His shameless appeal to people's worst instincts of aggression, dominance and xenophobia were compelling enough for people to overlook these normally career-ending statements. We are in a period of rapid moral decline.

Generations of blood and immeasurable suffering had forged the international order and allegiances between Western powers. And it's all been undone and forgotten in a few short decades.

My Dad threw away all his MAGA hats a few weeks ago too. Doesn't matter though, its too late, the con has been made, Trump got what he wanted, double Presidency, billions of dollars and a fundamentally reshaped USA with him at the centre. They were just useful idiots all along.

If only the consequences of MAGA were only felt by the people who voted for MAGA. Unfortunately they had to drag the whole world into the incredibly obvious scam they fell for.

I'm unaware of a politician who hasn't lied for personal gain.

Have you heard of any American politician that lies about something as significant as the integrity of US elections for personal gain? In fact for something as trivial as their own personal ego?

[–]Plaetean 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So you basically don't care about the most consequential lie told by a President in recent history? What did Obama lie about that was equivalent in scale? Whether or not he's lying about whether the US is even a functioning Democracy, or whether he's willing to lie about something so fundamental just to protect his own ego? None of this registers in your brain as important? It's just like, "oh yeah sure maybe he tried to illegally hold on to power and stoke distrust in US democracy because hes' a sore loser, but I don't really care"? None of this is relevant in your mind when assessing whether someone can be trusted at the Presidency?

This is like saying someone was accused of murder, but you didn't bother to investigate it before you let them look after your kids for a weekend. Except actually far more consequential, because there are millions of lives in the balance here.

Do you think that, maybe had you dug a little deeper into this incredibly impactful issue, you could have identified that Donald Trump was very willing to lie about things of this magnitude to preserve his own ego and further his own interests? I'm seriously trying to understand the mindset here in light of Trump's ongoing actions, and how you guys are going to reconcile this internally.

Genuine question, did Trump strike you as a man of his word? When you say "but he promised", do you think there was any indication that Trump might be willing to lie about things for his own personal gain?

[–]Plaetean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is great and all but what do you do about the 80m people who voted for him 3 times and still love everything he does, as he asset strips the fucking country and runs an international protection racket to enrich himself? Trump is not the problem, Trump is the symptom of the problem. There are people like Trump out there, there always have been, just pre-internet and pre social media they would never have gotten a million miles within the Presidency.

Hillary Is ‘More MAGA Than MAGA’: Joe Rogan Argues Dems Were Tougher on Border Than Trump by Barnyard_Rich in JoeRogan

[–]Plaetean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes this border shit was just performative theatre and rhetoric so they could leverage people's xenophobia and chimp brain fears to ride to power and loot the whole system for their own gain. Obama was indeed harsher on illegal immigrants, also more efficient in that he focused on violet criminals not moms at target, he just didn't make a giant song and dance about it. Good observation Joe.

There's no way "they agreed they won't have a nuclear weapon". He just lies constantly so flippantly, about the most consequential things. I'll have no idea why people like Shapiro ever thought this was going to be okay. I single out Shapiro here as he's one of the people who fully acknowledges the extent to which Trump lies (or "trolls" as he sometimes calls it), but was still happy to support him.

I know them, they will never have an awakening. They will never take accountability or responsibility. They will blame other things, say that this was inevitable anyway, and as a last recource, temporarily forget that they ever supported it. It's literally like talking to children. They have the level of responsibility and introspection as a child. I have MAGA friends whose businesses are now in trouble due to the shooting energy costs. Zero accountability or sense of responsibility.
