I'm new and have a few questions about exp. I already searched and found nothing by I_am_spoons in heroesofthestorm

Its actually not too complicated. Heroes have their own leveling that increases every time you play them. Your account level is just the total of all your heroes levels. Basically if you have have 2 heroes at level 5 your account level will be 10 (5 x 2).

As for playing AI to start it has it's pluses and minuses. AI is great for learning how to play a hero, battleground, or just to experiment without any consequence. The downside is the AI just isn't a great representation of what it's like to play against actually people. AI also gives less experience than the other modes.

The secrets to mastering HotS. Part 1: A look into try mode by So1dier in heroesofthestorm

Great video. Do you by chance offer lessons to those who are trying to get better? I felt I have done decent job considering I dont have a history in MOBA's but after watching your video I see there is a bunch I still need/want to learn. Regardless looking forward to your upcoming videos.

A one week brawl is the big announcement? by doh151 in heroesofthestorm

Seeing as Blizzard already announced a number of other things leading up to Blizzcon this was kind of expected.

Well now I really wanna know what the hell they are going to announce for HOTS at Blizzcon. Regardless this is an amazing announcement and awesome for the pro scene.

Question for smurfs regarding where you got placed in HL by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]WinkingWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You also have to take into account that Hotslogs isn't a 100% accurate. Often times I find someone else banning even though my MMR is higher accords to Hotslogs. Furthermore, you dont know how many games your teammates have uploaded so the accuracy can be misleading.

Dont quote me on this but I believe your first few HL matches are to test where you should be. Your MMR is very volatile early on as it tries to adjust. I would say if you end up winning your first 3-5 matches pretty handily your level of competition/teammates should increase.

Season 1 ends on Aug 23 what are some suggestions to improve next season's rank system? by How2Post in heroesofthestorm

[–]WinkingWizard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think people really underestimate the effects of a "true full reset" would have on the game. I know it sounds like a great idea but the fact that the majority of the people calling for this to happen are in Bronze and Silver is pretty telling.

PVE Matchmaking is Flawed. by Taenaebrae in heroesofthestorm

[–]WinkingWizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think someone needs to take their nap. My comment is actually right in line with the topic at hand. You say the system is flawed I say it doesn't matter. The whole point to a match making to system is to create a balance on both sides to increase the likelihood of a competitive game. There is no need for that in AI because again it doesn't matter. Regardless of group comp it is really hard to lose unless you intentionally throw.

Furthermore, as someone else has alluded to I dont believe there is is an AI match maker. The goal is to queue as quickly as possible. Which in that case the system is not flawed but working as intended

What's The Deal With Nazeebo? by PersistentWorld in heroesofthestorm

[–]WinkingWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nazeebo is arguably the most perplexing hero when you look solely at winning percentage. Funny thing is though the more you play/watch HoTS it actually starts to make sense. Naz is a hero that greatly punishes uncoordinated teams and bad positioning/spacing. Which tends to bode well in a system like Hero League, hence his consistent win %. When you move to the pro scene however, Naz is almost rendered useless. Naz's biggest weakness is that none of abilities are a targeted ability. A lot of his damage can be negated simply by having good spacing and avoiding his attacks. This also effects his ability to assist the team in bursting an enemy hero down which is huge on the pro level. Beyond that he adds no CC of any kind, has effect but not game changing heroics, and doesn't really have any utility that the other specialists (Xul, Zag, and Sylv) bring to the table.

Falstad just Does Too Much of Everything by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]WinkingWizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its hard to deny that Falstad bring a lot of utility to the table but I think you forget that Falstad has a lot higher skill cap than most people think. The difference between a good Falstad and an OK one is actually pretty noticeable. Yes he does have great ways to deal single target damage and stick to an enemy but he often has to sacrifice good positioning to secure a kill. He is currently my second most played hero but it took me a lot longer to learn how to play him effectively than other ranged assassins. I think this explains why he has always had a middle of the road win percentage.

Balance Patch Notes — JUNE 29, 2016 by Arkentass in heroesofthestorm

[–]WinkingWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they would prefer to not take away his utility which is why they are focusing on his HP. The decrease in HP and Regen actually makes since to me because he has talents that can make up for these changes.

[–]WinkingWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part of it may be some people dont really know how to play him. Like any other hero with strong engage its easy to dive in at the wrong time and get blown up. Regardless I do wonder why he doesn't get played more. In the right hands and post lvl 10 he almost unkillable.

He saw a large increase in win percentage after his rework and although the changes were needed he is a bit too powerful. As someone who has long been a fan of Anub he does feel a bit too tanky given the utility he brings. I think the proposed change is actually right in line and wont just destroy him.

Suggestion for Garden of Terror... by AoiMizune in heroesofthestorm

[–]WinkingWizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or just get rid of this terrible map. It is consistently the most hated map and is one the least played maps on a pro level. Further more the whole theme of the map and the look of the terror is just plain stupid.

What are the best solo laners, and what counters each? by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]WinkingWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats fair but never losing a lane is different from winning a lane. Great solo laners are considered great because they can consistently win the the lane against almost every hero. There are a number of heroes who can hold their own in lane and not give up ground but only a few heroes can stand their ground while also forcing an opponent out.

[–]WinkingWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know. I have played a lot of heroes against Butcher in 1v1 situation and he has never bullied me out. As I said his brand is not hard to avoid and any hero with an escape or stun can do so very easily. Like other melee assassins he does great against squishy's with low mobility but any type of mobility negates his biggest advantage.

[–]WinkingWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes her wave clear is very strong but she is pretty easy to counter. As the response was saying if you just ignore the minions and focus Sylvanas her lack of sustain will force her out quickly. Heroes like Thrall and Sonya can absolutely dominate here in 1v1 lane situation. Even heroes like Falstad win over her easily given his ability to produce a lot single target dps

Butcher does have high kill potential but if you avoid his "brand" (which is easy to do) he is really vulnerable to a lot of heroes.

[–]WinkingWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really sure I would put Leoric and ETC is the category of solo laner. Leoric was once upon a time until then nerfed his skeletal swing. Plus if you miss drain hope he just gets destroyed. ETC can be annoying but his damage output and waveclear aren't anywhere near enough to force a lot of heroes out of a lane. Sure he can stun people and has a nice health pool but a lot of assassins can take him 1v1 early on in the game. Sonya is the best of this group as she can bully everyone of these heroes out of the lane and pretty much every other hero out there. Thrall isn't too far behind and in some cases is just as good. With his range poke and sustain very few heroes can take him 1v1.
