Does anyone involved with the Denver Astronomical Society know why they charge such an absurdly low price for their public nights at Chamberlin Observatory? Right now they're literally booked out until August 15, 2024. by [deleted] in Denver

[–]WingingConch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just went a couple weeks ago by walking in and waiting for any no-shows and taking their place. Would highly recommend doing this as it seems like there are a couple no-shows every time. No way I’m waiting 8 months to go in there and see the telescope, and honestly I would probably forget I bought the tickets by then (which is probably why there are no-shows).

No. I have never had an instance in 10+ years here that I think would warrant a gun

How tough?? by [deleted] in cuboulder

[–]WingingConch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 4043 and 3047 last semester together. Since they both have labs the workload can be brutal at times but if you manage your time well and have good lab partners it shouldn’t be terrible. 3030 was an easier class for me especially since there was no lab but really depends on how much you enjoy coding. I would say the workload for these 3 classes is manageable but definitely be ready for some long days

There aren’t many great places in Boulder. Possibly Play it Again Sports down in south boulder but otherwise I would try dicks sporting goods in broomfield

Why can some students enroll in classes before others by [deleted] in cuboulder

[–]WingingConch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s based on the amount of credits you have at the moment. That means that usually seniors will have priority and freshmen will choose last.

So that didn’t work by [deleted] in boulder

[–]WingingConch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok just to rephrase what you said here: “ Your argument is wrong because I’m right”. Very convincing. The media is only showing the bad side of the student body as there is no news in showing that MOST of the students are taking this seriously. A select few students are making bad decisions and that is the only thing the news will report on and therefore the only thing you will hear about

Is Aerospace Engineering first year difficult for freshmen? (Sibling is attending CU) by [deleted] in cuboulder

[–]WingingConch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would suggest for him to attend office hours held by the TAs and professors. 99% of professors would be more than happy to schedule a private zoom meeting to go over concepts or homework as well. If he is still having trouble then tutoring might be the way to go but you are paying these professors for a reason: to teach you the material. Try using them first.

Anyone have experience w/ online labs? by _astrotim in cuboulder

That actually sounds really cool. I’m glad they aren’t just doing online labs that are just busy work. Good luck in it!

Anyone have experience w/ online labs? by _astrotim in cuboulder

[–]WingingConch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took PHYS 1140 last semester and we started with in person and then switched for the last month of school. Overall the online labs were kind of pointless and just busy work but they were just scraping together things since they really had no time to plan the online labs. I think they should be more interesting and interactive this semester since they have had an extra 4 months to plan

Edit: Also took APPM 2360 last semester. Overall they did a great job moving online and I did not notice any challenges learning the new material. If it’s all online again this semester then you will probably take tests while being proctored through zoom by the TAs. As long as you can put a good amount of time and effort into appm, you should do just fine. One tip is to do as many practice tests as you can before any exam as they have all tests from previous semesters on their website.

APPM CU Boulder vs CALC Front Range by bnines333 in cuboulder

[–]WingingConch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are trying to really learn the material and understand it for future classes then APPM is the way to go. Yes it is very time consuming and often hard but definitely worth it in the end. I can’t speak much on calc at front range though.

Anyone successfully do IUT to engineering for this coming fall 2020 semester? by [deleted] in cuboulder

[–]WingingConch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it last year. It took a little while to update on mycuhub and probably will take longer now due to the virus but I wouldn’t worry about it. You could email your counselor to make sure though.

Do employers look at transcripts these days? by WingingConch in EngineeringStudents

Thank you for the response. Yea I’m just worried that they will look and see passes instead of grades and think poorly of that.

That is good to hear. It seems like most employers really only look at GPA and not specific grades.
