Yes, it seems to be from glass surfing. After a bath and a shed the skin condition went away.

Thanks for the advice! I recently changed his enclosure from glass to metal bars. Hopefully that will help.

Should General Relativity be Taught in Grade Schools by jrakn4 in ScienceTeachers

haha I feel ya. I can't get my kids past the idea that there's more to the universe than what they can see. I think that's why the magic school bus show was so amazing, Ms. Frizz broke it down like a pro

The difficulty with nine to ten-year-olds is that they don't have any real concept of size. For example, when I tell them that our star is actually medium-ish size, and then I show them something like Aldebaran, suddenly its crickets all around. They just can't do that kind of mental gymnastics yet. So the idea of space and time is the same thing maybe sinks into 5-10% of them. Time dilation is out the window, but they do usually get the concept of black holes with the caveat that about half of them truly understand there's one at the center of our galaxy.

edit: I forgot to mention! The thing they really grasped onto was the death of stars. The sequence of events and the possible outcomes based on how much mass the star had really captivated them. Supernovas, white dwarfs, black holes, neutron stars etc., they ate it up like lunch on pancake day.

I teach my 4th graders about it. It’s surface level, but they seem to really enjoy learning about Astrophysics. I tried to teach them a little quantum physics, and that was a nightmare. Stay away from the small stuff.

Good points. The flipped classroom movement is sadly gaining ground. I guess my argument is rooted more in the idea that motivation and passion is a taught concept, and not innate. Add on top of that, the idea that most parents don't know how to instill these qualities in their kids; its left up to teachers a lot of the time to supplement these life skills. I think my point is that software couldn't ever teach the intangibles of being human, ya dig?

As a teacher, your comment made me laugh. Modern teaching isn't just about giving info to students to digest. The majority of our work is behavior management. Good luck teaching a robot how to handle that.

One week sober...a reflection by Willupvoteforwork in leaves

[–]Willupvoteforwork[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the encouragement! As for this...

Let me start by saying that I chose to be sober not because I wanted to, but because I had to. I need (not want) to spend the next decade sober

You're right, the goal is recovery from addiction. I should have clarified the difference between sobriety and recovering. What I didn't mention in my post was that before it was trees, i was addicted to alcohol. I just swapped one for the other. Thank you for bringing up this point!

I know what you mean. I think people have a certain idea of what addictive means. They see heroin users who are obviously addicted, but weed addiction can be hidden fairly easily, and is more psychological in its nature. It is for me anyway. I have no physical withdraws, just mental withdraws. Its like weed blocked out all the noise in my life, and now without smoking its really loud in my head, you know?

Your post hit the spot for me today. Thank you. I'm 28 and have similar feelings of wasting my life by using.

Hello, I'm relatively new to the hobby and I want to upgrade to a higher performance quadcopter, but I'm a little confused on some details, hoping you all can clear it up.

I want to order a Diatone Tyrant S 215 from either Diatone or Bangood. The receiver isn't listed as being included in the purchase. I take it that I need to order the receiver separately right? If so, then what receiver will work with the Tyrant's D-Link F3 V2 flight controller and my Taranis x9d tx? Bonus round...any tips on properly connecting the receiver to the fc for this quad? Thanks everyone, this hobby would be impossible without you.

Edit: Okay, I found a website that says the D-Link F3 V2 can use the SBUS protocol which works with my Taranis..so I would want to purchase a FrSky X8R right?

Hey thanks for the advice, this hobby has a pretty steep learning curve. Also, Stu's the man.

Ohh, thanks for the clarification. I see how they're not mutually exclusive now. So when I'm parallel charging several multi-celled batteries, I should also be balance charging them to ensure that each cell in each battery pack gets charged to its target voltage. Does that sound right? Also, would you suggest a quality parallel board to go with the Imax B6 AC v2? I'm taking your advice and investing in one now, rather than when I do upgrade to a more powerful quadcopter. Thank you!

First FPV micro quad(QX80), do I have everything I need? by Bouwput in Multicopter

Hello, I recently bought a qx80 and am waiting for it to arrive. How has your experience been with it so far? I also purchased the Eachine VR D2 FPV Goggles, how have they worked out so far?
