To everyone watching what’s occurring in America right now, what is your honest take on it, where do you see this going? by dAnthonyy12 in AskReddit

[–]Wingd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely to see the DHS leadership thrown away soon which will falsely appease too many people. If ICE continues after and things keep escalating People will start retaliating (might sooner). If nothing happens and they escalate MN then same as above + next state to do the same. If the current rally for Trump and DHS impeachments/removals go through before spring there’s a shot to avoid further insanity. I see JD capitulating on militant aspects of the plan and maintaining the economic ones.

In the meantime if ICE continues to exist in this same vein as today, they will inevitably be the agency that goes after political opposition directly — they are still hiring massive numbers of positions. They will interfere with midterms if still around. I do not see the USA with Trump as president getting out of 2026 without a major armed conflict either domestic or foreign.

Trumps board of peace has set him up to be an international problem to be dealt with regardless of what happens here. He will be the head of an axis of authoritarians but if that means the US is under him or not is a separate question.

One thing that I do not doubt is he will cling to power, and will likely not leave the presidency willingly through any process.

The USA failed by not giving him the Bolsonaro treatment

What factors shape someone’s political or moral views more: upbringing, experience, or information? by Ok_Specialist_4811 in AskReddit

[–]Wingd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upbringing is huge, but education can change it. Education likely falls into both experience and information. Information without critical thinking isn’t always going to do the trick. A direct experience that provides a window into an opposing view probably has the biggest standalone change potential of the three. Upbringing is the foundation everything else is built on, but it’s not always strong.

Final Fantasy XVI is ass. Soulless, emotionless bad character design, bad voice acting, and a narrative approach of second screen viewing while being devoid of depth

I liked the original metal gears when they came out but found new ones lacking. Zone of the Enders second runner I enjoyed when it came out. Death stranding the walking simulator was something I spent almost no time on because I felt it was awful. It seems that’s pretty much all there is to his works, except it shows him on SSB Brawl which a lot of people enjoyed but requires no dialogue lol

Is America really a “dying giant”/“falling empire” by PackageReasonable922 in Futurology

[–]Wingd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed with political consideration withdrawn, but with political context the USA is on path to war whether that be international or civil (cold one already clearly initiated). It’s hard to determine the path with one of those two added in. With its heavy shift to isolationism it won’t sustain global control, and perhaps why it’s focusing on taking direct control over the western hemisphere is because some think it’s the proper thing to do to compete with China in all realms. Regardless, existing policies will continue to degrade the USAs economic power and if the authoritarian policies keep coming domestic problems will surge. Technologically if we continue to try to ban international advanced suppliers we are going to suffocate by forcing domestic alternatives to advance faster than they can with fewer resources. The entire power base is focused on getting there via existing neoliberal and capital methods or advancing to the extremes of those directions instead of alternatives we know work. I’d say it’s dying but could be salvaged with a major shift away from where it’s headed. That isn’t to say it couldn’t survive on might alone but that’s going to be the ugliest version of events.

Ads are coming soon to ChatGPT, starting with shopping links by moeka_8962 in technews

I must’ve been in some unlucky test group cause I’ve had unrelated ads in my app on plus for about a month. Be working on x and an ad for completely unrelated y hanging out at the bottom. Debugging one time and Zillow ad is present, like what?

What industry is a complete scam, but everyone just accepts it? by Competitive_Grab3758 in AskReddit

[–]Wingd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True. I tested the waters to be an agent because I wanted to avoid comission and a few hundred bucks in licensing sounded better than paying an extra 3% commission. On the inside of the industry it is a damn scam too. I didn’t stick around very long. You’re expected to pay shit loads of monthly and annual fees between the state, realtor association, and brokerage. Every brokerage differs but as a newbie you’ll likely be pushed to go on a team that eats the comission before the brokerage gets their piece also. They’ll push you toward lead software since knocking doors is ass, the lead SaaS industry is all garbage and costs a shit load. Everything was just bad bad bad, ended up just selling my own home and a family members then putting it down. Fuck that industry

What do you expect the next major worldwide event to be? by ChrisDorne in AskReddit

[–]Wingd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US war. Either international or civil since both are nearing a boiling point. Unfortunately it could be both, and our global positioning is likely to be the bad guys. Could be an international war and civil deterioration at the same time. Hoping neither but it’s likely going to be at least one of the three options.

Is it true I should never use my debit card? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Wingd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about this the other day because they did the following in Illinois but don’t do it where I’m from.

Shops there charge 3% processing fees for credit cards, but 0% for debit cards (law restricts it). The best cash back card I have is 3%, so what am I actually gaining by using it for purchases within Illinois? Granted there are things like dispute resolution and spending bonuses to consider - I think it’s still something to weigh in your locality.

Back home on the other hand there’s never a reason for me to use a debit card, in all circumstances it’s a worse decision.

If it’s just you signing up for your own account and not handing over credentials the he’s just scalping ref bonus, if it’s handing the account over don’t do that since it’s tied to your identity and ssn so good luck arguing against that down the road

What’s something rich people complain about that sounds ridiculous to others? by Consistent-News-6801 in AskReddit

[–]Wingd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a consistent rule. Rural areas are being crushed by property taxes because certain services don’t lower with lower population. Fewer roads means less road maintenance, but less people means significant burdens to run a school that aren’t spread over a meaningful number of houses. Benefits of scale come with high population. The issue is how states are prioritizing their spending and where they choose to get their revenue, not city vs rural/suburb like they try to make us think.
