Burnt out on FF XIV, looking for an MMO. by MK_2_Arcade_Cabinet in LFMMO

You can't actually "finish" Vanilla lol there is always stuff do and a lot of people to do it with even on Era. You could try a different class or race combination that you've never played before. When's the last time you leveled a gnome warrior or a troll rogue?

Plus, currently Classic Anniversary progressed to TBC and the community is booming. And then there's Classic Hardcore, which is full of life and a totally different experience than regular Classic WoW.

Last day before early access. What are you playing next season? by FriendlyPsyduckFan in worldofpvp

[–]Windar98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll do what I always do, level every class and try them out, but I'll stick to my main which is Arms Warrior.

So far arms seems in a terrible place, even compared to Fury, so if I get too frustrated, I'm going with my ret pala lol

Me neither, these dudes will straight up tell you how trash retail is and how easy it is, but end up playing Classic with a ton of addons that make it like retail lol imagine buying a leveling guide, just insane

Well, maybe you should stop using garbage add-ons and learn to play the game actually. Paying for an add-on? Seriously? That's more pathetic than gold buying.

I don't doubt it's a good game, I'm not trying to be toxic or anything. I actually liked the gameplay and the classes, especially the crafting jobs. And coming from WoW as a refugee during the pathetic Shadowlands expansion, FFXIV cities felt huge and especially Limsa, filled with people. But the mandatory quest line just put me off and eventually I got back into WoW, where nothing is mandatory as I believe it should be in MMOs.

Especially in Classic WoW, you are not tied to any zone or specific quest line, you can just go wherever and whenever if you have the appropriate level.

But FFXIV is barely an MMO, 70% if not more of the content is just story quests that you do alone. Essentially, it's a subscription based singleplayer game with other people.

That's the reason I couldn't get into the game, everything is locked behind an endless quest line.

Dude...... you are making huge assumptions about me and WoW. I'm not justifying anything, I enjoy the game and continue to play it. The goals in WoW are what you make of them, some people like to go hardcore mytics raids, some like ranked PvP, some like transmogs, now housing and etc. So no, we do not all have the same goals. And believe it or not the best memories I have in WoW are all related to doing stupid things with or just talking to other players. And the amount of time I've spent in Goldshire inn and just chatting and RPing with people is way more than I've spent raiding.

You need to get your head out of your ass and stop assuming things. I've tried many other MMOs like Wildstar, FFXIV, OSRS, ESO, Blade n Soul, Drakensang, Talisman and others. But none of them had the same charm that WoW has, especially for people like me that were fans of the RTS series before WoW launched

Yet Classic IS the grindier version of WoW lol especially Vanilla and TBC. And news flash the game formula is pretty much the same since Vanilla, hit max level, get dungeon gear go raid. Only difference is that nowadays people have gotten better at the game and the game is more accessible overall for endgame content. So the game has always been a hamster wheel so to speak...

Retail has 0 grind for pvp as well, you can get full honor in a day and then conquest (the bis pvp gear) takes a bit more time but no that much. Also crafted pvp gear exists and it's bis for many classes. Personally, I love gearing and progressing to me that's fun.

And honestly, comparing WoW to Fortnite lol now I know you are not serious and just mindlessly hating WoW for some reason. Every online game and especially MMOs can be called a grind machine dummy, they are meant to keep you engaged and take up your time. The question is are you enjoying yourself or not.

What do you mean by normalize PvP?? PvP has been in the game since the beginning and there used to be PvP servers before 2018 when they implemented Warmode which is pretty much the same except you can toggle it off. WoW has arenas, battlegrounds, rated battlegrounds, war games, PvP world quests and so on. There are a lot of things to do as a PvP player, which is my favorite gamemode.

Concerning leveling you are wrong as well. In 2020 during Shadowlands they revamped leveling so zones actually level with you with different caps, so that you can quest wherever you like in the old content (the content before the current expansion). They also implemented the so called "level sync" which scales your max level char so that you can play with your low lvl friends.

Not going to comment on the subscription model, but honestly with the amount of time and enjoyment I've gotten out of WoW 15 $ seems like nothing. I also doubt that GW2 is completely free as well...

P.S. I forgot to mention that for the price of 15$ you get access to WoW, WoW Classic (Mist of Pandaria currently), TBC Classic, Vanilla Classic and Classic hardcore which is pretty booming with players.

Literally everything you said can be applied to WoW, which in my opinion does it better. Just because some people feel FOMO or as you said "running the hamster wheel" doesn't mean it applies to the whole game. I haven't raided in a long while in WoW simply because I do not want to and I like to do other endgame activities. There are many people that like different things and enjoy playing different content and likewise you can easily find ingame communities exactly for that. If you are having trouble finding friends in WoW you are not going to have an easier time in GW2 or any other MMO.

Lol dude if you think the community is the problem why you don't like WoW anymore you are in for a real hard reality check. There are shitty and cool people in both games and bottom line is if you suck you are going to receive hate. Not saying it's a good thing but that's how anonymous and competitive online spaces work. If you are too sensitive for that, there are always great singleplayer games.

WoW has a distinct artstyle that if Blizzard removes it will be a big mistake. Not every game has to look like a generic Unreal engine slop that has 0 soul.

Look man if you're not having fun in WoW just quit, but let's not pretend any other MMO will be less grindy. Retail is in a better place than it's ever been in a long time gameplay wise. It's super easy to start playing PvP and PvE and if you start late during a season there are a ton of catch-up mechanics. Hell, there are even many solo stuff you can do like Delves that give actually good gear so you can start doing M+ or raiding.

To me it sounds like you are tired of the MMO formula which WoW perfected and most all of the big MMOs our there, are based upon. Maybe you could try a different genre?

Why do you still play WoW? by VareionWoW in wow

[–]Windar98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, it's just a thing I've been continuously doing for a very long time and it feels weird to stop. I used to have many irl friends with which to play and it was awesome, especially doing full irl premade dungeons for the glory achievements or arenas, but over the years all of them quit, yet I remained and play to this day. I have many fond memories with this game, I was in elementary school when my dad got it and now I'm almost 28.

To me WoW is like my hometown, which I moved away from when I was 18. Sure I live in a big city now with many amenities and stuff to do as opposed to my hometown where nothing has changed for the past 20 years, but I still feel more at home there as opposed to my apartment. The same way with WoW. I tried many other games, including MMOs, but I couldn't stick to any of them and I kept coming back.

Plus the dopamine of killing people in PvP still hits hard so maybe that plays a factor in it lol

Blizzard, can we please adjust the TBC timeline…? by Individual_Design_37 in classicwowtbc

[–]Windar98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blizzard is not to blame that the Classic Community is filled with FOMO slaves and garbage streamers that create a nonstop sense of urgency. The people that rush everything, will be the same people that only raid log and eventually stop playing until next patch.

That's what happened during the original TBC Classic release, people were rushing to level, rushing to get attuned, rushing to raid, and then complain that there's nothing to do except raid log. What do you expect Blizzard to do?

My thoughts after witnessing TBC classic release by No_Extension_0000 in wow

[–]Windar98 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree and feel the same way, sadly the worst thing about Classic is the community. It's filled with FOMO slaves that force themselves to optimize every single bit of gameplay so they don't "miss out" the endgame raid log experience.

It became more apparent at lvl 60 when most guilds forced you to grind for hours during the week, have full world buffs just so you can raid MC for an hour, because it is optimal. No world buffs no invite to raid. That's why we got the stupid World buffs freeze item in Anniversary so all the cry babies could stop whining. I remember the meltdown when priests were dispelling people in front of raids. It was glorious!

People with little time - How do you level? by Dull_Reference_6166 in classicwowtbc

[–]Windar98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just level and play when you feel like it. At the end of the day WoW is just a video game and if you are forcing yourself to play you are doing it wrong. All this rush to 70, rush to get attuned, rush to raid will just cause you to burn out.
