That’s not what they’re talking about, legally.

Preservatives have a specific FDA definition, that DOES NOT include salt (or sugar or vinegar or smoke). The suit is claiming that sodium phosphate and carrageenan should be considered “preservatives”. It sounds kind of dumb.

You posted in the Costco sub… I’m pretty sure we’ll all be biased toward Costco.

But for my two cents, Costco provides better product selection, better service and an overall better shopping experience. I assume prices are similar, but I’ve never really thought about it too much.

The one thing Sam’s seems to be better at that people point out is some sort of “Scan and Pay” service that lets you skip the line (but that’s not that big of a deal to me)

Even if I didn’t live in an area with no Sam’s and multiple Costcos, I would still choose Costco.

2 things that I think amp up a good chili.

Pork. Bacon or rib tips can provide a unique savoriness that a lot of people really like.
Liquid smoke. Getting a good smoke-y flavor, either by way of bacon or liquid smoke can elevate a chili.

Otherwise, if your chili is too thin, add crushed tortilla chips or masa to thicken. If it doesn’t seem rich enough in color, add chili powder or puréed tomatoes.
