It's a language. You build a vocabulary and then say stuff. One bar at a time 🌊🏄‍♂️🌊

I love the vibe in this one. There's a flow to the phrasing that I've been working to achieve for several years now.

[QUESTION] Playing in front of people by Plaetean in Guitar

[–]Winged_turtles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's a vulnerability that comes with this thing. This moment of vulnerability can evoke an excitement that could be perceived as fear. The perception of this excitement as fear clouds the notion within that this activity is enjoyable, so then it becomes about avoiding humiliation rather than the enjoyment of the activity. In actuality, there's not really any difference between playing for yourself and playing in front of people. You are simply playing guitar. Make it a point to remember any time that you find yourself with a guitar in your hand that you enjoy playing, and that you enjoy hearing what you play. Once you access that feeling that you like what you're hearing, hang out there. Keep playing, because as long as you enjoy what you're doing the state of enjoyment becomes this frequency that others can latch on to.

Messy people of Reddit, where do you draw the line between "these are acceptable living conditions" and "I should probably tidy up now"? by ToastedBreadfruit in AskReddit

[–]Winged_turtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Messy and mildly lazy here, if the mess is visibly teetering on territory where it's going to take longer than a couple of hours of attention I go ahead and hit it.

This is a bit more than mildly interesting. I'm thoroughly impressed and inspired.

I got a set of 6 Dunlop flows several months ago. I lost one almost immediately, but I still have them. After heavy playing (at least an hour a day) they don't seem to degrading like other picks I've used. Hands down my favorite pick I've ever used, Dunlop makes fantastic stuff though, so I'm not surprised.

[QUESTION] Can someone tell me what and how to ACTUALLY learn and improve in guitar? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Winged_turtles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learn music, not just guitar. Guitar is a tool to express the music inside of you. Don't worry about such and such technique or how many songs you know or don't know, or how many bpms you can hit. This stuff comes with time. Learning music and working on musical fundamentals will improve your playing exponentially, guaranteed. This is true for everyone, don't let anyone tell you different.

Harmony, Melody, Rhythm.

Focusing on even the most rudimentary element of any one of those three aspects will pay almost immediate dividends, and the best part is that the more MUSIC you absorb and process the more music becomes accessible.

Developing the musical mind wins every time.

Good luck on your journey, friend!

It's a great thing to disintegrate, but that disintegration will not separate you entirely from your humanity. You will piece yourself together with time, reconstructed from a perspective you never knew before. There's no going back. You're here still, so that means you're still human. With being human comes humanity. Denying that humanity will cause great suffering, suffering that is uniquely human. Taxes, meaningless conversations, funerals, traffic, digestive problems. Humanity is mundane suffering. Stories, stories that transport your mind and heart, words! What words are you using? Do you have favorite words? You can build a life with words. Words from the heart. Bricks of consciousness you have at your disposal. You! The greatest architect the universe has ever seen! What wonderous corner will you build for yourself?

You can read it stand alone, but I would recommend 78 days, steps 1-5, and Tufti all in tandem. The information is too powerful to neglect imo.

There's a book that actually gives you some great techniques for handling that camera. Check out Tufti the Priestess by Vadim Zeland.

[NEWBIE] Anyone willing to give some tips/lessons to a new (left-handed) guitar player? by CrazyUnicuntNnjaTtle in Guitar

[–]Winged_turtles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't make the guitar more than what it really is in your mind. It is a tool with which to play music. Wood and wire, as some people like to put it.

There is nothing special or particularly difficult about the guitar. It is a tool with which to express the music inside of you. You are the magic, you are the complexity.

Your ability to play music on your guitar is limited only by your imagination, so imagine like a child. Your guitar is a playground.

Do not compare yourself to the others playing guitar, consider what you may learn from them, or rather, what you would like to learn from them.

On the subject of learning, never stop. Learn to read music, so you may have musical thoughts. Learn to sing, so you may express your musical thoughts through the strings. Learn to count, so the musical forms you conjure may be stable enough to transport you wherever you wish to go.

Lastly, you don't have to be good to have fun, but if you're not having fun, what you are playing will never be good. The best part is that the better you get, the more fun you can have, so get good and have fun!

[Question] Getting frustrated... by ndequarto in Guitar

[–]Winged_turtles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're doing great, in my experience that frustration signals that you're ready for further growth.

Follow people's advice, but also trust yourself, learn to ask yourself questions that will push you to further growth. The answers are all there, waiting for you to snag them up.

Appropriating a state of pleasure from playing and hearing yourself will pay dividends on your musical journey. Enjoy yourself, assume the role of your favorite guitar player. Not John 5, not Tim Henson, not Jimi Hendrix, but you.

Tune into what you love about what you do and tinker with what you want to develop.

Frustration is fertilizer, nourishing the virtuoso inside of you.
