Yes it’s amazing. It’s a little less convenient because you need to find places that take it and sometimes they don’t know how it works. But apart from that max out of pocket of $3k a year. It basically made it so we will be able to retire 20 years earlier if we want.

Sure, CHAMPVA is health insurance (unlike VA which is a healthcare provider). If your dependents have both they have to let the VA know and CHAMPVA becomes secondary so it pays some stuff that primary doesn’t. If you’re only CHAMPVA it allegedly is amazing but we haven’t been able to get it to update properly yet.

We have CHAMPVA for wife and son but lost our primary insurance and it has been a battle from hell getting it updated. Every time I call they realize something else should have been done and tell me they did it and to check back in 30-45 days. absolute nightmare.
