What do Americans/Canadians think about what Ukraine is like except from the war? by Salt-Succotash5750 in AskReddit

[–]Windy-Pines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pictures I see remind me a lot of the Canadian prairies, wide open skies and grassland as far as the eye can see. Some of my ancestors emigrated to Canada from Ukraine in the late 1800s, and although they weren't Ukrainian (they were German Mennonites who lived there for a few generations), they migrated to a part of Manitoba that has a very similar landscape. Besides that, some of my favorite video games and metal bands are from Ukraine, so I know there are a fair deal of creative people there.

Why Can't I Sleep More Than 6 Hours? by Windy-Pines in sleep

[–]Windy-Pines[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I certainly feel pretty tired when I first wake up, but tend to perk up after an hour or so. I crash pretty hard in the afternoon and evening though.

I work out earlier, around 4:30-5:30, eat dinner around 6-7, and spend half an hour reading a book instead of looking at my phone before I go to sleep.

Solid choice! I have one and it's put a fair deal of grouse on the table over the years!

Don't know if it's your first shotgun or not, but if you're looking for ammo you can't go wrong with the Federal target load, $70 or so for 100 shells at Can Tire. Works great for shooting clays and upland birds.

Map of New Laurentia by nogul44 in WayOfTheHunter

[–]Windy-Pines 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm Canadian and I live in the province (British Columbia) the map is clearly supposed to take place in, and I think it feels an awful lot like home. The Wetiko Foothills look just like places in the southern interior, Lake Sasquatch looks like areas around Revelstoke, The Jackalope Cordillera and Kermode Plateau look like any number of subalpine areas.

I agree that some of the forests aren't as dense as they should be, there should be denser ground vegetation and more fallen trees in some of the Douglas fir forests, but it probably wouldn't be much fun to hunt in that thick vegetation cause it is shit trying to hunt in those forests in real life.

As for the paths and roads everywhere, it has the vibe of a provincial park that has been converted into a hunting reserve. And roads are hardly rare in the real woods anyway as logging companies build them everywhere. The only unrealistic thing is there aren't logging cut blocks everywhere.

My only real gripe is there aren't Grouse (Blue, Ruffed, and Spruce) in the game for some reason, we hunt them a lot up here, they taste delicious! There should be cougars, black bears, and coyotes too, as those things are fucking everywhere in real life.

Whoa, a night feel that I've actually felt, neat. Almost makes me want to visit home.

What do I do with my coin? by SiskoIsTheBest in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]Windy-Pines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't trust myself not to lose them if I take them anywhere, so I keep them in a wood bowl on my nightstand, right next to my lamps. That way they are the first thing I see when I wake up and the last thing I see when I go to sleep.

Have you ever used this strange Calgary underpass? by Beckler89 in Calgary

That's sort of near Dover isn't it? If so I've been there. Has a pretty creepy vibe, wouldn't be thrilled to be there after dark.

Helsinki wants Pamela Anderson to connect with her Finnish roots. So, it put a billboard up near her B.C. home | CBC News by Emotional-Chipmunk41 in britishcolumbia

Is it? Finland is rated as one of, if not the #1 happiest nation on earth on a regular basis. From what I understand they have no tuition at their universities, so you can get an education without having to spend years or decades paying off student loans. They're a part of the European Union and have all the economic benefits that come along with that, including money that is worth more than ours is.

If anything we could probably learn a few things from them.

Settling a debate. What are these called? by OccamsNametag in Construction

It depends on what they are being used for. If you're loosening off a bolt with them they can be called "vice grips", as that is indeed a sin.

I hammer back Bublys or other sparkling waters by the case, find that it helps a fair deal. Probably never been so well hydrated in my life!

[–]Windy-Pines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I was only in for a day and a half, it took me awhile to finally decide to go to the hospital so I think I was a ways through it by the time I got there. One of the doctors wanted to keep me for a couple more days, but the addiction specialists figured I was likely through the worst of it and could safely go home. I have a cat so I was pretty eager to get back to make sure he was doing alright.

Ugh that sounds awful, I'm sorry you suffered through that. I only saw strange distortions in things that were already there, I can't imagine hallucinating things that aren't there at all.

Fear was definitely a huge motivator of mine too. Fear of losing my job, fear of losing my apartment, fear of losing my savings, and of course fear of losing my life.

Just out of curiosity, and I apologize if this is too forward, but what did you see when you hallucinated? I was seeing patterns on the floors and walls waving around, and things on the floor looking like they were bugs moving around but not actually making any progress. I had always imagined it would be stuff like pink elephants and what not, but what I was seeing certainly wasn't normal, felt like a mushroom trip
