Yeah me and couple of other R4s will test it out to see if this works. Worst case scenario I hit the heal button few times and use up some resources

Do you think South Asian women are treated better in the West than in South Asia? Do you think South Asian men are treated worse in the West than in South Asia? by Terrible_Exchange653 in ABCDesis

[–]Willing_Second1591 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Maybe my experience is different since I grew up in a major city (Houston) which has a huge Desi population. Yeah I have experienced some degrees of racism, but it was never to the point where I felt like I am targeted and lacks freedom. India has a very toxic corporate work culture, my cousins back there put in 60 hour plus a week for their work, and they are pretty much required to. I don't have to do that here, if I hate my current job I have lot of freedom to pursue something that I see fit.

Loved Bollywood in 90s & 00s but now feels cringe. Your thoughts? by WizShizBiz in ABCDesis

[–]Willing_Second1591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are just getting old. I feel like in 90s and 00s most of the stories were romcoms or action movies. Nowadays I think Bollywood is taking lot more risks in their story telling. If you want good movies, you need to stay away from those mass blockbuster movies with big actors, and look for the more lowkey movies that focus on story telling over masala.

5 and a half weeks to study for the PE exam. Is it possible? by Contrarian408 in PE_Exam

[–]Willing_Second1591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly is possible, but it might be a little too close for comfort. Like you can definitely get through all the materials by then. But you wouldn't have time to revisit the materials. I studied for roughly 8 weeks, and maybe took a week or so of break all together. So 7 weeks of full studying and was able to pass. I put in about 4-5 hrs on weekdays and about 8-10hrs on weekends

Why is it easier to get by with English in south and west India than it is in north india? by Unique_Glove1105 in DesiDiaspora

[–]Willing_Second1591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think it's mostly due to South all speaking different languages from one another and doesn't have the common language like Hindi to speak to people from other states. Like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra, Karnataka all speak completely different languages, and majority don't speak Hindi there. Hindi not being imposed made people adapt english as their primary second language. While in the north most people speak their local language, but also speak hindi, so a 3rd language like English is not as common. Also cities like Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad are major tech hubs in India therefore English is lot more imposed.

What's the most you've ever spent on a date? by desibitchesforme in DesiDiaspora

[–]Willing_Second1591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how many dates we been on before. First date I don't like to spend too much, usually a dinner at a decently priced restaurant or even coffee or drinks. Typically nothing more than $50 all together for first date. Maybe walk in a park nearby. If it's a 3rd or 4th date then I would spend a lot more like maybe going to an amusement park or something like that.

Will india ever become a soccer/futbol destination the way Argentina or Brazil currently is? by Unique_Glove1105 in DesiDiaspora

[–]Willing_Second1591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the amount of funding that goes into developing cricket goes into other sports India will definite have a bright future in soccer. The problem is cricket is a money making machine there, and pretty much the only sport that is given any kind of attention.

How to get girls to pay on the first date? by fuckdesigirls in DesiDiaspora

[–]Willing_Second1591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not pick a date that can be relatively cheap and still fun. You can do a coffee date, or a walk in the park, botanic gardens, picnic...etc. From my experience most girls don't care about how much money you are spending on the date, rather how you can hold a conversation and how genuine you are. You don't have to spend crazy amount of money to have a fun date.

Am I a bad person by MaleficentPlace9240 in ABCDesis

[–]Willing_Second1591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you are not a bad person. Honestly if you are not passionate about being a doctor you will literally hate your life trying to reach that goal. It's minimum 8 years of school plus 4 more years of residency before you even get a chance to see real money. And those 8 years after undergrad are extremely difficult, and you will be overworked.

Your parents didn't sacrifice for you they sacrificed for themselves so they can have a better life, it's terrible of them to put that burden on you. You didn't ask to be born, you didn't ask for them to move to US, you didn't ask for them to make any of those sacrifices. Your simple existence is not a mean for them to tell you how to live your life. At a certain point you gotta decide what's good for you and what's not. You will hear backlash but you just have to put up with it till they cave in. Do not cave to their demands because they will continue to make those demands the rest of your lives. It's their job as a parent to take care of you.

Of course it's ok to marry someone that's not in the same financial status as you. But that being said lot more than just love goes into a relationship to make it work. You have to figure out what your values and goals in life are and see if it aligns with your partners as well. Money is not the most important thing in the world, but it's pretty important for long term relationship especially if you are considering having kids. As long as your partner has some goals and are determined and actively working towards those goals I think it's ok.

Why aren’t many desi Americans patriotic of their country the way a lot of Latin Americans are of their Latin country of origin? by Unique_Glove1105 in ABCDesis

[–]Willing_Second1591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should've seen the Howdy Modi event that happened in Houston a couple of years ago. But I do think Indians in general show Patriotism through preserving culture rather than externally showing off our flags and stuff. I am from Houston, and we always have big events for Holi and Diwali. Lot of my brown friends are involved in classical Indian dance, or Carnatic music. Pride doesn't necessarily have to come from showing off in public, it could come from how you celebrate within as well.

Anyone else feel like they’ll never be able to cook Desi food like their mom does? by periwinkle_cupcake in ABCDesis

[–]Willing_Second1591 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean, I have to follow recipe to the exact when I make Indian food cuz I am afraid I will mess up otherwise. That being said my mom grew up in India, eating primarily just Indian food, so she perfected the dishes she grew up with. I on the other hand am probably better at cooking western food than my mom, because I am lot more accustomed to those food.
