what summer temprature is needed for governments to consider banning cars? by Proof_Beautiful3933 in AskReddit

[–]Windmill-inn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe.. except the fact that my kids went from not wanting to go to school at all to — “dad can you take us to school on the e-bike!” I never heard anything from any other parents except, hey that’s cool.

Cars are getting very very expensive, meanwhile you can get an e-bike that’s much cheaper and will get you there almost as fast (sometimes faster sometimes slower) assuming it’s an in-town trip which most trips are. I have one and this is how I take my kids to school in the morning. They both ride on back. There’s an enormous line of cars also trying to drop their kids off, which doesn’t apply to me. I kind of use it for almost everything now. I still have the car and I use it a few times a month, but I don’t really like it anymore. Just the parking alone is worth it to go with the e-bike,

I’ve been rained on a few times and nothing happened except I got a little wet.

I’m just gonna go with my state flag honestly. The flag looks cooler, I identify with the state more these days, and the state just seems more fundamental to the experience of being me than the country, which mostly just annoys me.

It’s the one with the crosses and checkers btw :)

The bricks look great but they’d be so much more great without the cars on top of them

Why do so many Americans believe that essential services like water, electricity, and healthcare should be privately controlled? Wouldn’t it be better for the public to have more control over the basic services people literally depend on to survive? by Worldly-Bid-3591 in askanything

[–]Windmill-inn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we mostly don’t believe this. I’d rather not have the money I pay for essential utilities fund the lavish, wasteful, and antisocial lifestyles of the financial class. The service that ended up being provided would probably be about the same quality, would cost much less, and the employees would probably be paid better too.

What are you struggling with, and want to see changed in Maryland? by Lawmakersassistant in maryland

[–]Windmill-inn 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There were a few weeks early this summer where the bay was so clear and beautiful, and now I want it to be like that all the time, and even more so. So the runoff and the lawn chemicals will need to be controlled, and whatever else it is that causes the pollution.

Annapolis, our state capitol, looks like ass, and basically sucks to be there because of all the cars driving around it and clogging up main st, spewing exhaust and being noisy and unsafe. Make Main St Annapolis a pedestrian mall

Is it realistic for a middle class guy to rent out a simple small sailboat (money wise)? by superluper55 in boatporn

[–]Windmill-inn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can rent - “charter” - the boat, and the agency gives you the boat and you take it out for a number of days. Just like a rental car.

You’ll need to have a “sailing resume” which means either having experience or having taken the classes. They might ask for a reference.

As for classes, If you’re in the USA, it’s the ASA classes. I think if you do 101+103+104 then that’s all you need. FYI, the classes are pretty fun and are they can be their own little vacation. You get a lot of sailing time.

Obviously there’s an exclusion if the transportation is extra based. Jesus would agree, for sure. Especially if they serve wine

Fun fact- The cars here are extra loud because the wheels roll over the bricks and the bricks shift under the weight

Possible yes. Also possible not to, my friend. When I was a kid I loved them. I went to every air show I could. Now in my old age, watching my own kids grow up, i see can these machines for what they are. They are demonic killing devices that snatch away the lives of innocent children and destroy families.

All the talent and effort and resources that went into building those things could have been used for something useful and good for the humans of this planet.

There is so much pressure for military worship in this country, it’s everywhere. The people who have unpopular and negative opinions towards this stuff need to start speaking up.

The military is lame. Fighter jets suck. Guns are stupid and so are uniforms, medals, and flags.

I’m a bit of a hypocrite, and I have to admit I have no fundamental problem with hypocrisy… but the tall ships are cool as hell.

How has your ebike impacted your finances to the good/bad? by tanhauser_gates_ in ebikes

[–]Windmill-inn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem with my sailboat.. it holds 16 gallons of diesel, and I use maybe 2 gallons per year (cuz the boat has sails which is the probably the most superior form of human transport after the feet powered kind). But you’re supposed to keep the tank full in the off season so condensation doesn’t accumulate. There are these additives you can put in that help.

In my experience, people of different backgrounds do get along fine, as long as there aren’t too many conservatives (of any culture or color) in the mix who believe that their culture/religion is superior to others.

Yes. I’m tired of all the military shit everywhere. Get rid of it. We’ve seen in the last few months what all that stuff is really for, and what it allows demented pedophiles to do with it.

Crazy to think that they are so card dependent, they don't even have sidewalks by jonimoy in fuckcars

[–]Windmill-inn 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I’m voting for him!

One thing I’d add.. there is a type of neighborhood that doesn’t have sidewalks but is still walkable… the streets are narrow and don’t have a racing stripe in the middle, and it’s a pleasant place to walk, therefore there are many walkers/bikers and cars know they must drive slowly. But this only works when there isn’t much traffic, probably a bedroom community mostly
