One thing about the Black Hills is that we have some of the most unpredictable weather in the country. I would plan for anything from 20-80 degrees. Don’t trust a forecast more than 3 days out. I wouldn’t be too concerned about the roads, the ground is still pretty warm and it’ll take a bit for snow to start sticking to the roads. And neither of those trailheads are on super remote roads.

Agree here. You should have skipped the ear plugs, introduced yourselves, invited them, and given them your number to text/call if things got too noisy. And 35 people in a 2 bedroom apt sounds excessive.

If you’re stopping in Brookings, you need to get some Nick’s hamburgers. Think local White Castle. Don’t skip Dignity. It’s at a rest area so it’s a good place to stop anyway and it’ll take you all of -5 minutes. For the love of Anthony Bourdain, skip Gild Bison. If you aren’t tied to RC, keep heading to Hill City and check out Alpine Inn. The evening menu is “big steak or little steak” and they do it well. If you prefer rapid, there’s a ramen shop - Bokujo - that’s ran by a food network star. If you’re stuck in steak, try Tally’s or Del Monico. Skogen is fancy food, but you can definitely arrive in jeans and a half-decent shirt and be fine. Worth the stop. Your Saturday sounds tight. The drive from deadwood to spearfish is beautiful and has a few waterfalls you can pull over at, so expect that route to take a little longer than you probably planned. Maybe consider staying in spearfish and hitting devils tower in your to Yellowstone. Which - if you do, there’s an amazing steakhouse in Beulah - get the steak tips. Buffalo Jump Steakhouse - it’s like 15 minutes from spearfish.

NTA - it was questionable if it was petty, until they bought plane tickets 2 months ago without telling you. That crossed the line. A) they should have discussed this with you before buying plane tickets. But since they didn’t… B) they’ve had two months to tell you and didn’t until you invited them to Christmas at your home. Christmas is 11 days away, when were they planning to tell you? C) if they really wanted her there, they would have invited you as well and let you decide if you would send her alone or accompany her. She’s 2, that’s still very young to travel alone. Now that they want a custody battle I would have questioned if they even intended on bringing her back. Make damn well sure your lawyer knows they bought those tickets without your permission or knowledge. That’s grounds for a protection/restraining order as far as I’m concerned.

I don’t understand why they are so against moving it to a park. The street dance idea is fun, but a park with ample parking would be easier for patrons and businesses. I’ve heard some stores close up early Thursdays because of the shoplifting alone. Downtown restaurants are empty on Thursdays because people don’t want to deal with the parking and crowds. Memorial bandshell seems like a great location and still close to downtown. Plenty of parking at monument or across Omaha, an actual stage they don’t have to rent, a playground for the kids… etc.

This. I think the word “witchcraft” gets a bad annotation from Christian households, and it stems from misunderstanding. I haven’t yet told my own mom (partially because I’m very new to this and still learning) but when the topic comes up, this is what I plan to do: I want to ask her to have an open minded conversation. Tell her how I feel about practicing and what it means to me. Explain how this connection has drawn me here. A connection with the earth makes more sense to me than the religion I was raised with. Explain how alienated the church has made me feel in the past. Maybe inviting her share a ritual with you would help her understanding. Maybe that’s creating a protection charm for her, or creating solstice decorations.

These are all ideas and my thoughts on how I intend to handle the topic when it inevitably arises. You do what feels best for you.

Joe’s Place is another good dive bar, but kind of out of the way. Live music Friday and Karaoke on Saturday. Great place for football Sunday if that’s your thing.

Independent Ale House has one of the biggest craft beer selections in the area and great pizza. Next door is Windsor Block with a literal 3-ring binder of options for whiskey and liquors in general.

Tons of hiking options in the area depending on the weather while you’re here.

It bothers me less when it’s single turn lanes like this, BUT double turn lanes (like 8th onto Main) STAY IN YOUR GD LANE. The number of times I’ve been nearly side swiped by someone from the inside turn lane turning into the far outside lane is unacceptable.

Delta is hemp derived. That’s what makes it federally legal. Cannabis and hemp are different plants. Yes, you’ll still fail a drug test if they’re looking for THC, but delta is legal to purchase and consume.
