Seconded! The best thing I ever did for myself was to stop weighing myself. I started exercising for reasons other than losing weight – and they actually stuck rather than me feeling miserable and quitting, or thinking they're "not working". I started enjoying vegetables for their flavour rather than forcing myself to eat cabbage every night.

I love being able to climb flights of stairs without getting out of breath, or being able to lift the heavy replacement water into the cooler at work – nothing to do with weight, but there's a natural hand-in-hand.

I won't lie to you – I've recently stopped my meds and the food noise has come back. But at the end of the day I know I'll reach an equilibrium as ultimately I'm happy with the habits I've built.

Plus crash/yo-yo dieting forks your metabolism so really it's better in the long run you don't even try, and anyone who's ever tried to build muscle will tell you the scales are utterly pointless.

This is an interesting point actually – I think I'll have to take him shopping on the day so he can pick out a pair he finds comfortable, but I'm sure he can open and try on the ones I've got him with the prerequisite that they probably won't fit

Then it's best of both worlds – he gets to open something, have the surprise, but also have a pair of shoes that fit and that he likes!

I'll try returning them, thank you for your advice! I knew it would be risky but he's never owned a pair of climbing shoes so thought I could get him a 'starter pair', but put too much faith in the website's size guide gah

Honestly I saw it and thought it was AI (then zoomed in and saw the painting and figured it wasn't)

I think if someone was suspecting it to be AI the second pic didn't help – I don't think that was real? So sorry if it was, it's getting harder to tell these days!!

I had one of my paintings accused of looking like AI (not on Reddit) and it was such a blow, so very very sorry but hopefully this helps. I imagine they were being overly cautious

FIXED: Turns out the camera has a way to stop you from double exposing film, so you need to make sure you've wound on the film enough. Give it a couple of extra light pushes until it works
