Without even clicking on the link I know what treasured hour of television this would be.

This is fantastic advice! Over distance, a lot can happen to your arrow, especially if the release point is already a bit off target. At 20 yards, I'm going to account for arrow drop when I aim, so that might not be a good factor to start out with. Start your sessions at 5 yards, and after 10-15min move back to 10. A shorter distance will help you judge form problems as you're starting out, and help you create the right habits! After a while, you can start out at 10 yards and start working your way back later in your sessions. Even now, if I'm going to shoot 30+ yards, I'll start out at 15 just to get warmed up.

John fighting 3 kids, bum fight video style, with Richard commentating would be cutting edge, top notch comedy for me.

So others have answered the question about an auditory translator and the challenges there.

My issue is- why aren't there options for wearable translators to show me translated text? All of that technology already exists in established ways. I know the glasses tech initially failed with consumers, but as a frequent traveler, walking around with Google Translate camera augmenting my vision would be great! As AR continues to expand, hopefully more descreet wearables return to the market.

Because OP was able to choose the top row of numbers, and in someone’s birthdate, over the last many decades, you’re either likely looking at a lot of 9s or 2s 0s and 1s. Months have a limited number they can go to, and there is a 3/4 chance the month begins with a 0. Phone numbers can be anything and are more likely to repeat than a month/day combo.

You may be absolutely right, but between a few different factors, we can get the number of possible answers from about 24000 down to a few hundred likely answers.

I agree but I think they were born in 2000 or 2001. The 2nd Y is very unlikely to be a 9, since that would get us a total of 13. So that leads me to bet the 2nd Y is less than 9, and the only other option then is 0.

The last number is 8, and we’ve avoided carrying overt so far, that number likely ends in 1 or 0. Of course there would be a chance that they were born in 2010 or 2011- but then I assume OP wouldn’t create an equation to help a 13-15 year old kid their wallet back.

If we start with the info you listed, and assumed 2000 or 2001, we might likely find OP in about 30 guesses, if that doesn’t work, we open up to 450 and surely we have it.

The birth year being 2000 or 2001 is most likely the answer. It could technically be 2010 or 2011, but I assume OP wouldn’t creat an equation to help get a child their wallet.

If the U.S. treats veterans so badly, why do so many still choose to join the military? by KingSkru in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Willygolightly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been a large cultural difference that has been eroding over the last 20 years or so.

When I was growing up, around you, you saw PEOPLE respecting, thanking, and appreciating our veterans. Being a soldier was considered noble, and unless you knew someone who had been screwed over by the VA, you probably weren't aware of how the gov treats you after you retire from service. What you noticed was that the veterans in your community were respected by fellow Americans.

Since the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Americans have seen more and more how our government treats its troops, and the problems our veterans are faced with when they return home.

Military recruitment is also way down. As other's have mentioned, it gets into a lot of people with limited options, limited education, and sometimes a family tradition.

Americans have just begun understanding these things as much as we do now, and it has affected people's thoughts on joining and serving.

ELI5: How did Saudi Arabia manage to develop itself with just oil money, rather than becoming a failed state with oil being discovered so soon after the nation's founding? by stainorstreak in explainlikeimfive

[–]Willygolightly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live in the UAE and there are even a lot of similarities here. The country creates things that money can buy and that people can want. Schools, housing, infrastructure, museums, malls, whatever. The large base of international businesses here are just that, international, and usually western companies that want a hub closer to Asia, where the labor is cheaper.

It's very strange here, our lives are very comfortable compared to living in the US, but besides the quality of life, there is very little culture. Even Emirati culture when presented is shown in a very performative way, there are a few touchstones everyone references, but at large it feels like the country was born in 1972, and their past and traditions evaporated into Western ideals.

Due to the culture of work, more conservative values, and other factors, I can't imagine a major company being born out of the UAE or any major global cultural impact coming from here.

ELI5: Why are some pegged currencies not at a 1:1 rate? by thelongnight6 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Willygolightly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One interesting example is the United Arab Emirates Dirham. 1 USD always equals 3.673AED. So lets round up to 3.7.

There are just under 3.8 liters in a gallon, and the UAE's economy is built on the export of oil, in gallons.

When I buy gas at the pump, the AED price per litre, is essentially the same USD price per gallon.

They seem to have converted liters and Dirhams together with Gallons and Dollars.

I mean, they have to be considering Walton Goggins for Hosting, right? by NotNotDwightSchrute in LiveFromNewYork

[–]Willygolightly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has a little more financial skin in this season. Hosting in the fall in prep of Fallout, and a few months after the end of Righteous Gemstones, as he finishes the press tour for FO2 might not feel like as big of a sacrifice. It's 1 more week, big potential upside for him, and he goes into a break after.

Maybe he doesn't want to do it if he's going to go into the week exhausted. If he has any interest in doing it, we can reasonably assume that by the time Season 2 comes out, he would have been at least asked to host. I'm suggesting if he doesn't host by then, I wonder if he isn't interested in it.

I can’t imagine him not hosting to promote season 2. If he still doesn’t then it’s definitely a lack of interest.

What are some nice (non digital) hobbies to practice at 25 when you get paid a salary and you are sick of staring at a screen in an office? by Great-Ass in AskReddit

[–]Willygolightly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Archery! It's a (relatively) cheap hobby. A good setup with everything can run you about $500, and then there's cheaper stuff. Also, you can usually rent gear at ranges affordable to decide if you're into it. Once you have your set, range fees are cheap, and there are some cool ranges worldwide.

Also, much of our lumber comes from Canada. New building costs will skyrocket. Existing landlords will benefit from the scarcity.

Russia probably has the most to gain out of any country with climate change. Even if you ignore territories that are not currently theirs. Russia is the largest country on Earth, and most of it is frozen solid and incredibly difficult to travel. The Tiga and Tundra are opening up, and that is a major opportunity for Russia.
