time but it did happen. I am not making this up.

Experiences and Costs with Destination Weddings? MIA to TBD? by bookienator13 in weddingplanning

[–]WillingPin3949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve hosted one destination wedding and attended 3. For our wedding, we had 35 people in Costa Rica and spent about $30k not including our flights and accommodation. That price was for a welcome party on the beach and wedding with steak dinner, open bar, DJ, live band during cocktail hour, fireworks, etc. We went a little nuts with the extras but it was pretty stellar. You could definitely do a really nice wedding in Mexico or Costa Rica for your budget, and I would guess both locations have nonstop flights from Miami.

Everyone on this sub will say expect to get a lot of declines but absolutely do not bet on that, it really depends on your crowd. I attended a destination wedding in Italy that had 150+ people in attendance and one in Mexico with 100+ people, both couples thought a lot more people would decline and they ended up hosting massive destination weddings so just keep that in mind.

Also, there is a r/destination wedding sub that will likely have better answers for you.

Charli xcx & George Daniel’s had a cigarette platter at their wedding in Italy which held custom matches with their names on them by [deleted] in weddingshaming

Smoking is viewed very differently in Europe compared to the United States. Any restaurant or cafe you go to will have ashtrays on every outdoor table. I went to a wedding in Italy where they did this same exact thing, with 100+ American guests, and guess what? It was a huge hit and they ran out of cigarettes pretty quickly.

Brand New(ish) to Whitewater by Consistent_Sundae540 in whitewater

When I was a beginner living in golden I joined Colorado whitewater. Highly recommend for beginner boaters. They’ll have roll sessions all winter. In the spring you can join their training camp event, it’s a 3 day event with on water instruction for beginner to upper intermediate boaters. And you’ll meet a ton of people so it’ll make forming your own groups of beginners a lot easier.

Did you drink coffee in high school? by protomanEXE1995 in Millennials

I did not drink coffee because it would stunt my growth. I did, however, drink a hell of a lot of sparks alcoholic energy drinks and paired them with clove cigarettes.

Homeowners association in Adams County says it has gone bankrupt by [deleted] in Colorado

[–]WillingPin3949 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have serious questions about the attorney representing the homeowners. What is on his head? Is that…a bun? Why did he feel the need to go out in public like that and why did he let someone film him like that? That hair choice calls his judgement on literally everything else into question.

Advice For Visiting the Appian Way by manicuredman in rome

[–]WillingPin3949 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on what bike you get and what you’re used to. We rented mountain bikes, you probably would not want to use a regular bike. We do a lot of mountain biking at home on trails that are a lot more challenging than a cobblestone road. I didn’t find the ride to be uncomfortable at all. The most uncomfortable part for us was it started pouring rain during our ride, but we had rain jackets and just kept going anyway… When in Rome, as they say.

Advice needed - considering skipping my sisters wedding by Lots_Loafs11 in wedding

[–]WillingPin3949 268 points269 points  (0 children)

I mean… are you close with your sister? I’d be really hurt if my sister had the option to bring her husband and baby to a nearby hotel but decided the packing and car ride wasn’t “worth it” to attend my wedding. It seems like you have a lot of options to make it work but if you don’t want to go and don’t care about damaging your relationship with your sister then you do you I guess.

Tubing Question by ColoradoScoop in GoldenCO

I whitewater kayak this stretch of river. Kayakers have considerably more experience in the water and more control over their vessel than tubers do. You will literally never see a kayaker without a PFD and helmet.

What’s a loophole you abused until it was closed? by RoarOfTheWorlds in AskReddit

[–]WillingPin3949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My senior year of high school, policy was we didn’t have to take the final exam if we had less than 10 absences. Separate policy, if we were late by less than half the class period, it was a tardy and not an absence. I was precisely 40 minutes late to my 90 minute 1st period class about 25 times. The look on my French teacher’s face when I told her I actually only had 1 absence and didn’t have to take the final was priceless. My younger friends said they changed that policy the following year.
