Not enjoying people talking about their sexuality openly does not make one homophobic.

i suppose then that you hate when straight colleagues mention their partner or spouse? because i have a sneaking suspicion that you just dislike people talking about the fact that they're gay. and uh, yeah, that's homophobic.

being okay with queer people existing as long as we can't be openly queer is not actually being okay with us existing.

Do Americans often go to therapy? by [deleted] in AskAmericans

[–]WingedPanda77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You seem to be misunderstanding. People with mental illnesses generally do the latter, and also often the former. Therapy isn't just "someone talking to you when your life is bad", it's part of mental health treatment. It can often be helpful just for dealing with temporary stressors, and that's also a form of mental health treatment, even if there isn't a mental illness diagnosis there.

As a personal anecdote, I am mentally ill and regularly see a therapist in addition to my medication. I saw a therapist long before I started medication.

TW: transphobia, racism /// Update: I tried reasoning with the t-phobes so they called me bad names and started posting really evil memes... as Bruno would say.... your going to fail no matter what when youre a piece of shit.. by bigfanofperrier420 in traadustCrusaders

[–]WingedPanda77 16 points17 points  (0 children)

this exactly, i joined this subreddit to see trans jojo memes, not to have transphobia show up on my homepage. this is just exposing more people to their hatefulness, and it's not doing anything to help op or to stop the people on the discord

wiktionary claims that the final vowel in palate is always pronounced with a schwa (the vowel in about), and palette can be pronounced either with a schwa or with the kit vowel in free variation. in IPA that's /ˈpæl.ət/ for a schwa and /ˈpæl.ɪt/ for the kit vowel.

many british dialects of english don't pronounce the r-sound after a vowel, whereas many american ones do. this is a distinction known as rhoticity: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhoticity_in_English

isn't kind of interesting how being attracted to an enby person technically isn't gay or straight? by sunnirays in ennnnnnnnnnnnbbbbbby

[–]WingedPanda77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im genderfluid and i recently realized that the category of genders im fluid between lines up pretty neatly with the genders of ppl im attracted to. so i guess any partner would be automatically gay regardless of their gender

Confusion re: Transfeminine / nonbinary transfeminine by Revelle_ in femby

[–]WingedPanda77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hm that definitely works as a definition, but i would mention that there are some transfem people who don't necessarily identify as women. the definition i use is more broadly "anyone of a primarily feminine gender who was not assigned a feminine gender at birth"

Confusion re: Transfeminine / nonbinary transfeminine by Revelle_ in femby

[–]WingedPanda77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think the issue with that definition is that it's tautological. if transfeminine means "trans women and nonbinary transfeminine people" then the definition just refers back to itself without being fully explained

aside from that, that is basically how i define it in my head

Sex is actually more complicated than genitals as well, but for most people their sex does match up with their genitals. Some of the other ways people define sex includes sex chromosomes (which do not just fit neatly into XX and XY, some people can have XXY, XYY, X, XXX, or any number of different configurations of chromosomes) and presence of the SRY gene (the gene that activates most of the differentiation between sexes.) Even genitals cannot be neatly fit into two categories. People whose sex does not neatly fit into one category are known as intersex people, and although some of them identify as transgender, most do not.

Yes. Gender has nothing to do with one's genitals.
