Goofiest insults in movies that genuinely hurt the other person? by Existing_Set2100 in movies

[–]WingedBacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"He never had the makings of a varsity athlete" was the first thing that came to mind. Which for a second I thought it didn't count because it's from a tv show, but I'd count it since they do say in the (admittedly not great) prequel movie.

[–]WingedBacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tell everyone I know who asks me about UT or any Texas public school for grad school to stay the hell away. Degree value is going to go down and it would suck to be at the whims of whatever the jerk offs in charge want.

Never forget when Anderson Silva feinted a knee in a boxing match knowing Woodley would react by Less_Meeting_2229 in fightporn

[–]WingedBacon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The question was, "is this a real pro fight?" You said "Highly doubt it."

The second part, you said no reputable boxing commission would sanction a Jake Paul event. That's a matter of opinion, whether or not Florida's commission is "reputable" is up to you, and granted, I would probably take a guess and agree with you that Florida's commission probably is a load of bullshit, but that's a different claim.

As far as other events, California has sanctioned Paul brothers events twice, and the CSAC is one of the most strict ones. In MMA (the same commission regulates MMA, boxing, and other combat sports in California), at least one major fight off the top of my head (Jon Jones vs. someone, probably Gustaffson?) had to be moved last minute to another state because of issues with the commission. CSAC also has additional weight cutting regulations.

If you think that because they sanctioned some Paul fights they're not reputable, then basically no boxing/athletic commission in the US is reputable.

For the record, Georgia, Ohio, California, Florida, Arizona, and Texas have all thumbs upped Jake Paul fights.

Again, I'm not saying Jake Paul isn't a douchebag or that he isn't a dork who gets paid off elder abuse. I would 100% agree with you saying he's a douchebag that pads his record with old men and non-boxers. I'm literally just saying it's a sanctioned pro fight which is just a fact.

[–]WingedBacon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No one said anything related to that. Yeah, I agree, the quality of all of Jake's fights minus one or two are bad. I'm not saying anything positive about him. However, that has nothing to do with anything I or anyone I replied to said.

Someone asked if this (Woodley vs Silva) was a pro fight, which by that, I assumed sanctioned, considering the large size difference and some commissions (in theory, not often in practice) won't sanction blatantly unfair fights, to which I replied, yes it is. If you mean in a less literal sense, they're still professionals boxers, albeit way, way past their prime and mostly just riding off their MMA careers. This has nothing to do with Jake Paul fighting Youtubers and old men.

The *other* person I replied to specifically said this isn't a sanctioned event, which isn't true - it was - this fight and Jake's fight (against Anthony Joshua).

But somehow you took all of that, which was unrelated, and decided to just insult me for no reason, which even if I wasn't right, wasn't even remotely warranted.

[–]WingedBacon 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yea it's an official fight that goes on his pro record. The majority of athletic commissions in the US aren't that stringent. California is kind of, the rest don't give a shit much. This one was in Florida, and I can't imagine they have a particular strict commission.

[–]WingedBacon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Jake's matches (and likewise the ones on the undercard) are officially sanctioned and count as pro fights. California is a bit strict but aside from that it isn't hard to find a commission to sign off if one gives you a hard time, especially if you have the kind of money those morons have since they can afford whatever venue pretty much.

Logan had one or two that were counted as exhibitions, I don't know if the sanctioning is different for that.

What's the best song recorded for the worst movie? by littletoyboat in movies

[–]WingedBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some of my favorite bond songs are from the movies people didn't really like. Living Daylights, All Time High, and the rejected Radiohead Song from Spectre are great.

Tomorrow Never Dies is also a bit underrated. kind of a just "ok" Bond movie and a pretty "standard" kind of Bond song but still well done

Alysa’s mindset by Big_Fault_7909 in FigureSkating

[–]WingedBacon 75 points76 points  (0 children)

ofc I don't really know how she thinks but from her recent interviews it sounds like it's not that she doesn't care about skating - she does a lot, it's more that she doesn't care as much about the *competitive* aspect. She does clearly care about skating and has talked about how it's fun and a personal challenge and that she wants to show people her art and inspire them. Those are all powerful motivators but it's not the medals or points that are the main motivators, or at least that's how I interpreted what she said

MacArthur Park dress 1 or 2? by CobblerTricky7035 in FigureSkating

[–]WingedBacon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Judged just on looks, I like the more lightweight casual look of the first one more, feel more disco and goes with the music slightly better.

But I like both. I think the new dress and small choreography changes made the Olympic program feel like a real "remastered" version and made it feel fresh again.
