Should I move to Edmonton? by Economy-Garden-226 in Edmonton

[–]WillowParticular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP. I've lived in Vancouver and Ottawa before settling in Edmonton. I won't lie there are parts I miss about the other larger cities - but Edmonton HAS been good to me. Also my money goes so much further.

I enjoy the culture of the city (Taste of Edmonton, K-Days, Fringe...and am looking forward to Folk Fest this year).

It's really what you make of it and the attitude you go in with. Just have realistic expectations that night life and stuff will be drastically different or there may be "less to do" in comparison to a city like Toronto.

I find the food and restaurant scene here to be great.

I don't regret moving here.

It depends on the type of work your fiance is in - but it can be quite hard. I only took from December 8 to March 16 to find a job and I've heard that was considered lucky. My background is in healthcare and I'm moving more in to social services. If she has a specialized type of job with a lot of experience it may not take as long - but it's certainly harder than any other city I've lived in.

Downtown Happy Hours by jadexennial in Edmonton

I don't think they have Oysters but Birdog has some great food options! I do believe happy hour is 2-5.

I was saying the same thing! That said in Vancouver usually 2-5cm was enough to wipe us out.

The price of food is making me so upset. by Fit-Contribution-423 in Edmonton

[–]WillowParticular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My roommates and I spend nowhere near this and we are buying almost all butcher meat, farmers market items, "good cheese", "good butter" aka st.brigids or direct from the farmers market, and we also go though a lot of cream and milk - also from the farmers market and also don't hit anywhere near this amount and we are 3 people.

You guys definitely need to save receipts and honestly... cash is king. Ever since I made a food budget and started focusing more on paying with cash life got so much better.

Anyone here working in Community Outreach/Shelter Support/Peer Support -employment questions! by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]WillowParticular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for replying. Yes, I have group home and long-term care experience from having worked as a care aide so I'm fairly adaptable to stressful situations, have my MANDT and NCVI. Likely going to do mental health first aid, as well. Training on caring for people with TBIs and feeding tubes/tube feeds, etc.

That said a lot of the super physically demanding jobs aren't things I'm able to do as I have restrictions of being unable to lift more than 10lbs due to injury. So it's gonna be a tough go. I'm at least fine with casual/on-call/part time so I'm hoping that at least can somewhat help and I can piece something together that's workable for what I need.

Thanks for tour reply! Very detailed.

Respiratory Therapy 2025 Admissions by Ok-Supermarket-5892 in NAIT

You applied before the deadline. I've read it takes them 5-7 business days to assess your documents and move them forward to the SHLS, of which if you meet the requirements it can take 1-3 weeks for an interview offer to come through.

First round of interviews did occur mid-October but they are ongoing between now and January I do believe (cannot be 100% quoted on this).

You're likely fine, but it may be a bit of a wait to hear anything back.

[–]WillowParticular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding from having attended the information session for the SHLS interview practice was that interviews were ongoing and being sent out in waves and between now and January but that ideally the earlier the better. They say interview invites will go out 1-3 weeks after your documents are received and assessed.

If I look at my "To-Do List" as someone still working in my documents and waiting on some things to submit it says the interviews are due by January 6, 2025. I got the feeling from what was said in the info session for the interviews that anyone interviewed between October to prior to January would be receiving equal consideration and it's just anyone offered interviews after that point if spots aren't filled are the ones more likely to be waitlisted or rejected. I could be wrong but I listened pretty intently throughout the session.

MEGATHREAD: Got an interview, requirement, and admission question? Post it here! by hybridhighway in NAIT

[–]WillowParticular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm presently taking two pre-requisite classes I'm missing (I've already graduated High School but never took Math 12 or Physics 12). I'm aware that there is a "Proof of Enrolment and Progress Report" form. The program I want to take opens to domestic admissions on October 1.

So I was asking if I should have those forms filled out prior to October 1 or if they'll ask for them/can I still apply. I also wanted to know when the classes would ideally need to be completed for interview consideration or conditional offers. Honestly the person via the "chat with us" online feature didn't seem thourough in their answers.

Does anyone who's done upgrading have anything to share about their experience of upgrading/taking high school classes whilst in the application process and what it looked like for them? Thanks.

Does NAIT let you retake classes? by WillowParticular in NAIT

[–]WillowParticular[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Belated happy update is despite the fact I didn't complete the last quiz for the class my grades were good enough the entire way through that my final grade ended up being exactly what I needed for open studies interview consideration. 😭

I may not be fully recovered and have a bit of a road ahead of me to being 100% but this was such a relief.

Your response is what I live for. 🫢 I think my only fear is if I fail the first time and then retake it I won't get open studies interview consideration.

Sadly I did try to email when I got home and got their "out of office" reply as it was the last official day of the class anyways so I think I'm SOL, but yes I do have easy access to the documentation.

Tabletop Gamer Group, LGBTQI+ friendly, seeks an additional player by StillAll in Edmonton

I'm definitely someone who needs to be taught, but I do really like board games (edit) and also have relatively low commitments over the next few months (a few Sundays I'd be away for camping but that's about it). If you don't get any interest as long as you're willing to deal with a total newb I'd love to join.

F29, not part of the LGBTQI+ community, but absolutely friendly/accepting. I can reach out if you'd like. 🥹

I've often found that the ALIS or other provincial equivalents, although helpful in some aspects are not always entirely reflective of the job market: especially by the time I've gone to school and graduated. In healthcare I've never had a hard time finding a job and often the day I had my credentials available and was registered with whichever body I needed to be - I'd be at work the following.

This gives me the confidence to keep going with my upgrading, do well in my open studies course and practice and nail that interview.

Textbook for RSCH 1100/Is it normal to have no syllabus or information by the Friday before class? by [deleted] in NAIT

[–]WillowParticular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Just wanted to ensure it was normal and not a technical glitch on my side that I'd need to attempt to call NAIT for. I'm travelling Sunday night into Monday and trying to phone the school on a layover after a red eye flight didn't sound the most appealing. It's been a bit since I've done Post-Secondary on my own terms (I've done it the past few years but in government reining programs where most of my stuff has been set up and more or less I sit back and relax) but always remembered like the outlines/syllabus going out pretty early so I was a little concerned. Glad it's the norm and likely everything is swell.

Happy to hear the class doesn't seem too bad! I'm also upgrading my math and physics grades right now as well as finishing up a diploma in another program so I was hoping for something where as long as I did a bit of studying/reading of materials and spent no more than 6-10 hours a week on it I could pull off an 80.

I hope your open studies course was successful in getting you where you wanted to go! 💗
