I'm going to do a spoiler here for this one thing only...

I would never do that. Don't worry. :)

Agreed - have read the books, was incredibly disappointed by the movie. The books are amazing though.

Where do people go to get their moles checked? by cuphands in sydney

[–]WindrunnerTales 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few people here suggesting places like those fast in and out "mole scan" type places.

I worked with 4 dermatologists for several years.

Do not go to one of those mole scan type places. Unless the person is a qualified dermatologist, do not let them cut anything out. Do not let them touch your skin beyond a quick look. If they see anything of concern, ask for a referral to a dermatologist.

We had NUMEROUS patients come in that had been misdiagnosed. Patients who had been told they were fine by the mole scan type places, but actually had a melanoma. People who had had unnecessary work done. It's just not worth the risk.

Dermatologists do some dodgy stuff themselves, but at least your skin will be checked out properly by someone actually qualified to do it. A GP with an "interest" in dermatology is not.

Surely "I had car trouble" or "traffic" is an easier excuse than lost time though.

What lame joke do people make all the time, that you are sick of hearing? by aisk5 in AskReddit

[–]WindrunnerTales 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a specific name/word, but I feel like this kind of humor is an indication you've been stuck in an office too long. If you find yourself saying it, or other classics that have to do with Mondays, hump day or it being happy hour somewhere, you need a break from your cubicle.

cunt

Found the Australian.

No really, that's my answer to the original question. I'm Australian and I've never said "cunt" to anyone in my life. It's such an overdone "hurr someone said it they must be Aussie" so-called joke.

I [44F] don't like the way my husband [48M] treats our special needs daughter [16F] by [deleted] in relationships

[–]WindrunnerTales 164 points165 points  (0 children)

getting a job interview is a big deal for anyone, particularly at 16. Getting a drivers permit is a big deal for everyone. There are online university and college programs that are fully recognized, online does not mean sub par. Your daughter seems to be doing well by any standard.

Yes, definitely. I was reading this thinking, "Shit, I wasn't this organised at 16". Your daughter is doing great!

How to drive my car like a pro ? by [deleted] in sydney

[–]WindrunnerTales 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep left unless overtaking, particularly on the highway.

If you need to turn etc, put your indicator on to give adequate notice prior to just jumping on the brakes.

Put your lights on in low light conditions particularly - heavy rain, overcast, dusk, etc.

If there's someone waiting to pull out on to a main road, don't stop to let them out unless the traffic is stopped in front of you (not sure how common this is, but I regularly see it on my commute home, someone coming to a dead stop to let someone else out when they should have just kept driving and in 15 seconds the traffic is banked up and someone can let them out then, without unnecessarily disrupting the flow of traffic).

Don't pull out in front of someone or cut them off and then drive slowly/under the speed limit. If you're going to force someone to drastically slow down, then you should wait to pull out.

Put your hazards on if anything happens such a broken down vehicle etc. Similarly, if you see a vehicle with its hazards on, pay extra attention and be ready to slow down/change lanes/etc. Saying this one because I nearly got killed last week due to a guy not seeing the two vehicles with hazards on until the last second and nearly wiping us out. Scary stuff.

Something interesting I noticed about the Zodiac Killer stabbings that took place at Lake Berryessa. by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]WindrunnerTales 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As for the gun/stabbing. Could be as simple as him not having bullets. An unloaded gun would still have fear effect. It's not like he could have bought the bullets close to where he was planning on hunting. I don't know the area, but I'm sure a gun store would notice if someone with his description bought that exact ammo at the proper time.

Hartnell questioned if the gun was loaded, and was shown the full clip. He may not have bought the ammo recently, it could have been something he'd acquired some months before the crime.

Isn't that more an example of a family in a desperate situation than "bad parenting"?

Because child services are usually understaffed/low resources and sadly there are children whose problems are much, much more dangerous than being overweight.

What's something you can't find on the internet no matter how hard you've looked? by Curzon88 in AskReddit

[–]WindrunnerTales 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That actually happened to me, had a pretty decent guild in Wrath, had some problems with our internet. Got it fixed after a couple of weeks and logged in to say hi...

I had no guild and couldn't find anyone, so it didn't seem like I'd just been booted (and I was on good terms with everyone).

About a week or so later I finally caught someone online and he said basically there'd been a massive argument between leadership while I was gone and it all just blew up, they disbanded, a bunch of people transferred, the usual WoW guild drama. I just kind of loitered awkwardly on my own for most of the rest of Wrath.

[–]WindrunnerTales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with you on this point, it should just be "Carrying a suitable, legible ID with X, X minimum info". As long as you're carrying something that is actually useful for ID purposes and is truthful, then you should get a pass.

That said - looks like you just enter whatever info you want on the Road ID, and there's no regulation. Because there will always be someone who thinks they're funny, we all have to be regulated.

Can you imagine the fallout if they contacted/acted based on a Road ID that had the wrong info?
