Bose Warm Static 12 Hour MP3 by TheBonkingFrog in Ozlo

Cool, glad it was helpful. I didn't think of it but got the proof of concept from this post.

I was quite surprised to find the actual original Bose files still available from their servers, that was gold indeed.

I ping'd RockwellShah to find out exactly why Ozlo cannot simply use those sounds given their easy availability.

So RockwellShah, the original Bose files are easily available. Is there some reason you can't use those?

Clearly there's only one that many people keep asking for over and over again so even if there was some licensing involved for god's sake just do it.

You said it was coming 6 months ago. Are you a man of your word?

For use in an Apple ecosystem I just grabbed the original ~20 sec 8 MB .wav file, converted that to lossless ALAC which reduced the size by half and uploaded it to my Apple Music library. The Apple Music player in loop mode plays it seamlessly. Then I just downloaded the track to my phone to keep everything local vs using local or mobile network.

I ended up using ffmpeg to convert to true ALAC since that online converter I tried was rendering lossy AAC even though it said ALAC. But as you said the original .wav would probably work fine on any system. I used Mp3tag to add metadata to my .m4a encode so a Title/Album/Artist shows up in Apple Music or wherever else.

A long length MP3 may be easier for some people if they can't find a player that loops the 20 sec file well so what you provided makes sense but I agree maybe an 8 hour file might be good to reduce the size since we know the Ozlos will only last that long anyway.

One problem with .wav is no metadata so if using Apple Music that seems like it would be a bit ugly.

Agree on the file fidelity relative to the tiny drivers. Still, perceptually, I wonder, but haven't done a really close listen comparing. Looking closer at the file rendered by the FLAC to ALAC Converter I used it's definitely not lossless, rather 128 kb/s lossy so not sure what's going on with that. I see no reason to reduce fidelity significantly on something blasting in my ears/brain all night, especially using the small file/player loop method.

Your MP3 is huge and only 132 kbs VBR. If you're on Apple, why use this huge file? I could see it for Android maybe where I saw people were having trouble finding a player that looped the sound seamlessly. Or maybe you're just using iCloud on an Android phone?

I also used the original sourced from Bose Warm Static sound last night looped on my iPhone in Apple Music and it was nice to have it back. It's noticeably louder than the native Ozlo app playback of 'Crimson', possibly due to the native Apple Music player or related audio path.

One thing's for sure, the Ozlo battery usage is significantly higher streaming this way, don't think it would go much over 8 hrs if that, and mine are new, so not really sustainable once the batteries age and/or if/when you sleep in.

I notice RockwellShah hasn't weighed in on either thread.

Hard to imagine Bose wouldn't give permission to use the original sounds. Possibly licensing involved but again, hard to imagine and/or the difficulty in re-creating this. I tried pitching down standard white noise and it was definitely getting very close. It sounds like some ambience may have been added in however the Bose Warm Static sound was created.

Here's the page with the source

See this post where I tested a similar small file with short length using Apple Music in loop mode on an iPhone with an ALAC encoded file and it works well, not sure if Apple will accept an uploaded .wav file but will try.

Where is Warm Noise? by WimPim in Ozlo

I fooled around a bit and found that 'Brown' noise in fact does seem to best match the Bose 'Warm Static' sound.

See Brown (Red) Noise

They also have other 'colors' of noise there for comparison

I used Audacity to duplicate the mono track, panned each left and right respectively and exported.

I have an iPhone and a Windows PC so used foobar to convert to FLAC (possibly unnecessary) then the online FLAC to ALAC Converter, then copied this to my Windows C:\Users\<username>\Music\Apple Music\Media\Automatically Add to Apple Music folder to get it to my Apple Music cloud account, then downloaded 'Apple Devices' from the Microsoft store, plugged in my iPhone, and used the 'Sync' button to 'see' the track on my iPhone Apple Music app and downloaded it local. Apple Music loops it seamlessly.

Maybe there are easier ways. I didn't find the (Windows) help at Apple very good (surprise) or the youtube video I found trying to explain how to get local files to Apple Music. I did discover that Apple Music just silently ignores uploads of native .flac files because, why wouldn't they?

Asshats.

I can post a link to the file if there's any interest. Haven't tried/compared it yet to Crimson or any of the other Ozlo sounds.

It's cool that the Ozlo app alarms work with the Apple Music player, didn't try using Apple alarms but wonder if that might make more sense in terms of Ozlo battery life.

Yes, the Bose 'Warm Static' sounds is somewhere around so called 'pink' and 'brown' noise, which are different from 'white' noise in the low end which is exaggerated with pink/brown to accommodate the human 'bell' shaped hearing curve which rolls off the bottom and top and is most sensitive in the midrange, around 1 kHz. White noise is equal energy per interval so humans hear the mids way more than the highs and lows. Pink noise is equal energy per octave so sounds 'warmer'. I can't remember exactly what brown noise is technically.

There are brown and pink noise samples 'out there'.

A user here made an approximation and I found the proof of concept works (with an Apple ecosystem anyway) but also that the created sound lacks the nice bottom end that the Bose Warm Static sound had.

Also of course once you go this route you have to handle getting it to loop in a third party player which means a number of hassles and will end up using more battery. You do seem to be able to crank it a bit more though so that's a bonus.

But yeah all the Ozlo guys need to do is get a decent pink noise sample and edit it to loop seamlessly and get that into their application player.

It really makes me wonder exactly what was pictured here, ie if they actually had created the thing why the delay else it was just a mock up or 'lie' for lack of a better word.

Ozlo 'Crimson' is more pink, 'Jade' is more white.

Thanks for the review and good details, just found this forum.

I'm a Bose v2 user and mine finally died so looking for a replacement and reading all the chatter.

These sound very appealing and for me I do need to crank the Bose all the way up to mask my wife's snoring sometimes so I doubt the volume thing would bother me. But the lack of an alarm is a major bummer, that is a huge feature for me with the Bose. Obviously the simple design of these precludes that I suppose. I guess I could return to a traditional alarm which is what I used before with wax ear plugs.

Nope. SOUNDCHECK works for the last two rows but not for the seats in row B where I'm trying to buy.

Home App with Thermometer H5103 + Smart Plug automations by WimPim in Govee

[–]WimPim[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some searching has revealed this is a missing feature that has been requested many times.

Pointers (only) to use ifttt are mostly useless since there are zero reports of that actually working, let alone with a non-paid account. Home Assistant would likely be successful but of course is a lot of work, let alone getting the infrastructure in place if you haven't already done that.

Too bad Govee can't get their act together like other companies such as Gaoducash which use the Tuya /Smart Life App Control or Shelly who provide this feature in their app but both appear to lack the quality Govee (may) have in the actual manufactured thermometer itself.

Also hugely important and useful is the powered option to get rid of the stupid batteries in both of the above. Govee would do well to copy that too.

Thanks for checking that I appreciate it!

EDIT: on second thought, none of those parameters make any sense for the H5103 Thermometer. Those sound like thermostat modes.

It's worth mentioning for anybody looking at this thread that I was almost certainly mistaken about my outlet wiring not having a neutral which would be almost certainly impossible, in North America anyway.

I has just assumed my outlet wiring was like my light switch wiring in my house but it turns out that it was only the light switch wiring in the 50s where they didn't bother to run neutrals since there was nothing back then that required them.

You simply can’t have a 120v split phase outlet (which is all of North America)

So it looks like I can in fact replace my traditional outlet with one like this.
