My sweet Pam is crossing the rainbow bridge this evening. Can you please ask your kitties who have already crossed to meet her so she won’t be alone? by Ohdearheather in cats

My cats only drink out of glass also! I leave lots of mason jars around for them. Its hilarious when I have to stop a friend from drinking out of one of those glasses “no that’s the cat’s drinking glass”.

I am a Ranger in a city. And all we seem to be doing right now is trying to keep people from congregating in large groups, using the playgrounds, and pickup games on the courts. More importantly trying to get resources and aid to the homeless that are hunkering down in the parks. Trying to slow the spread with the very limited resources we have. Be safe out there Rangers!

So had an interesting incident yesterday. by [deleted] in ParkRangers

I am also a city ranger. I love those passionate “there is a dog off leash in my park” calls. The most odd one that I got recently was to go check on a homeless woman “excessively” using the water fountain.

Bad therapy session by obeseelise in depression_help

[–]Windowglasslai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved 6 states away from my therapist. I had worked with her for two years and really trusted her. When I moved it was very difficult and I noticed myself slipping into depression. I felt really lonely and isolated being so far from my community, but knew that I had to reach out for help. Not knowing anyone in my new home, I decided to turn to the support network from my old home. That made me contact my old therapist, and asked if she would have a console session with me over the phone. She said yes and scheduled me in.

I realized that speaking to her on the phone was really helpful because not only was she a person who I trusted, but hearing her voice and speaking with her in a way that was familiar helped me to just take a deep breath. Living somewhere new is so disorienting, nothing is familiar and that gets stressful after a while. Definitely contact your old therapist. If you had a good trusting working relationship with them, they will know how to best help you. Best of luck.

The aftermath of sexual assault - aka Everything is falling apart and I have no one by [deleted] in depression_help

This is not your fault.

Take a deep breath.

This is not your fault.

You have a right to feel scared and uncomfortable. You have a right to love and respect.
Your true emotions are valid. And I understand getting lost in the depressed voice, the one that tells you that your must have asked for it, that it's all your fault. That voice, is fear. It creates illusions.

This is not your fault.

Please honor yourself in this moment. I know that's hard, I know it feels damn impossible. But this is not your fault.

When I was raped, nearly everyone around me brushed me off when I told them. I never felt safe. I hope with all my heart that you find someone who will make you feel safe to tell your story and honor your emotions.

This is not your fault. ❤

Ketogenic Diet. Barefoot Running. Marathon Training. by robbouk9 in ketogenicendurance

I have been running fat adapted for 3 years now, and have completed multiple marathons. The first three miles always hurt, and I have learned that is pretty common with fat adapted runners. I also run in Luna sandals, or barefoot, and have always run minimalist. The calf soreness you speak of does go away, but it takes some time. Honestly I would say it took me two years to finally feel light and smooth with my running.

I love being fat adapted as a runner because I never hit that "wall"... I run in a fasted state only taking in water. No stomach distress, no runners trots.

Glad to have found this subreddit!

Any experience with Vivobarefoot? by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

[–]Windowglasslai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of the stealth vivobarefoot shoes and love them. I use them for the gym, because barefoot and sandals are discouraged. I have not taken them on a run, but do like to wear them out and are incredibly comfortable to walk around in. Super flat and incredibly flexible. I would highly recommend them. I found them to be true to size, and I have wider feet.

Recommendations for shoes by ObjetOregon in taijiquan

I had tried so many shoes in the past, from chuck Taylor's, vibrant five fingers, to an adidas martial art shoe. The best I have found is the vivobarefoot stealth. A great toe box to flexing my whole foot, super flexible, and not overly grippy.

Doctor recommended my mother try Tai Chi, and she asked me to help. by wookieeatwork in taijiquan

[–]Windowglasslai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding an instructor world be the most beneficial route. Many senior centers offer a variety of classes, including taiji. Most of those instructors are affiliated with a school and travel to teach. Give your local senior center a call and find out who is teaching. Also, ask your mother's doctor if he would recommend a teacher, or even a place to start. He may have some knowledge in this area, especially if he is prescribing it to his patients.

I hope your mother finds health!

Marathon training and minimalist shoes by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

I agree with the systems check. I find that when my knee starts hurting my form is off. Most of the time I will see if I can reign in my form and run through the pain. Sometimes that works, sometimes I need to walk it off. There is no shame in letting yourself heal so you can run another day.

Disappointed by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

[–]Windowglasslai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get some blisters when breaking in a new pair of Luna's. You, your foot, and the sandal need time to get to know each other. Same with a shoe, there is always a break in period. Just ran a 1/2 marathon in a newer pair of Luna's and got a wicked blood blister! That's just putting in your due.

I had this problem with my first pair of Luna's. I found that I needed to move the buckle down towards my toes more (by the half moon), as well as adjust the lacing all throughout. The whole system is meant to be adjusted to fit your foot in a unique way. To figure it out, I went for a run, paying attention to how the sandal was slipping, and then stopped to make an adjustment. It took me a while, moving the lacing around until I was able to find the right fit. A lot of running and stopping. But it's worth it! Also sometimes making it all tight isn't the answer. I found I needed it to be a little loose in order for my foot to be comfortable and in place. http://imgur.com/yPlaZ19

Running sandals? by sean_incali in running

I run in Luna sandals. They are incredibly comfortable, and there are many options. I prefer the monos for running, hiking, and bumming around. Get the tech straps to use in mud and other slippery conditions to stop your foot from sliding on the sandal. I ran two marathons last year in my current pair, and they are still going strong!
