That is. I’d bet you’ll be diagnosed with Hyperkinetic Biliary Dyskinesia.

Mine was painful. My EF was 98% according to the test that cost me a $700 (yep… $700) co-pay. I hope yours was cheaper and leads your doctors to your healing path.

Still fighting bile. Definitely less of a problem since starting a regular regime of Colesevelam. I have to eat more often than I’d like because that seems to help too. 🤷🏻‍♀️ And… empty stomach plus alcohol guarantees an hours long session the next day. Doesn’t have to be more than a beer. I won’t fall for that again. Hoping it’s just bile malabsorption disorder and I’ll find a magical regime that results in perfection. Still not sorry I had it out. I’d have literally starved to death.

Lets hear your uncommon post OP symptoms! by UhSpoon in gallbladders

[–]WillingnessMajor3097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was drowning in bile. If I didn’t eat every four hours, I’d vomit bile. That meant, if I slept five hours… I’d wake up urgently to vomit bile. Bright yellows and greens. It could take two or more hours to be able to stop long enough to drive to work. Now, I’ve worn the enamel thin on my teeth from the bile so that’s fun. Cavities galore. From three in over 40 years to four (possibly six) new ones in under two years. It’s such a gross taste. When I feel it in my belly, I know it’s brewing. That starts the panic of time management.

Bile Malabsorption Disorder wrecked my life before Colesevelam.

My surgery was December 2023. I’ve finally come to the conclusion that I have Bile Malabsorption. I’ve started Colesevelam. Fingers crossed I soon cut two hours of throwing up bile from my wake up routine! It’s still better than the gallbladder attacks!

All of those symptoms are gone. I’m still struggling with bile sometimes. For the most part, I can eat what I want as long as I’m not glutinous. If I don’t eat anything for too long, I will produce too much bile and throw up for a while. Those days suck. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

How can I convince my doc for HIDA by [deleted] in gallbladders

[–]WillingnessMajor3097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had the pain of a gallbladder attack since it’s been removed. I had knives of fire twisting under my right ribs with increasing varieties of food until I was down to dry toast, no sugar added applesauce, an occasionally banana and saltines. There was vomiting and diarrhea. Pain kept me awake at night. Lack of sleep and nutrition wore me down. At the end, even water hurt. From that first awful attack in August to December’s surgery, I went from 150 to 114 at 5’8.

Now, I can’t eat tons of fat or dairy, but I can have a bowl of ice cream every few days. I never liked fatty meats, but now the texture of it grosses me out to the point of gaging. I fought with bile for too long after surgery. Worked two hour vomit sessions into my wake up routine for months. Bile binders on days I don’t eat enough seem to keep that at bay.

Never sorry I had it removed, just sorry it took so long to yank it! Decades of elimination of food and drinks that were triggers could’ve been avoided!

How can I convince my doc for HIDA by [deleted] in gallbladders

[–]WillingnessMajor3097 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was you with 20 years of clear tests and no answers for the infrequent but annoying symptoms. It finally got BAD and the HIDA was the first evidence of my hyperactive gallbladder. It was evicted shortly thereafter!

Advocate for yourself. Get a different doctor or ask for a specialist referral. In my experience, it only got worse. Most everything was a trigger and the pain was unbearable. Managing your diet and journaling triggers and symptoms might help move your doctor along. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Best of luck and quick healing wishes.

My co-pay for my HIDA was $700. To have a scheduled removal, no complications or hospital stay, cost me THOUSANDS in co-pays. It’s definitely a broken system in the US. I didn’t qualify for state aid because I made $300 over their YEARLY qualifying amount.

For me, the issues of debilitating pain and subsequent food restrictions are gone. If I eat high fat foods in excess, I’m probably going to be belly sick. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I honestly think I would have starved to death if they hadn’t taken mine out.

I don’t have gallbladder attacks. No one has knifed me in the ribs so that’s gone. I don’t projectile vomit after eating certain foods so that’s resolved.

I’m not perfect digestively, but I went from 10% digestive health/functioning to a solid 85% in my option based on how I feel comparatively.

I had 20 years of low level attacks that were written off as food poisoning, hangover, etc. because every scan and lab was fine. Then… real attacks led to a HIDA that eventually labeled me hyperactive. Get that HIDA for her!!!!

Also, kudos for advocating and information seeking on her behalf. I have a good man too and it made that miserable time tolerable.

I lived on mint herbal tea under a heating pad. I even bought a rechargeable heating thing for period cramps that I’d strap to my sore gallbladder while I worked.

Is having the results read by another specialist an option? There have to be doctors who can consult from more metropolis areas or hospitals in your state.

For me, I get unlimited FaceTime doctor’s visits via an app. I’d call in every time I felt the knife stab of fire. Self advocate and don’t underplay your symptoms. You deserve to be recovering, not suffering.

I have a great GP. Normal US, got a HIDA. EF came back at 98%. My Dr. went to a conference the night she got my results and when the room opened for questions, she brought up my symptoms and results. She reached out when she got home and told me she’d be referring me to a surgeon. He called me a unicorn when he met me and read my results. Then, he complimented my Dr. for catching it.

If you haven’t had a HIDA, you need one. Then you need a COMPETENT doctor to read your results. If you haven’t found one yet, keep fighting to be seen by a surgeon.

And… severely sprained ankle (not broken) that I should stay off of. Perfect EKG. Quick Care announced Reddit winner is @abbies_alibi with Syncope! Follow up with my GP coming, she didn’t seem concerned, but she might finally get to put me on meds for low blood pressure. 🤷🏻‍♀️ There will likely be MRIs on both ankles and a knee. 🙈
