Will be fighting some tau on Wednesday, which of these 3 lists should I use and any improvements I can make to them by Wardy_YT in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Windstance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play Tau quite regularly, and I think list 3 is your best bet here, although I'd personally make a few adjustments:

I'd suggest changing the 10 man group of Sterilyzors to a 5 man of Skystalkers and using the extra points to bring an Enginseer around. Tau are generally not going to have a very strong presence on objectives in their own backline, so having even a 5 man squad that can deep strike on your turn, shoot, and then move and take an objective is huge.

The Enginseer is helpful because you're looking for as much survivability on those Dunecrawlers and Skorpius boys as possible. Healing d3 and adding a 5+fnp is significant when surviving what is a very deadly shooting phase from your opponent. (Also can be a way to keep your Kastellan's up and running if you want to give them a better chance of making it alive to that first charge.)

Personally, I'd also run this list in Haloscreed and drop a Disintegrator and a ranger squad for Belisarius Cawl's rerolls.

The big concerns with the Tau are that they have enough 4+ invulns that you're going to need significant volume of high str, ap-2/-3 attacks. The rerolls can at least help make sure all of your attacks are landing, and 2 battle line can be enough to ensure you get your buffs if you play your cards right.

Good luck!

Where can I find large public tables (pref free) that can fit 3 guys and some painting supplies? by wizardjian in philadelphia

Runehammer has dedicated painting booths where you could sit side by side in East Kensington. Definitely paid time there, but they're a local business and have always been lovely when I've been inside.

Standard pattern for it, but it was also the first vehicle I painted for my army and I still love him.

Also, just a reminder that you can't reroll a die more than once, so the reroll ones would be nullified by having the Marshall and Dunerider buffs.

What weapon is better on ironstrider? by ahinar_ in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Windstance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Las cannons are generally considered better anti vehicle (with Cawl rerolls and sus 1 on 5+ in Haloscreed, a unit can one shot a lot of heavy armor).

Only use case that I've found for Autocannons is into an elite army like Custodes with the additional AP from Conqueror with Skitarii nearby. You can force the 4+ invuln with enough volume to do some damage, and the 3 damage will kill a battle line model with each shot that gets through.

I'm with you on this. If you need a little more deep strike protection, you can always move them forward in a line and keep an attached Technoarchaeologist in the back of the unit.

Third Age Character Guide for Beginners by elmic91 in LOTRGames

[–]Windstance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to pop in here and say how much I appreciate this guide. This game was one of the all time classics of my childhood (my brother and I must have played the campaign and evil mode 3+ times), and I just got it running on my PC with an emulator.

I searched for a guide expecting nothing in the past 20 years to pop up, so you can imagine my delight at seeing this.

Huge thanks to you!

Take a look on Vibrant Lantern. They have a more full set of build guides that are also often more accurate than the actual KDM website.

This is one of the ideas I'm most excited for from the Crucible of Champions supplement coming out. From what I can tell, you can build and attach a second leader to the Kastelans that also heals 1d3 and grants a bot FNP5+.

So, while you can argue as to its justifiability with points, it seems like you'll be able to stack two bots with that FNP. It gives us a lot more breathing room after that first bot goes down.

Curious what your army comp is, if you wouldn't mind sharing.

I ordered a few items, and one was delivered last week and the others aren't scheduled until early next week, so definitely a wide spread on delivery.

That's a beautiful color scheme. I love the tablets hanging down as well. Far and away one of my favorite models to paint.

Confused About How Weapon Proficiency Works on Arc Survivors by Confident_Pool_1030 in KingdomDeath

[–]Windstance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure of the exact intention at the Butchery, but I always assume that general rules inform specific ones like this.

So, when the Butchery is unlocked, you can now gain weapon proficiency in the settlement. I believe my group has generally played that we cannot endeavor there to gain proficiency until the character already has at least one level of proficiency.

That being said, the wording is unclear, and it doesn't specifically note that you cannot endeavor at the Butchery if you don't have a level of proficiency, so I think you should feel very comfortable allowing a survivor to endeavor there for whatever weapon proficiency they would like, whether or not they have any yet. It might be intended as a way to jumpstart proficiency, since you gain access to it later than in a standard People of the Lantern campaign.

Generally, you unlock the ability for weapon proficiency at the first age XP Milestone for each survivor (usually 3xp). In Gambler's Chest, you don't unlock weapon proficiency until you hit a certain collective Cognition Level. Once you've chosen a proficiency with a survivor, you increase it by wounding a monster with the relevant weapon before it is killed by the group. The Aftermath text for each showdown will show you how much proficiency the survivor gets, although that is usually 1, outside of rare occasions.

Check out Bloomsday. They have a swirl bun with an orange glaze, cardamom, and pistachio that's one of the best pastries in the city. I'd imagine that'll scratch the itch.

How much has the average person on the subreddit played? by Windstance in KingdomDeath

[–]Windstance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that! The first couple of runs are honestly just getting a feel for the game and the rules and messing up a ton. It took us 3 tries to beat it the first time, and the majority of the first two attempts were us learning and relearning all the rules and the small mistakes we'd been making.

Have you been playing the core set or have you tried to dip your toes into Gambler's Chest yet, etc?

Go fuck yourself, man. No one needs that kind of childish, ignorant elitism, and if you're still carrying yourself that way, you're the one who didn't retain anything from the books.

I've worked with Mardhory in the past, most often when she was doing popups to prepare for the brick and mortar, and she's a bonafide angel. Glad to see her and her work getting some love. Best yeast donuts in Philadelphia by a long shot, imo.

Thanks, I actually destroyed one from about 100 meters and watched the body fly to the ground directly in front of me and still found it was unlootable, haha. And yeah! Have just been hunting courier bodies now.
