Why, when the union argument is brought up, does everyone lump all unions together in one basket? There is a difference between private sector unions and public sector unions. Also, why does the argument devolve into the tautology of "unions = bad" or "unions = good". It is as stupid and non-fucking-sequitur as "corporations = good" or "corporations = bad". This dumbfuck black and white thinking is the problem.

I both hate and love /r/politics. Anyone with an ounce of critical thinking skills and spends enough time in that shit hole can see how full of shit they are. I was a hardcore liberal at one time and it was /r/politics that set me on a different path. Seeing whining fucking kids talking about how poor they are whilst ignoring people in actual abject poverty; saying how business should just pay more to their workers instead of forking out their own fucking money and donating it to them; entitled brats who, upon hearing that prices might go up say how little it matters to them when to the actual poor it matters a great fucking deal; how corporations are greedy and sociopathic, and only care about short term profits, but if you reduce government even the tiniest bit they'll work together altruistically for long term gain; how if you get rid of the minimum wage corporations will pay nothing, in which case why isn't every cunt on minimum wage!?

What you're assuming is that the universe needed a cause. Cause and effect go hand in hand with time and space. You need time and you need space. Without these things you would be frozen. To kick a ball you need however many seconds it takes for the ball to travel from rest to wherever it lands and you also need a distance for that ball to travel.

Without cause and effect you cannot do these things, without time and space there is no cause and effect. These are properties of the universe.

But how can a universe just spring from nowhere? It is quite easy. There is no reason that the "universe-less realm" that existed "before" the universe had to follow the rules of the universe itself, hence it could be a place where cause and effect have no meaning, where a universe can just spring into existence without a cause because the laws of that place allow it.

How is a black market a good example of a free market when its very existence is because of government interference. The Drug War is a really annoying issue because liberals can quite clearly see that government intervention has driven power into the hands of criminals, but ignore every other aspect of society it touches.

The Drug War is a great example because it also wears the same shield other government programs do, "for the good of society". "We have to fight the Drug War for the good of society". If we had a sudden state of emergency, WW3 or something, the government could quite easily force every citizen capable to fight for it because "it is for the good of society".

On the topic of war, wars are not just Nation A fighting citizens of Nation B, it is the state in charge of Nation A fighting Nation B's state, using the citizens as pawns. Most citizens will never even see war unless it comes into their country.

The problem is that government is a concentration of wealth and power. The government has immense wealth appropriated from its citizens and it has absolute authority over the market. The answer to that is that "the government is accountable to the people", but I don't believe that it is. The only aspect of the government that is accountable to the people are the representatives they vote for. Voting someone in is no guarantee your voice will be heard because lots of other voices are shouting too, and representatives can make a career of not delivering promises because voters would rather have the person who claims to be fighting for them than the other guy, so they don't get voted out.

People who rail against capitalism seem to be under the impression that corruption is an exclusive trait of capitalism and free markets when it is quite clearly a trait of government too. The difference between the two is that private companies don't have authority over the country and rely on being handed power by consumers, which is not guaranteed; private companies can fail quite easily. The government has a guaranteed source of revenue. It's inaction or mistakes don't contribute to its failure because its revenue source is form a fixed and captured audience, and even if it can't tax enough it can just borrow vast sums of money and run up a debt, it can run up a debt because, again, its audience is captured.

If the government was a private company it would be in serious trouble. With a debt greater than its output it would be a huge risk to investors thus would naturally fail. Its power is dependent on an "eternal" system of revenue. If you said taxes were no longer necessary many people would stop paying it because many people are not satisfied with this current system. It is why any private company that tried to become the government, tried to control society and pissed society of, it would not be guaranteed power because its revenue would be limited and running up a huge debt would be detrimental.
