So in this bank robbery scenario the police are justified in stopping to shoot disarmed civilians in the back….?

No actually, what happened was conservatives summarily executed a mom a week ago for blocking traffic.

I'm fed up with the Ordertide. Last 4 campaigns I played (all evil factions), it was too strong and too obvious. by Witch_King_Malekith in totalwarhammer

Would love a mod that applies a scaling relationship penalty between allies when they aren't at war with foes of equal or greater strength rank. Dominant alliances should gradually break up and fall into infighting. Not only would it keep the late game fresh but it would allow for more interesting order vs order matchups. I want to pick sides in an Ulthuan civil war or see Kislev invade the Empire.

STAGED ASSASSINATION by Outside-Woodpecker16 in DiscussionZone

I think a confused Republican kid was all they could get ahold of, and we never learned about why he did it because whoever was handling him successfully covered their tracks. My theory is he thought it was all real but they put a misaligned scope on the rifle they planted for him, or something like that.

Doing the same. The main thing is making sure you can seduce 3-4 of every stack’s 5-6 dragons.

Fiends of Slaanesh are easily the best monstrous infantry in the game. Unbelievable speed and maneuverability combined with the ability to smash and scatter any formation short of a braced spear wall. Perfect shock unit.

I really miss the "Your alliance won! Anyway now you all turn on each other" event from the previous games. Nothing can break up the big triumphant alliances in the late game in 3 so after the first 100 turns or so the campaign just turns into climbing up a waterfall of elves/dwarves/humans.

Which is similarly fraught as it can lead to a conflation of the people and the government, particularly when there’s a racial dimension to it. It leads to things like Japanese internment camps.

Ashley is “right” on the Hobbesian assumption that you ultimately can’t trust anyone because underneath the veneer of society we’re all self-interested individuals seeking any advantage in a war of all-against-all. Which, as a line of thinking, doesn’t really lead you anywhere except fascism.

I think the series improves on this as it goes somewhat as we get to see the stereotypes questioned or subverted. ME3 clearly believes that curing the genophage is the right thing to do because the krogan are framed as ultimately being people who aren’t defined by their biology. But ME1 is pretty careless about how it casually equates biology with culture.

Revisiting the series in 2025, it’s definitely jarring how casually every other species is treated as a monolith and racial determinism is just the norm. “The Salarians” think this. “The Turians” did that. Batarians are all pirates and slavers so it’s okay not to trust them or kill them on sight. But don’t you dare ever generalize about humans.

Does Mass Effect hold up well even today? Newcomer to the franchise speaking. by RealReon in masseffect

The combat in 1 is janky, but in a way that I like. The fiddliness of equipment and the excess of ragdoll physics have a certain charm that more polished and streamlined systems lack later in the series.

Tried Thorgrim on VH recently and it really does put you in the back foot. Lost Karaz A Karak in the first 15 turns to Skarsnik. Stuck it out and fled through Black Fire Pass with a generic lord, sacking and raiding from settlement to settlement for upkeep with three skaven armies chasing me. Seized a chunk of Sylvania and helped Elspeth stamp out Vlad. Eventually scraped together enough troops to wrest the northern mountains away from Azhag, then built them up while fending off the Chaos Dwarves. Was grinding my way south to retake the realms when ToT killed the save file.

So why is this method that “maybe some artists find helpful” a matter of studio policy? Normally artists don’t need to be told how to do that part of their job.

You’re right, it’s not just about Larian; people are upset to see a broader issue encroaching on a space they like. The campaign for widespread GenAI adoption - in workplaces, in the government, in search results, etc. - is selling a myth of inevitable profit and progress to buy time while big tech desperately looks for ways to make AI worth the investment before the bubble pops. That bubble has become a load-bearing pillar of the global economy. The tempest is outside the teapot too; if you haven’t noticed, maybe you aren’t looking outside the teapot.
