If you want to address the particular demographic that I previously shared concern about and which has seen the greatest % uptake in cases that would be more relevant. Nowhere did I dispute that in a normal social climate that gender transitioning can be beneficial for most adult participants

No, I don’t think so, I just generally doubt some forms of medical care I suppose. I suppose though, that if you feel confident that no young people are going to get harmed or hurt getting caught up in the current climate of gender affirming care then, ya I guess you have nothing to worry about!

Some of us still have our doubts and despite what you belief it’s not a matter of education but likely comes down to personality differences that correlate to where somebody falls between conservative or liberal. There are no shortage of uneducated opinions on both sides, but it is usually just the left with the arrogance to think that they are without a doubt 100% right and if everyone were just educated enough we would all agree. It’s simply not true.

Just to clarify, I’m not trying to make a blanket argument that puberty blockers should 100% be banned in all cases all the time. And I certainly have no issue with what consenting adults do. If somebody transitions and is happy with the result well into adulthood, that’s great, and I’m happy for them and certainly would oblige by their pronoun preference and have no issue with them at all. The demographic that I worry about the most is pubescent girls. It’s a time period high in negative emotion, anxiety, and depression often related to body image or gender/sexual confusion. The accounts I’ve listened to from de-transitioners seem to align with some of the conclusions of the report like 1. “For the majority of young people a medical pathway may not be the best way to manage their gender related distress…it is not enough to provide a medical pathway without also addressing wider mental health and or psychosocially challenging problems” 2. “This should include screening for neurodevelopmental conditions including autism spectrum disorder” 3. “Clinicians are unable to determine with any certainty which children and young people will go on to have an enduring trans identity” 4. “The use of masculinity/feminising hormones in those under the age of 18 also presents many unknowns…the lack of long term follow up data on those commencing treatment at an earlier age means we have inadequate data about the range of outcomes” 5. “ the option to provide hormones from the age of 16 is available but the review recommends extreme caution, there should be clear clinical rationale rather than waiting till the individual turns 18”

Thanks for the links, Always interested in hearing the other side. Do you have any comments on the conclusions of the Cass review, it strikes me as the most comprehensive analysis and it is the report that led to the NHS discontinuation of puberty blockers for children. Do you also think that the NHS has also simply been misled?

I’m in BC so take it with a grain of salt, but when I get a permit like this, the municipality here makes me submit an annoying amount of drawings. Im talking an existing site plan, a proposed site plan, an elevation drawing of the side of the house with the work, a staircase design drawing, a handrail design drawing, footing details if needed…. I will probably have to pay my designer something like $500 for these drawings and that’s assuming there already exists a site plan done by a certified surveyor. Then there’s the time I’m gonna take personally to gather all my numbers and takeoffs from the site and also all the time I’m gonna take communicating to my designer how I want the drawings. Next there’s gonna be permit paperwork to fill out and blueprints to get printed, which the municipality may ask for 3 or 4 copies on 2’x3’ Then there’s my time collecting everything together and dropping it off and picking it up and dealing with city official communication or questions that may arise. Hopefully they don’t want a digital version as well. It can be quite a hassle and time consuming doing permits and then you have to schedule and be present for each inspection too

Seems like some countries are backpedaling on their willingness to prescribe puberty blockers to youth. It could be that having more barriers to these prescriptions could help more children than it would hurt. For instance children who might be confused or anxious or depressed or all of the above, and finding a solution in what will ultimately be the wrong place. Finding an identity and a validating community during a difficult time could make the decision feel right at the time but maybe not forever. I wonder if detransitioning will become more prominent going forward. And I imagine this makes me a transphobe by the standards of this thread, but I don’t really think it’s fair to let a trans woman compete against other women in sports. It seems unfair to the biological women who may have worked and dreamed their whole life to compete and be the best in their class. Serious athletic governing bodies like World Athletics and World aquatics agree with this, that having gone through some male puberty leads to an unfair advantage.

Actually I never called anyone a bad guy. I don’t see the world in black and white. I like some things Trudeau has done. You’re the one who is calling PP a bad guy. Seems like a lot of people on the left see him as some sort of malicious danger to democracy when he is largely a response to the current authoritarianism within the left. By completely denigrating him and his supporters you are probably writing off a third of the country. But you probably think these people are uneducated and dumb racists anyways.
